SHSAT

Beloved of All
god, please, I know i have not been studying and putting effort into this, i am so regretful of what i have done. but please, i will make sure i never take this lightly again. please let me get into ###.

We have heard your heartfelt cry about the SHSAT and your desire to be admitted to the specialized high school you have on your heart, and we join you in bringing this before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We hear your regret for not studying and not putting in the effort, and your sincere promise to not take this lightly again. That godly sorrow is a good place to turn back to the Lord and to walk in a new way.

We want to gently and lovingly rebuke the slothfulness that led to this place, not to shame you but to call you to what God desires for you. Scripture teaches us that diligence is a form of stewardship of the gifts God has given us. Proverbs 13:4 says The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied. And Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Proverbs 21:5 also says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. God honors honest, faithful work, and when we have been lazy or neglectful, the right response is to confess it, receive His forgiveness, and then by His strength walk diligently going forward, whether in studying, in school, or in all of life.

We also noticed you cried out to god but did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to share this truth with you in love because it is so important. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. 1 John 1:9 promises If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So we encourage you to come to God through Jesus, confessing your neglect, believing that Jesus died and rose again to forgive you, and trusting Him as Lord. When we pray in Jesus' name we are not using a formula, we are coming on the basis of what He has done for us.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we lift up this student to You. Lord, we thank You that You hear a contrite and honest heart. We confess together the lack of diligence and the wasted time, and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Lord, we ask that You would grant peace where there is anxiety and regret, and that You would help this dear one to trust Your perfect will for this SHSAT result and for admission to this school. If it is Your will, we ask that You would graciously open the door to this specialized high school, but above all we ask that Your will be done and that You would be glorified in the outcome. We pray You would give a renewed mind and discipline to study heartily as unto You from this day forward, not from fear or to bargain with You, but out of love and stewardship. Help this student to remember Philippians 4:6-7 which says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Give wisdom to prepare well for whatever path You have next, whether it is this school or another place where You can be honored. We pray for a future that seeks You first, trusting Jeremiah 29:11 which says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to take your regret and turn it into faithful action. Keep your vow before the Lord with humility, not relying on your own strength but asking Him daily for help to be diligent. Study faithfully now for whatever is next, use your time well, honor your teachers and parents, and commit your way to the Lord. Whatever the result of this test, know that your worth is not in a school name but in being a child of God through Christ, and God can use you greatly wherever He places you. Continue to seek Him, pray in Jesus' name, read His Word, and trust that He will lead you to what is best.

We can hear how heavy this is for you right now. Carrying regret about not studying harder while also waiting on something as big as the SHSAT is a lot to hold, and it makes sense you feel anxious and wish you could go back and do it differently.

We want to encourage you that feeling regret does not mean you have failed as a person. It shows you care, and you are learning what matters to you. God sees both your disappointment and your desire to do better going forward, and He is not measuring your worth by one test score.

While you wait, it can help to be gentle and honest with yourself. If there is still time before the test, make a simple, doable plan for the days left rather than trying to make up everything at once, and let a parent, teacher, or counselor know how you are feeling so you are not carrying this alone. If the test is already done, focus on what you can control now like rest, steady routines, and being honest about next steps whatever the result is. Either way, this one outcome does not decide your whole future, even though it feels that way right now.

Father, we lift this student to You. Quiet the worry and shame, and give clear peace and wisdom in these days. Help them to do faithfully what they can do now and to trust You with what they cannot control. Show them Your nearness and care through this. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer comes with an honesty that I would not lightly pass over, for you have confessed before God that you have not given diligence to the duty set before you, and you now feel regret for it.

Let me set before you scales and balances wherewith you may weigh this regret before the Lord, for there are many false kinds of repentance. There is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh, a sorrow only for the consequences of sin and sloth, a fear lest the desired gate should be shut. That repentance does not give God glory. True repentance, which is the gift of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in the soul, gives God glory. It makes a man weep and abhor his past course not merely because he may lose a benefit, but because he has sinned against so good a God, against a Father so kind and a Saviour so gracious. Ask yourself before the Lord whom no man can deceive, is your sorrow of this sort, that it leads you to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only, for pardon and for power to amend.

Remember also that repentance unto life is practical and lasting. It yields works meet for repentance. If a man has neglected his business and so has lost ground, it may mark a turn in his affairs when he says, I wish I had been more industrious, but if he abides in the same sloth as before, of what use is his regret. True repentance lives as long as faith lives. It does not come and go with an examination season, but it pulls down what is evil and builds up what is holy. It purges the soul from dead works and fills it with living works by faith in Christ.

Do not think that repentance is a thing you can work in yourself to bargain with God for a place in a school. Repentance and remission of sins are preached in the name of Jesus, and repentance itself is given by Him. You must not put your repenting into the place of Christ. Look to Him first for the forgiveness of all your sins, for if you have not yet trusted Him alone for salvation, no school can give you what your soul most needs. The goodness of God is meant to lead you to repentance, not to drive you by fear alone, but to draw you by love. His goodness to you in giving you time, health, mind and opportunity ought to make you grieve that you have trifled with His gifts.

And concerning your anxiety about this trial, know that anxiety itself will not bring grist to the mill nor meal to the barrel. It unfits you to meet the difficulty. Solomon said, Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Commit your way unto the Lord. Whether He opens this particular door or directs you to another, seek first to glorify Him in diligence, honesty and humility.

Let us pray together. O Lord, our God and Father, we confess that we have often been slothful stewards of the gifts Thou hast entrusted to us. We ask not only for a desired outcome, but for that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, which gives Thee glory and looks to Jesus Christ alone for mercy. Grant to this one a true repentance unto life, a practical repentance that will be seen in renewed diligence and faithfulness from this day forward. Forgive sin through the blood of Christ and grant remission to all who trust in Him. Take away fretful anxiety and give a calm trust in Thy good providence. If it be Thy will, grant favour in this examination, but above all do what is most for Thy glory and for the true good of this soul. Teach us to number our days and to use them well, that we may be found faithful in little and in much. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
