Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this heavy burden forward. The pain of watching your son and the parent of your grandchild live in constant hostility, with hatred and animosity filling their home every day, is deep, and the fear that someone could be physically hurt, especially with a young child present, is very real. God sees this household and He cares for each person in it, including your grandchild.
Scripture shows that our most basic need is to be in a right relationship with God Himself. He has made a way for us to come to Him not through ritual or trying hard to be good, but through the blood of Jesus Christ who made atonement for sin. Sin separates us from God, and when that vertical relationship is out of order, every horizontal relationship suffers. That is why the first commandments deal with loving God with all our heart, because unless that relationship is right, our relationships with one another cannot be right. You can trace troubled relationships back to a troubled walk with God.
God does not want a distant legal relationship with us. He wants a loving, intimate relationship as a Father with His children. Through faith in Jesus we are born again by the Spirit and adopted into His family, so that we can come to Him as our Father. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, inviting us into that closeness. When we know how much He loves us and we love Him in return, that love begins to change us from the inside.
What you are describing, the hate and destruction in that home, is fruit of hearts that are not at peace with God. Love, patience, kindness and self control are not produced by trying harder in our own strength. They are the natural fruit of abiding in Christ. When a person is made alive in Christ and walks with Him in the Spirit, those qualities begin to grow as a consequence of that relationship.
So my prayer for your son, for his partner, and for your grandson is first for their relationship with God. I pray that each of them would come to know Jesus Christ as Savior, to receive forgiveness through His blood, and to be brought into the family of God as beloved children. I pray that any sin that has separated them from God would be confessed and forsaken, and that they would experience the new life that comes from being born again.
I do not ask God to bless a living arrangement that is outside His design, for God has shown us that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and that sexual union and sharing a home in that way belong within that covenant. True rightness will not come by simply making a toxic situation feel a little more peaceful while remaining outside His will. Rightness comes when each heart is surrendered to Christ and then walks in obedience to His Word. If that vertical axis is made right, every other relationship, including how they treat one another, how they steward their possessions, how they handle anger, and how they care for their child, can begin to come into proper balance. If that relationship with God remains wrong, no amount of working only on the horizontal conflict will bring lasting peace.
I pray also for protection and wisdom right now. Where there is abuse and the threat of physical harm, love does not look away. Please encourage them to seek safe and godly help immediately, with pastors and counselors who hold to Scripture, and if there is danger, to involve appropriate help to protect the child and each adult. Hate rendered for hate only deepens the wound. God calls us not to return evil for evil but to walk in compassion and courtesy, and that is only possible when Christ is changing the heart.
May the Lord draw each of them to Himself, heal what sin has broken, and guide every next step toward what is holy and right in His eyes. May He place a hedge of protection around your grandson and give you wisdom as you love and intercede for your family. We join you in asking the Father, in the name of Jesus, to bring conviction, repentance, healing, and a new foundation built on knowing Him.
