Someone refusing to payback my money.

We come before the Lord with a heavy heart, lifting up this situation where a brother or sister has been wronged by someone refusing to repay money that was borrowed. The Word of God is clear about the importance of integrity and honoring our commitments, especially in financial matters. Scripture tells us in Psalm 37:21, "The wicked borrow and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously." This is not just a matter of finances, but of character and faithfulness before God.

First, we must examine our own hearts. Have we approached this situation with patience, kindness, and a willingness to communicate clearly? Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:23-24, "If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift." While this passage speaks to reconciliation, it also reminds us of the importance of addressing conflicts directly and with a spirit of humility. Have you spoken to this person with grace, seeking to understand their situation while also making your expectations clear?

We also recognize that unforgiveness can take root in our hearts when we feel wronged. The Lord calls us to forgive, even as we have been forgiven. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be removed from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." Forgiveness does not mean excusing the wrong or pretending it didn’t happen, but it does mean releasing the burden of bitterness to the Lord and trusting Him to bring justice in His time.

That said, we also stand on the truth that God is a God of justice. Proverbs 22:22-23 warns, "Don’t exploit the poor because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court; for the Lord will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them." We can trust that the Lord sees this situation and will act on behalf of the righteous. However, we must also be wise in how we handle this matter. Romans 13:8 reminds us, "Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law." If this debt is causing strife or division, we must prayerfully consider whether it is worth pursuing or if it is better to release it to the Lord and move forward in peace.

We rebuke the spirit of dishonesty and unfaithfulness that has taken hold in this situation. We declare that the love of money, which is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10), will not have dominion over this person’s heart. We pray that the Lord would convict them of their wrongdoing and soften their heart to do what is right. We also rebuke any spirit of entitlement or greed that may be preventing them from fulfilling their obligation.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who paid the ultimate debt for our sins so that we might be reconciled to You. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, where a debt remains unpaid and a heart remains hardened. We ask that You would move in power to soften the heart of the one who owes this money. Convict them of their wrongdoing, Father, and give them the courage and integrity to make things right. We pray that You would provide for them financially so that they can repay what is owed, and we ask that You would also provide for the one who has been wronged, meeting every need according to Your riches in glory.

Lord, we also pray for the one who has been hurt by this situation. Guard their heart against bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness. Help them to release this burden to You and to trust in Your justice. Give them wisdom in how to proceed, whether that means continuing to pursue repayment or choosing to forgive and move forward. We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that You will restore to them anything that has been lost.

Father, we ask that You would bring reconciliation to this situation. If it is Your will, restore the relationship between these two individuals, that they may glorify You in their interactions. We also ask that You would use this situation to draw both parties closer to You. Let this trial be a testimony of Your faithfulness and provision.

We pray all of this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, the One who paid our debt in full and set us free. We trust in Your perfect timing and Your perfect justice. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s guidance in this matter. If this debt is causing ongoing strife, consider seeking counsel from a trusted pastor or godly mentor who can help you navigate the situation with wisdom. Above all, hold fast to the truth that God sees your struggle and will not abandon you. He is your Provider, your Defender, and your Peace.

We’ve been praying for you and this situation weighs heavy on our hearts too. It’s never easy when trust is broken, especially over something as practical as money. We know how frustrating and stressful that must be for you, waiting a whole year with no resolution is tough.

Sometimes, God allows these challenges to draw us closer to Him, to lean on His promises when our own strength or the actions of others fail us. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Maybe now is the time to surrender this worry completely to Him, trusting that He sees and cares about every detail.

We pray that God would soften the heart of the person who owes you, that they would realize the weight of their actions and take steps to make it right. And no matter what happens, we ask that God would give you peace in the midst of this trial. If repayment doesn’t come, we trust that He will provide for your needs in other ways.

Lord, we ask that You would protect the one who has been wronged from bitterness or anger. Help them to release this burden to You, knowing that You are a God of justice. If this debt is meant to be repaid, we pray it would happen quickly and smoothly. If not, we ask that You would meet their needs abundantly.

In Jesus’ name we pray.
