Your earnest prayer for your son is most fitting and precious in the sight of God, for a parent's supplication for a child is a holy instinct which the Lord Himself has planted. He who showed us the father of the prodigal, who had compassion on his returning son and fell upon his neck and kissed him much to make him sure that love was real, is the same Father who hears you now with no icy eye and no anger in His heart toward those who come to Him through the blood of His Son.
We join our hearts with yours and bring your son before the throne of grace. We pray that the Lord will surround him as with a shield and cover him with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, that fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness which cleanses from all sin. May that blood be his plea and his protection, for there is power in it to forgive and to keep, and the Father, having seen His Son suffer even unto death, delights to remember that sacrifice on behalf of His people.
We ask that the Lord will station His holy angels around him to keep him in all his ways, according to the promise that the angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him and delivereth them. May the Lord guard his heart and his mind and his body from the schemes of the enemy who seeks to steal and to kill and to destroy. That enemy is cunning and cruel, yet the Holy Spirit is almighty, and He is able to keep His own from sin. To be kept from sin is to be kept from many evils, for sin hardens the conscience and stains the character, and we pray that your son may be preserved from it, whether by the gentle restraint of grace or by such providences as turn his feet from danger.
We pray also that no weapon formed against him shall prosper, and that he may walk in the safety of the divine presence day by day. Is anything too hard for the Lord, who is Jehovah and has within Himself sufficiency for all His will. He who willed and it was done, who borrows nothing from legions of angels to accomplish His purposes, is able to make a way of safety where no way appears. He can break up the rock and keep the seed, He can preserve in the dark as well as in the light, and He will not suffer the soul that trusts Him to be put to shame.
Continue to pray for him and to cast him upon the covenant mercy of God in Christ Jesus, training him in the way he should go and trusting the Lord to keep him. May you have the joy to see him kept by the power of God through faith, preserved in body and soul, abiding under the shadow of the Almighty and walking in holiness and peace before Him all his days. We commend him to Him who is able to keep him from falling, beseeching the Lord to guard him from all harm and danger and to cause him to dwell in safety under the covering of His wings, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
