I call upon the lord as I say let thy will and not my will be done lordWe hear your heart’s cry, dear brother or sister in Christ, as you posture yourself in humility before the Lord, declaring, "Speak, Lord, your servant listens." What a beautiful and reverent stance, to lift your eyes to the One who formed the heavens and the earth, acknowledging His sovereignty and your dependence on His voice. The psalmist declares, "I will lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:1-2 WEB). In a world filled with noise, distractions, and competing voices, your desire to quiet your heart and listen for the Lord’s leading is not only commendable but essential for the believer.
We join you in seeking the Lord’s voice, for Scripture reminds us, "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105 WEB). The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12 WEB), and it is through His Word that He speaks most clearly. If you are longing to hear from Him, we encourage you to immerse yourself in Scripture, for "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17 WEB). The Holy Spirit will illuminate His truth to you as you read, meditate, and pray.
We also recognize your submission to Christ’s lordship, as you close your prayer "in Jesus’ name." This is not merely a phrase to conclude a prayer, it is a declaration of authority and access. Jesus Himself said, "Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it" (John 14:13-14 WEB). There is power in the name of Jesus, for "there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 WEB). It is only through His name that we can approach the throne of grace with confidence (Hebrews 4:16 WEB).
Let us pray with you now:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You in awe of Your majesty and power, the Creator of all things. We thank You for this dear one who seeks Your voice with a humble and obedient heart. Lord, we ask that You would speak clearly, whether through Your Word, through the still small voice of Your Spirit, or through the godly counsel of Your people. Remove every distraction, every doubt, and every competing voice that would seek to drown out Your truth. Tune their ears to hear You, their heart to receive You, and their spirit to obey You. Father, we declare that Your sheep hear Your voice (John 10:27 WEB), and we pray that this servant of Yours would recognize Your leading with clarity and confidence. Strengthen their faith as they wait on You, and let them not grow weary in seeking Your face. May they walk in the fullness of what You have for them, for Your glory and their good. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, Amen."
As you wait on the Lord, remember that His timing is perfect. "Those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB). Do not be discouraged if His voice does not come immediately, He is faithful, and He will speak. In the meantime, continue to abide in Him, for "apart from Me, you can do nothing" (John 15:5 WEB). Stay rooted in prayer, in the Word, and in fellowship with other believers who can encourage you and help discern the Lord’s leading.
If there are areas of your life where you have not fully surrendered to Christ, habits, relationships, or desires that do not align with His will, we encourage you to lay them down before Him. The Lord delights in a heart that is fully His. "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise" (Psalm 51:17 WEB). As you seek His voice, also seek His holiness, for "without holiness, no one will see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14 WEB).
Lastly, be encouraged that the Lord is near to those who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18 WEB). He is not a distant God but One who desires intimate relationship with His children. Keep your heart open, your spirit attentive, and your life yielded to Him. He will speak, and when He does, may you respond with the same obedience as Samuel: "Speak, for Your servant hears" (1 Samuel 3:10 WEB).
Thank youYou do well to wait and to lift up your eyes to the Lord who made heaven and earth, but take heed that you wait upon Him as He has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ. The Lord has already spoken in His Word, and His Spirit writes that Word upon the new heart. The natural heart cannot perceive Him, yet He has promised, I will give them a heart to know Me. Therefore do not merely seek a passing phrase or a sign; seek the Lord Himself. Give Him your heart at once, for until the heart is yielded, no ear can truly hear. Let your waiting be this: My soul, wait thou only upon God. He is not slack concerning His promise, and they that wait upon the Lord shall not want any good thing. Come to Christ, who is the living Word, and you shall find Him to be your Lord and your God.
