Spirit of blindness and fornication adultery

Anonymous

Beloved of All
My brother is having an affair and he is blinded by lust, he’s been with his wife for ### years he is having an affair his wife is having a hard time. Please pray so this stops immediately and he goes back to his wife . Please rebuke the spirit of lust and adultery. In Jesus name I pray amen

We stand with you in prayer over your brother and his wife and we share your grief over this sin that is tearing at a holy covenant. We hear your cry for his eyes to be opened and for this adultery to stop immediately and we join you in asking God for conviction, repentance and restoration.

God established marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and He calls it honorable and undefiled. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Matthew 19:6. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Hebrews 13:4. Your brother's affair is not a mistake or a simple failing, it is adultery, it is sexual immorality outside the marriage bed, and Scripture is clear that he who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul, Proverbs 6:32. We must call it what God calls it so that repentance can be real.

You rightly discerned a spirit of blindness and lust at work. Lust conceives sin and sin brings forth death when it is allowed to remain, as James 1:14-15 teaches, and the enemy blinds minds to keep a person from seeing the destruction he is causing. In whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them, 2 Corinthians 4:4. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. Your brother is sinning against God, against his own body and soul, against his wife and against his family, and he is blinded to the pain he is causing his wife who is now suffering deeply.

We rebuke together in the name of Jesus Christ the spirit of lust, fornication and adultery that has taken hold of your brother. We command that deceiving and blinding influence to be broken and we ask the Holy Spirit to bring piercing conviction and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7. We pray that your brother will submit himself to God, resist this temptation, cut off all contact with the other person completely and flee from this immorality without delay or excuse.

We lift up his wife to the Lord who sees her tears and knows her hard time. We pray that God will be near to her as the One who is close to the brokenhearted and that He will surround her with comfort, strength and godly counsel. We pray that your brother will remember his vows and obey the command, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it, Ephesians 5:25. That love is sacrificial, faithful and exclusive.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace for this brother and his marriage. Lord, open his eyes and remove the blindness of lust that has deceived him. Convict his heart deeply of his adultery and grant him no peace until he repents. Cause him to hate this sin as You hate it and to turn from it completely. Forgive him as he confesses, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. Lord, break every ungodly tie and end this affair immediately. Turn his heart fully back to his wife and to You. Heal the wounds in his wife's heart, comfort her, give her wisdom and protect her from bitterness. Restore what the enemy has tried to destroy and rebuild this marriage on truth, faithfulness and Your Word. Give this family member who is interceding boldness to speak the truth in love and perseverance to keep praying. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and our access to You, amen.

We encourage you to continue to intercede faithfully and to urge your brother in love to seek immediate pastoral counsel and accountability, to end all contact with the other woman and to pursue repentance and reconciliation with his wife. God is able to forgive and to restore when there is genuine repentance, and we pray with you that he will choose life and obedience and return to his wife and to the covenant he made before God.

We appreciate you standing in the gap for your brother and his wife. It is painful to watch someone you love make choices that wound his marriage, and to see his wife carry that hurt after many years together. Your desire for this to stop and for healing to come is understandable.

We hear how heavy this is for his wife right now. Betrayal leaves a deep ache and shakes trust, and she will need steady, safe support beyond just one conversation. The kindest thing you can do is stay a calm, prayerful presence for both of them without trying to carry the whole outcome yourself. Continue to pray for clarity for your brother, for strength for his wife, and for wisdom for yourself in how to love them well.

If you have opportunity, gently encourage your brother to talk honestly with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor, and encourage his wife to have her own support as well, someone she can talk to regularly. You do not have to confront or fix this alone, and having wise help alongside you matters.

Father, we lift this brother, his wife, and the one praying for them to You. Bring conviction where it is needed, open eyes that have been clouded, and guard this marriage. Comfort this wife in her pain, give her strength and wise counsel around her, and guide this brother toward repentance and truth. Give our friend wisdom, patience and grace as he loves them both. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your intercession for your brother and his wife has been heard and we join you in prayer before the Lord with a heavy yet hopeful heart.

We grieve with you over this wound in a marriage covenant which God ordained to be the lifelong union of one man and one woman, where alone such intimacy belongs. To forsake that covenant for the lust of the flesh is not a small thing, for as Scripture teaches and as David confessed after his own adultery, it is sin committed in the very sight of God, and against Him above all have we sinned. There is a blindness that comes with such sin, a deceitfulness of lust that hardens the heart and calls evil good for a season.

We will pray as you have asked, that the Lord would rebuke this sin and break its power, that this adulterous entanglement would be brought to an immediate end, and that your brother would be turned again to the wife of his covenant. Yet we pray not only for an outward stopping, but for that inward work which alone will make the stopping holy and lasting.

There is a repentance that is only of the flesh, wrought by judgment or fear or shame, and it does not give God glory nor does it endure. True repentance is quite another thing. It is repentance unto life, the gift of God, preached in the name of Jesus Christ, in whom alone there is remission of sins. It is a broken spirit and a contrite heart which God will not despise. It yields works meet for repentance, it is practical and it lasts, because it flows from seeing the goodness of God who died for us and from love to Christ who has pardoned us. The goodness of God leads men to repentance, not merely the whip of consequences, and we pray that goodness may now draw your brother.

We pray that the Holy Spirit would grant him such a godly sorrow for sin that he would abhor what he now embraces, that he would look out of self to Christ and to Christ only for mercy, and that being restored as Peter was restored when the Lord looked upon him, he might weep bitterly and then be strengthened to walk anew in faithfulness. The same Lord who can chasten the soul after impurity can give back more than former purity and make the heart to loathe even the thought of sin.

Let us pray together.

O most holy and merciful Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whom alone is salvation and forgiveness, we bring before You this husband who has wandered, and this wife who is wounded, and this whole household that is shaken. Lord, open blinded eyes. Convict of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. Grant unto this man the gift of true repentance, that he may turn from adultery and lust with a broken and contrite heart, and find full and free remission in the blood of Christ. In Your goodness, lead him to repentance. Sever the cords of this unholy alliance and set his feet upon the path of fidelity. Heal, we beseech You, the heart of his wife, comfort her in her hard trial, guard her from bitterness, and sustain her by Your grace. Restore this marriage, we pray, that it may again reflect Your covenant faithfulness, and let all that is done give glory to You. Amen.

Continue to plead for him, and encourage both husband and wife to seek the counsel and care of faithful pastors in the local church, that practical repentance may be nurtured and this covenant preserved.
