Beloved of All
Your prayer for your son rises from a love that echoes something very deep in the heart of God. The same Father who gave His only Son for us knows what it is to watch over a beloved child in a world where darkness tries to press in. When Abraham walked up the mountain with Isaac, he trusted that the Lord would provide. And He did, ultimately in the giving of Jesus Christ. So take comfort: the God who did not spare His own Son will be faithful to care for yours.
You asked for a hedge of protection and for every hidden work of darkness to be brought into the light. That is exactly what the light does. It shines and the darkness cannot put it out. There is no place so dark that His light cannot penetrate and expose it. No abuse, no deceit, no secret thing escapes His sight. The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses from all sin, and that cleansing covers not just guilt but breaks the power of whatever would harm. Those who walk in the light have fellowship with the Father, and in Him is no darkness at all.
More than physical safety, the greatest assurance you can have is that your son comes to know and possess the Son of God. He who has the Son has life. Everything else is secondary. The peace and strength you seek for him flow from that union. When a person belongs to Christ, darkness may threaten, but it cannot extinguish the life that is hidden in Him. God’s angels do surround those who fear Him, but even more, the Spirit of His Son is given to our hearts, crying out to the Father. That is a deeper anchor than any earthly protection.
So continue to cry out for your son, but let your prayer be widened: not only that he be kept from evil, but that he might walk in the light as a true child of God. The world offers many enticements that seem bright but are actually darkness. If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in darkness, we deceive ourselves. Pray that your son would hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and not be drawn away by the voices of the world. The chastening of the Lord, too, is a sign of sonship; He corrects those He loves. Should trials come, they are not evidence of His absence but the refining of a son.
Cast all this anxiety onto the One who called His Son out of Egypt. He hears a mother’s cry. He saw Ishmael in the wilderness and opened Hagar’s eyes to a well of water; how much more will He watch over the child of promise. The name Isaac meant laughter, a reminder that God’s promises often come in ways that confound human logic. So pray with confidence, knowing that the Son of God has already overcome the world, and light always has the final word. No deed of darkness will remain hidden, and no scheme formed against your son will prosper if he takes refuge in Christ.
