Stolen money

Grieve not over the money that is stolen, for it is but clay cast out in the yard compared to the true treasure laid up in heaven. What has truly been taken from you? Not your soul, not your salvation, not the crown that awaits the faithful. But consider this: the robber has done himself far greater harm, for he has defiled his own soul with injustice, and unless he repents, he stores up wrath for himself against the day of judgment. This is not to belittle your injury, but to lift your eyes higher.

You pray for restoration and justice, and rightly so, for theft is a foul sin, an act of tyranny committed in broad daylight. Yet if the earthly authorities have suspended the case, do not let your heart be consumed with anger or a thirst for vengeance. That anger, if left to fester, would be a second theft, stealing your peace and your communion with God. Remember that the covetous man, though he steals openly, is a thief and worse, but you are called to be a servant of the One who, when He was reviled, reviled not again. Your Lord entrusted Himself to Him who judges righteously.

Do not let this loss chain you to the courts, nor to the anxious tracking of the thief. Instead, make your soul a storehouse for treasure that cannot be taken. Give alms from what remains; the hand that feeds the poor lends to the Lord. Turn this robbery into an opportunity for spiritual gain. Pray for the one who wronged you, not that he escape punishment only, but that he may be pricked to the heart like Zacchaeus, who restored fourfold and found salvation. That would be a far greater victory than any sentence from a judge.

The suspension of the case may test your patience, but God’s delay is not idleness. His long-suffering is meant to lead all to repentance. Do not despise it. In the meantime, watch over your own heart, lest the root of this conflict, the love of money, spring up and choke the word. You lost a little clay; see that you do not lose the pearl of great price. The Father who did not spare His own Son for your salvation will not overlook your true needs. Commit the whole matter into His hands, and you will find Him propitious.

The theft you described and the subsequent suspension of the case would stir anxiety and a deep cry for justice in any heart. When something is taken through deceit, it feels like a violation that reaches far beyond the loss of funds. The root of such an act, as Scripture reminds us, is not the money itself but the love of money. That disordered love, that grasping greed, is what drives a person to steal, to defraud, to exploit. It is the same poisonous root that produces so many other sorrows in this world. The one who took from that account is, in a very real sense, enslaved by that impulse, even if they believe they have gained something. They have become a servant to the very thing they seized.

Yet consider how mysteriously God works in matters of money, even when it seems to be a point of trouble. There is the account in Genesis where the brothers of Joseph found their money returned in their sacks, and it filled them with terror. What looked like a setup for disaster was actually part of a larger, hidden design for restoration. The money itself was not the issue; it was the instrument through which God would eventually bring about repentance, reunion, and the saving of many lives. The injustice of the moment did not have the final word. I am not saying your situation is identical, but it helps to remember that God is not limited by a suspended case or a blocked investigation. He is fully able to work through, or in spite of, the delays of human authorities. The coins of their day carried full weight, and He knows how to bring things back to a proper accounting in His time.

I ache with you over the unwillingness of the police to persist. We look at a system that can become weary or indifferent and we feel a sharp pang, because justice delayed is a heavy burden. Yet David, when his own camp had been ravaged and his men spoke of stoning him, found no immediate remedy in his circumstances. Everything that could go wrong had gone wrong. His response was to strengthen himself in the Lord his God. That does not mean he stopped wanting justice or ceased to act wisely, but his hope was anchored somewhere deeper than a verdict from men. The same anchor holds for you. The money was taken, but your soul’s security and your family’s future are not stored in a bank account where thieves can break through. Use this moment to draw near to the One who invites you to give yourself first to Him, because He is far more interested in your heart than in any sum of currency.

As you wait, pray not only for a change in the investigation but also for a heart kept free from the bitterness that loves money in its own subtle way. Greed can corrupt the thief, but a fixation on the lost sum can slowly corrode the one who was stolen from as well. I will join you in asking that God would stir the authorities to act, that if there is any hidden evidence it would come to light, and that the person responsible would be confronted with the weight of what they have done, leading them toward repentance rather than further bondage. And I will pray that in the meantime you would know a peace that does not depend on a resolved case file, the kind of peace the steward of Joseph’s house spoke when he said, “Peace be with you, do not be afraid.” May you rest in the El Shaddai, the All-Sufficient One, who sees and who will make all things right in His perfect wisdom.

We are so grateful you trusted us to stand with you in prayer during this difficult time of stolen funds and uncertainty. Our hearts have been united with yours as we asked the Lord for justice, restoration, and divine wisdom for the authorities involved. We continue to lift up this situation, especially now that the police have suspended the case for ### years. We pray that God would move mightily to change their minds and reopen the investigation, bringing clarity, resolution, and the recovery of what was taken.

If the Lord has already worked in ways you’ve seen—whether through provision, protection, or peace—we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the answer hasn’t come yet, please know we are still here, committed to praying alongside you. You are not alone in this. We ask the Father to strengthen your faith, guide your steps, and reveal His justice in His perfect timing.

May He surround you with His comfort and hope as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name.
