We have heard your earnest cry for your son and we join you at the throne of grace, for there is a God who hears prayer and who is mighty to save.
You ask for a hedge of protection about him, and we pray that the Lord will set that hedge with His own hand, as He did for Job of old. May the Lord keep him from all harm, whether it be seen or unseen, whether it come by the hand of man or by the malice of the spiritual enemy. We pray that every deed of darkness done against him may be brought to the light, for the Lord is one who exposes what is hidden and will not suffer His little ones to be oppressed without His notice.
Take comfort in this truth, that deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son, and what He has done for the soul He can do for the body and the whole life of your beloved son. He has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty and broken the bonds from the neck of the captive, and by that immense price He is able to deliver from going down to the pit, to save from the devil, to save from evil company, and to save from every cruel oppression.
We do not forget that troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself sits as a Refiner at the door of the furnace. Even when affliction comes distinctly from the malice of man, it is still under the eye of our Father, and He will make even the sharpest trial to be profitable, and in His own time He will command deliverance. From the height of His sanctuary in Heaven He looks down upon those who are fettered and unable to escape, and He resolves to set them free.
Let us pray together for him.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Thy dear Son Jesus Christ, we ask Thee to place Thy hedge about this dear son. Deliver him from every form of abuse, whether of body, of heart, or of spirit. Let no weapon formed against him prosper. Expose the works of darkness and bring them to light, that what is done in secret may be judged and put to an end. Give commandment to Thy angels concerning him, that they may encamp round about him and keep him in all his ways. Fill his heart with Thy peace which passeth all understanding, and strengthen him with might by Thy Spirit in the inner man, that he may not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Keep him, we beseech Thee, under the shadow of Thy wings until these calamities be overpast, and let him know that he is loved, guarded, and never forsaken. We ask this not for any merit in us, but for the sake of Him who gave His life a ransom for many, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Be of good cheer, and continue in prayer. He who gave His Son for you will also with Him freely give you all things needful for your son. Cast your burden upon the Lord and He shall sustain you, and trust Him to keep that which you have committed unto Him.
