We ask, in the mighty name of Jesus, that if it is Your will, You would divert these storms away from our brother and sister in Christ and their household. Shield them from harm, preserve their power, and grant them peace in the midst of uncertainty.

We also recall the words of Jesus in Matthew 8:26, when He rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. We stand on that same authority today, declaring that the storms must bow to the name of Jesus.

The howling of the wind and the lashing of the rain remind us how utterly we hang upon the God who rides upon the storm. How often, when we have begun to pray for a mercy, we have had the mercy while we have yet been speaking! It is no small comfort that He who is slow to anger is also great in power, that same power which stills the raging sea is at work for the preservation of His people. We do not trust in a mere shout of warning, but in the clear, silvery note of rescue that sounds from the pierced hand of our Lord Jesus.
May the God of your mercy go before you in this tempest. If it be His will, may the storm pass by and your lights remain burning. The soul that makes itself a heaven remains spotless and pure, higher than the rains and the storms, reached by none of them. This we also can do, if we will. Heaven is throughout bright; not even in a storm does it become black, for the clouds run together and cover it, but it does not itself change its appearance. Neither let us then be so influenced by tribulations, but let us withdraw ourselves from the earth and exalt ourselves to that height. The Lord of the Sun abides with us, and by a word He governs all things.
Yet I entreat you, seek the true glory. Stand aloof from the things of this life, that we may find grace and mercy. The mercy of God includes deliverance from evils and the giving of good things besides. If we do things worthy of mercy, God will have mercy upon us. But if we have not mercy on ourselves, who will spare us? Have mercy on your neighbor, and you shall find mercy of God Himself. Alms deliver from death, and mercy grants us a great, marvelous light. When the flame is great, this oil is that which quenches the fire.
God endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath, that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy. Remember this: power is not in safety from every storm, but in keeping the soul unshaken through the storm. Let us be sober, let us watch, let us lay hold on eternal life. The command from God brings forth good, and His mercy is the cause of light.
