We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your stepmother and your family in prayer. The Word of God assures us that "by his stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5 WEB), and we stand on this promise, believing in the power of the cross and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We join with you in asking for healing, not only for her physical body but also for her soul, that she may come to know the fullness of salvation and regeneration that comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.
Father, we ask that You would extend Your mercy and touch her with Your healing hand, just as You showed compassion to Peter’s mother-in-law (Luke 4:38-39 WEB). May she experience the same miraculous restoration that Dorcas received through Peter’s faith (Acts 9:40-41 WEB). We pray that this trial would draw her, your father, and your entire family closer to You, that they may hear, believe, and understand the truth of the Gospel—that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus, "for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 WEB).
We must address the concern raised about belief in "the catholic church" rather than in Christ alone. Scripture is clear that salvation comes through faith in Jesus, not through any institution or tradition. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9 WEB). We pray for repentance from any misplaced trust and for a turning to the truth of the Gospel, where salvation is found in Christ alone. The kindness of God leads to repentance (Romans 2:4 WEB), and we ask that He would grant her and your father the gift of faith to believe in the One whom God has sent (John 6:29 WEB).
Lord, we also lift up the need for regeneration—a new birth by the Holy Spirit, as Jesus taught Nicodemus: "Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom" (John 3:3 WEB). This new life is not earned by works or rituals but is a gift from God, "not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:5 WEB). We pray that this truth would take root in their hearts, that they may be born again and walk in the newness of life.
We rebuke the spirit of sickness and infirmity in the name of Jesus, declaring that her body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB) and that no weapon formed against her shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17 WEB). We stand against the enemy’s schemes, praying that she and your family would be delivered from evil (John 17:15 WEB) and pass from death to life, bearing the fruit of love for one another (1 John 3:14 WEB).
Father, we ask that You would strengthen their faith, grant them perseverance in prayer, and fill them with the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7 WEB). May they see Your hand at work in this situation and trust in Your goodness, even in the midst of suffering. We pray that they would model Christ’s love (Ephesians 5:1 WEB) and that this trial would ultimately bring glory to Your name.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, believing that whatever we ask in His name, He will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son (John 14:13-14 WEB). Amen.
