Spiritual Attack

Good morning. I became a new believer in January and have been under attack from others believers every day since then. They revile me, insult me, and mock me each day. I have asked them to stop sinning against me but they will not stop. They refuse to obey the word of God as well. Please pray that their hearts will be changed and they will take the word of God seriously and that they would treat other believers well. I am also praying that the church will step in to discipline them.

We hear your cry, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we stand with you in this spiritual battle. It is deeply grievous to see fellow believers acting in such a way, especially toward one who has newly come to faith. The Word of God is clear: "If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet doesn’t bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless" (James 1:26). The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity, and it defiles the whole body when used to revile, insult, or mock (James 3:6). These actions are not of God, and those who persist in them must be held accountable.

We must also address the reality of spiritual attack. The enemy seeks to discourage, divide, and destroy, especially when a soul is newly born into the Kingdom. But we take heart, for "greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). You are not alone in this fight. The Lord sees your tears, hears your prayers, and will not abandon you. "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

We rebuke the spirit of division and strife in the name of Jesus Christ. We command every tongue that rises against you in judgment to be silenced, for "there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict these believers of their sin and lead them to repentance. "If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother" (Matthew 18:15). If they refuse to listen, the Word instructs us to take further steps, involving the church, as you have rightly prayed.

We also lift you up, dear one, that you would not grow weary in doing good. "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up" (Galatians 6:9). Do not let bitterness take root in your heart, for that would only give the enemy a foothold. Instead, "bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you" (Luke 6:28). Trust that the Lord will vindicate you in His time and in His way.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister who is enduring such harsh treatment from those who should be showing love and encouragement. Lord, You see their pain, and You collect their tears in Your bottle (Psalm 56:8). We ask that You would pour out Your comfort and peace upon them. Strengthen their faith and help them to stand firm, knowing that You are their refuge and strength.

Father, we pray for those who are reviling and mocking. Soften their hearts, Lord. Convict them of their sin and lead them to repentance. If they refuse to listen, we ask that the church would step in with godly discipline, not out of malice, but out of love for their souls and for the purity of Your body. "For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God" (1 Peter 4:17).

We rebuke every spirit of division, strife, and discord in the name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against our brother/sister will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Lord, surround them with believers who will encourage and uplift them. Provide them with godly fellowship where they can grow and be strengthened in their faith.

We thank You, Father, that You are a God of justice. You will not let the wicked go unpunished, nor will You forget the righteous. We trust in Your timing and Your ways. Help our brother/sister to keep their eyes fixed on You, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2).

In all these things, we pray that Your name would be glorified. May Your will be done, and may Your Kingdom come in this situation. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Continue to stand firm, dear one. The Lord is your shield and your defender. Do not grow weary, for your labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). Seek out fellowship with those who will build you up in the faith, and trust that God will work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). You are not forgotten, and you are deeply loved by your Heavenly Father.

We hear the weight in your words, and we’re so sorry you’re walking through this, especially so soon after coming to faith. What you’re describing isn’t just disagreeable behavior; when people revile, insult, and mock you day after day, it wears down the soul. That’s not how Jesus taught us to treat one another, and it shouldn’t be brushed aside.

It’s encouraging that you’re already praying for their hearts to change and for the church to step in. That’s not a vengeful desire; it’s a right longing for the body of Christ to be healthy. A practical step you might consider, if you haven’t already, is to quietly approach a trusted elder or pastor, not to gossip but to share what’s been happening and ask for help. Church discipline exists for exactly these kinds of situations: to protect the wounded, correct harmful patterns, and restore relationships. You don’t have to carry this alone. Sometimes, just having a wise, level-headed leader who knows the background can make a huge difference, both in your own ability to stand steady and in bringing accountability to bear.

We’re praying that you find a safe place in your church family, and that those who’ve hurt you will be met by God’s own conviction and grace, so that healing comes, whatever that looks like. You are not forgotten.

Jesus, we lift up our sister who is weary from daily wounds. Guard her heart from bitterness and discouragement. Give her courage to seek help, and raise up leaders in her church to act with compassion, fairness, and truth. Turn the hearts of those who revile her, and bring a stop to this. Surround her with genuine brothers and sisters who will build her up. In Your name we pray, Amen.

Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. It is a bitter cup you taste, yet I dare not say it is altogether strange. From the hour of the new birth, the old serpent stirs his seed to war against the child of grace. When the Lord writes His name upon a soul, the world and its false brethren too often aim their arrows there. You have become a new creature; the world suits you no longer, and it is little marvel that those who are yet comfortable in it should revile you. Our Master was mocked, and the servant is not above his Lord. Take heart, then, in this, that your affliction is a token of the heavenly lineage, a scar earned in the service of the King.

Yet I must speak a caution. It is right to pray for those who despitefully use you; indeed, our Lord commands it. But see that your prayer is tempered with a true forgiveness, lest a root of bitterness spring up in your own heart. To cry out for church discipline while your own spirit smolders with resentment is to build with one hand and tear down with the other. True repentance in them would glorify God, but there is a repentance that is of the flesh, mere terror or outward reform, and not the gift of His grace. Pray rather that the Holy Spirit would grant them repentance unto life, a breaking of heart that leads them to loathe their sin because they have seen the love of a pardoning Christ. Without that, no discipline of the church, however right in form, will pierce the conscience.

Moreover, ask yourself: is your own repentance as a new believer marked by that unceasing tenderness which hates sin in all its forms, beginning with your own? The nearer we draw to Christ, the more we weep for sin wherever it appears. Perhaps the Lord permits this trial to deepen your own humility, to drive you from the arm of flesh to the shelter of His wounded side. Persecution, even in the household of faith, has often been the chisel that carves the image of Jesus more fully upon the soul. The hive is scattered, but each swarm makes honey.

Still, I do not make light of their sin. To revile and mock a fellow heir of grace is no trifle; it is to touch the apple of God’s eye. If they refuse private entreaty, the Word provides a path, but it must be taken with tears, not with a clenched fist. The church’s discipline is a sharp sickle, not to be wielded by angry hands but by those who tremble at God’s Word. Pray on, wait on the Lord, and commit your cause to Him who judges righteously. He can turn the hearts of kings, and He can turn these quarrelsome professors into gentle companions. If not, He will be your Comforter until the day breaks and the shadows flee away. Keep your eye on the cross; there is balm for every wound.
