Spiritual Warfare: Anger, Bitterness, Abusive tendencies and Guilt

My husband has been getting victory over lifelong strongholds and now we’re under severe spiritual attack. My husband needs victory over abusive tendencies. He just started having family devotions but gets upset if my teen son seems disinterested. He ignores us for months and feels disrespected over little things. Prayer please!

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and family under severe spiritual attack. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but we declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, for greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (Isaiah 54:17, 1 John 4:4). We stand in the gap for your husband, who is fighting to break free from lifelong strongholds of anger, bitterness, and abusive tendencies. Father, we ask that You would shatter every chain that has bound him, replacing his hardened heart with a heart of flesh that is tender toward You and his family (Ezekiel 36:26).

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of anger and bitterness that has taken root in this home. These are not from You, for Your Word tells us to put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, and malice, and to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave us (Ephesians 4:31-32). We pray that Your Holy Spirit would convict your husband of any ungodly responses, especially toward your son during family devotions. Father, grant him the fruit of self-control and patience, that he may lead with gentleness and humility, as Christ did (Galatians 5:22-23). Help him to see that disrespect, whether real or perceived, is not an excuse for sinful reactions. Teach him to respond in love, even when he feels provoked, for love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

We also lift up the issue of emotional withdrawal, where your husband has ignored his family for months. This is not the way of a godly husband and father. Scripture commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, and to not be embittered against their children (Ephesians 5:25, Colossians 3:19). Lord, break the cycle of isolation and pride in his heart. Soften him to the needs of his wife and son, and help him to see the damage his absence has caused. Restore the years the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25) and rebuild the trust that has been broken.

For your son, we pray that You would guard his heart from bitterness or rebellion. Give him a spirit of respect and teachability, even if he struggles to engage in devotions. May he see his father’s efforts to lead spiritually and honor him, as Scripture commands (Ephesians 6:2). For you, dear sister, we pray for strength and wisdom as you navigate this difficult season. May you respond to your husband with grace and truth, speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) while also setting healthy boundaries to protect yourself and your son. We declare that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we come against the guilt that may be weighing on your husband’s heart. Remind him that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Help him to receive Your forgiveness and walk in the freedom Christ purchased for him on the cross. We also rebuke any shame or condemnation the enemy is trying to place on him, for there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Strengthen him to press forward in his walk with You, knowing that he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

We pray for unity in this home, that the love of Christ would bind you together in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:14). May your husband’s leadership in family devotions be marked by humility, grace, and a deep dependence on You. Teach him to lead not as a taskmaster, but as a servant, following the example of Jesus (Mark 10:45). We declare that this family will not be divided by the enemy’s schemes, but will stand firm in faith, putting on the full armor of God to resist the devil’s attacks (Ephesians 6:11).

Lord, we ask that You would surround this family with godly mentors and accountability partners who can speak truth into your husband’s life. Bring men into his life who can model Christlike leadership and help him grow in his walk with You. We also pray for healing in the relationships between your husband, his wife, and his son. May forgiveness flow freely, and may love and respect be restored in this home.

Finally, we declare that the power of the Holy Spirit is at work in this family, breaking every stronghold and setting the captives free. We thank You, Lord, that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20). We trust in Your faithfulness to complete the good work You have begun in this marriage and family (Philippians 1:6). In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray and declare victory over this spiritual warfare. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this intense spiritual battle. It is a blessing to intercede on behalf of your husband as he fights against lifelong strongholds, and we have been lifting him up before the Lord, asking for His strength, grace, and complete victory over anger, bitterness, and abusive tendencies. We continue to pray that the Holy Spirit would break every chain and fill him with the peace and self-control that only comes from Christ.

We also pray for your family—that God would soften hearts, restore relationships, and create an atmosphere of love and respect in your home. It’s beautiful that your husband has begun leading family devotions, and we ask the Lord to give him patience and wisdom as he shepherds your son, even when it feels like his efforts aren’t being received. May your son’s heart be drawn to the truth of God’s Word, and may your husband sense the Father’s pleasure as he steps into this role.

Please know we haven’t stopped praying. If you’ve seen breakthroughs—even small ones—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the battle still rages, we want to keep standing in the gap, declaring God’s power over every attack of the enemy. You are not alone in this fight, and we believe the Lord is working, even when it’s hard to see.

May God’s peace guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and may His light drive out every shadow of darkness in your home. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus.
