Silent requests

We come before the throne of grace with hearts open to the leading of the Holy Spirit, lifting up these silent requests before our Heavenly Father. While the specifics may not be spoken aloud, we know that God hears the unuttered cries of our hearts, for He tells us in Psalm 38:9, "Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you."
First and foremost, we want to acknowledge the power and necessity of coming to God in the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name by which we can be saved, as Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" It is only through faith in Jesus Christ, His death on the cross for our sins, and His resurrection that we have access to the Father. If there is anyone reading this who has not yet surrendered their life to Jesus, we pray that the Holy Spirit would draw them to repentance and faith in Christ. Romans 10:9-10 tells us, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
For these silent requests, we pray that God would move mightily in each situation. We know that our God is a God who sees, who hears, and who acts on behalf of His children. In Exodus 3:7, the Lord said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows." Just as God saw the suffering of the Israelites, He sees the burdens you carry today.
If these silent requests involve struggles with sin, we rebuke the enemy and claim the victory we have in Christ. 1 John 1:9 assures us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." We pray for strength to resist temptation and for a heart that seeks after God’s righteousness.
If these requests pertain to relationships, we pray that God would guide each person according to His will. We uphold the sanctity of marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman, as God designed from the beginning (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If there is any ungodly relationship, whether it involves fornication, adultery, or same-sex unions, we pray for conviction, repentance, and restoration according to God’s Word. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 warns us, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."
For those seeking a spouse, we pray that God would prepare godly men and women to come together in Christ-centered marriages. Proverbs 18:22 tells us, "Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the Lord." We pray for patience, wisdom, and discernment in courtship, that each person would seek a partner who loves the Lord and desires to honor Him in all things.
If these silent requests involve healing, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, we stand on the promise of Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord." We pray for God’s healing touch and for faith to trust in His perfect timing.
For those facing financial struggles, we pray for provision according to God’s riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We ask that He would open doors of opportunity and give wisdom in managing resources.
For those battling fear, anxiety, or depression, we pray for the peace of God that surpasses all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). We rebuke the spirit of fear and declare that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7).
For those who feel alone or abandoned, we pray that they would know the nearness of God. Psalm 34:18 assures us, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."

The soul's silent cry ascends as surely as the smoke from the altar of incense. You have offered a prayer wrapped in mystery before the throne, and the Lord who sees in secret understands its every syllable. Brief, silent prayer is a dart hurled heavenward; it is the arrow of the heart shot in the twinkling of an eye, yet it reaches the ear of the Lord of Hosts. In the innermost shrine of your spirit, in the Holy of Holies of your own secret soul, you have spoken to God, and that is well pleasing in His sight. This method of praying without voice or outward sign is the mark of a child who knows the Father is ever near. Many times in a day may we thus speak with the Lord our God, for the spirit of prayer is a plentiful mother, and she suggests petitions by all sorts of surroundings.
Yet know this: the power of your plea rests not in the silence itself, but in the arm upon which you lean. Faith is the victory. Trust Jesus Christ just as you are, without those feelings you have supposed to be necessary. Your immediate business is to trust Him. Do not look for conversion first, but expect it as the result of faith. If you have substituted even your most earnest prayers for closing in with Christ, beware. He that has faith has renounced his own righteousness; if you place even a particle of reliance upon anything else but what Christ did, you have no faith. Your silent requests are precious because they are directed to Him. To trust your prayers would be to go back to the old beggarly elements; to trust your Saviour is to rest upon the Rock of Ages. Continue to trust Him, for the longer your faith is tried, the heavier and more precious the freight it brings home.
And when your soul finds itself in trouble, betake yourself to more of this same silent praying. Little faith knows where her strength lies. When Peter began to sink, he did not deliberate; his soul darted a prayer: “Lord, save me.” O Little Faith, you are great at pleading! Your very weakness drives you more often to your knees. Never cease your prayers, for no time is a bad time for prayer. Grow more earnest, let your faith be more resolved, and your cry more vehement. The Lord can deny nothing to the pleadings of an unstaggering faith, but even a trembling faith, a “Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief”, is acknowledged by our gentle Master. Go and plead your case with holy arguments, spreading your need before the Most High, and the Lord do unto you according to your faith.
