He has delivered us from the power of darkness. This is the sure ground of hope for your son, for the powers of darkness are not broken by our striving but by the outstretched hand of Jehovah alone. In that darkness, the enemy would work his cruel designs, yet it is the very nature of our Lord to expose the deeds of darkness and bring them to light. The brow of brass may grow bold in shadow, but when the Sun of Righteousness rises, every hidden thing is revealed and put to flight.
In your prayer, you have done what the Apostles did when they felt a duty beyond their strength, you have breathed a prayer for more strength. And now, look to Him who is the mainspring of all Christian graces. If a hedge is to be set about your son, it must be the Lord's own hedge; if deliverance is to come, it must be by free grace and divine power alone. You cannot weave the hedge nor man the watchtower, but He who divided the Red Sea and drowned Pharaoh's hosts can surely surround this child with His angels and fill him with peace and strength. The cruel archers of abuse, whether of body, soul, or spirit, worry and wound, but the Lord has songs of deliverance for those who trust Him.
Yet take heed: there is a false peace, a stupefying calm that lulls the soul while the strong man armed keeps his goods. Pray not only for outward protection but for the true peace that passes understanding, the peace that keeps the heart and mind through Christ Jesus. This peace is a present possession, enjoyed even by thronging duties pressed, and it comes by doing the will of Jesus. It whispers within because the blood of Jesus silences the accuser and calms the storm. Let your son be brought to know this peace for himself, for if he walks in the light as He is in the light, no darkness can overcome him.
Should you feel your own faith falter under the weight of this trial, remember that the glory of our strength lies not in our own grip but in God who gives it. It is no shame to tremble; it is an invitation to ask for increased faith. Draw back, take a breath, ask for strength, and then in the name of Him who will surely bear you over, take your leap and succeed. The battle raging around your son is not new; it has raged since Golgotha, where our Lord fought with the powers of darkness and overcame. Light sprang out of that darkness, the eternal Light of the undying Son of God, and that same Light now scatters the darkness of evil for all who are hidden in Him.
Therefore, be not content merely to pray and wait. If your son is in darkness, the command of Christ is, "Show yourselves; rise, and come out of the darkness." Let the deeds of darkness be renounced, let the light of truth be embraced, and let him walk as a child of the day. In this, there is health and strength, for at the Lord's deliverance, there is not one feeble person among His tribes. He gives power to the faint, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Trust in the Lord's name, rehearse His mighty acts, and look for the sanitary miracle of His grace to restore and fortify your son's soul. The work is not yours to finish, but His; rest in His faithful keeping, but rise to follow His leading, for the peace of God will garrison your heart and his, until the day breaks and the shadows flee away.
