Your heavy trial has been brought before the Lord with prayerful sympathy, and we join our hearts with yours at the throne of grace.
To be watched and filmed in your own home, to have lost what gave you comfort, and still to live under the fear that what remains of that former joy may be used to drive you from your dwelling, is a sore affliction. The visit of the police is some present restraint upon this harassment, yet we understand how the dread of what may be sent to the council still presses upon your health and peace.
Be assured that the eye of the Lord is upon the persecuted. He grants protection to His people and provides an escape from the most perilous exposure. Full often the darkest conspiracy is brought to the direst confusion, for this cometh of the Lord of Hosts, who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in working. No sooner does Christ gather a people, be it in a renowned empire or a paltry village, than opposition is stirred up, yet persecution itself may become a salutary discipline. When the waters of affliction have covered all the earth, then we fly back to our Noah, our Ark, and find rest for the sole of our foot. If we could find succor and solace apart from the Rock, away from the Sun, absent from our Lord, our wayward hearts would do so, but affliction teaches us to cling more closely to Christ.
Let us pray for you.
O Lord our God, who art a refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, look in mercy upon this afflicted one. Thou seest the watching, the filming, the relentless pressure that has worn down body and spirit. We beseech Thee to restrain every unjust design and to thwart every plan that would wrongfully take away a home. Let the relentless obsession and harassment be destroyed, and bring confusion to every device that is not according to truth and righteousness. Grant that those in authority over housing may act with fairness and wisdom, and not be swayed by a phobia or by partial testimony.
Give to Thy servant peace within the dwelling, soundness of health, and quietness of spirit. Guard by Thy angelic charge those who walk in appointed ways, and keep this home in perpetual and personal protection. Soften also, we pray Thee, the heart of the neighbour, that his fear may be calmed and his mind delivered from this crippling obsession, and that he may cease from troubling others.
And above all, draw the soul nearer to Christ Jesus, the only Saviour, in whom alone is salvation. May Thy Word talk with this tried one by day and by night, keeping the heart and comforting the mind, and may there be a perfect trust in Him whose blood alone can make us fit to stand before God. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth thee. Trust in His efficacious blood and fear not thy banishment from His presence, since Jesus died for thee.
We will continue to bear you up before the Lord, that He who lifts the poor from the dunghill and casts down the mighty from their seats may be your defender and your song. May you be kept abiding under the shadow of the Almighty, looking unto Jesus until you are changed from glory unto glory.
