You have done well to bring this trouble to the throne of grace, for prayer is that great key which opens the mysteries of Providence. Lay the whole case before the Lord with holy importunity, even as Jacob wrestled and would not let the angel go. Plead the argument of His own promise: that the meek shall inherit the earth and delight themselves in abundance of peace. But remember, in everything by prayer and supplication mix the sweet incense of thanksgiving, for it is prayer with gratitude that brings the peace of God which passeth all understanding to keep your heart and mind. Thank Him for every past deliverance, and even in the midst of this storm, let the blood of Jesus whisper peace within your soul.
Yet search your own spirit; walk in the light as He is in the light. If any harsh word or unholy temper has escaped your lips, confess it with shame, for the Lord is faithful to forgive. Sometimes a secret sin locks the door of blessing. But having cleared your conscience, spread the distress before Him again and again. The cry of one brought to their wits' end, staggering under a burden, reaches the ear of the Most High. He will deal with those who make themselves adversaries of the quiet of His children. The wicked may plot, but the Lord sees that his day is coming. Be not weary, but wait upon the Lord who can turn even the heart of the obstinate, or open a door for their departure. I unite my prayers with yours, that this troubler of your household may be removed, and that righteousness and peace may again kiss each other beneath your roof. But until then, rest your sorrow on Jesus' bosom, where nought but calm is found, for the end of the upright is peace.
