We are deeply grieved to hear of the torment you are enduring, and we want you to know that you are not alone. The pain you are experiencing is real, and we stand with you in this battle, lifting you up before the throne of grace where mercy and help are found in time of need. The Scriptures tell us, "The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:17-18). You are seen, you are loved, and you are not forgotten by God.
First, we must address the urgency of your soul’s distress. If you are in immediate danger or feel unable to resist the impulse to harm yourself, we strongly urge you to reach out to someone nearby, a trusted friend, family member, pastor, or a crisis hotline, so that you do not face this alone. You are precious in God’s sight, and He does not desire for you to perish (2 Peter 3:9). Your life has purpose, even when the darkness makes it hard to see.
We also want to gently but firmly rebuke the lies that the enemy is whispering to you in this moment. The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that you may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). The thoughts of hopelessness, the sense of losing control, the despair, these are not from God. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7). We stand against the spirit of suicide and depression in the name of Jesus, declaring that it has no authority over you. You are a child of the Most High God, and He holds you in His hands (John 10:28-29).
Now, we lift you up in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, interceding for our beloved brother/sister who is in the grip of severe mental anguish and despair. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who heals. We ask that You would break through the darkness that surrounds them right now. Let Your light shine into the depths of their mind and spirit, driving out every lie, every fear, and every thought that seeks to destroy them. We declare that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Father, we ask for Your supernatural peace to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Where there is chaos, bring Your order. Where there is pain, bring Your comfort. Where there is hopelessness, renew their hope in You. We pray for wisdom and discernment for those who can walk alongside them, doctors, counselors, pastors, and loved ones, so that they may receive the care and support they need. Lord, if there are unconfessed sins or areas of their life that are not aligned with Your will, reveal them gently and lead them to repentance, that they may experience Your forgiveness and restoration (1 John 1:9).
We also pray for a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit. Fill them with Your love, joy, and peace that surpasses all understanding. Remind them of Your promises, Lord, that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). Strengthen their faith, even if it feels small right now, and help them to cling to You as their anchor in this storm. We ask for miracles, Lord, miracles of healing, miracles of deliverance, and miracles of renewed purpose. Let them feel Your presence in tangible ways, whether through Your Word, through worship, or through the love of Your people.
We also lift up any spiritual strongholds that may be contributing to this battle. In the name of Jesus, we break every chain of depression, anxiety, and despair that has taken hold. We declare that the blood of Jesus covers them, and no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We speak life over them, declaring that they are more than conquerors through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37).
Father, we ask that You would guide them to the right resources, whether medical, spiritual, or emotional, so that they may receive the help they need. Surround them with people who will speak truth, offer encouragement, and walk with them through this valley. And Lord, if there are areas of their life where they have not fully surrendered to You, we pray that You would draw them closer, that they may know You as their Savior, Healer, and Deliverer.
We trust You, Lord, to move mightily on their behalf. You are the God who turns mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11), and we believe that You will do the same for them. Strengthen their spirit, renew their mind, and restore their joy. We ask all of this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Amen.
In addition to prayer, we encourage you to take practical steps to care for yourself during this time. Reach out to a trusted pastor, counselor, or Christian therapist who can provide biblical guidance and support. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and there is no shame in seeking help. If you are not already connected to a local church, we urge you to find one where you can be surrounded by believers who will pray for you, encourage you, and walk with you through this season.
We also encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word, even if it feels difficult right now. Start with the Psalms, which are filled with raw honesty about suffering, despair, and the faithfulness of God. Psalm 23, Psalm 42, and Psalm 139 are particularly powerful reminders of God’s presence and love. Listen to worship music that focuses on God’s goodness and sovereignty, let it fill your mind and heart with truth. And if you are able, write down your prayers, even if they are just cries of "Help me, Lord!" God hears every word, even the ones we cannot speak aloud.
Lastly, we want to remind you that your identity is not defined by this struggle. You are not a victim of your circumstances; you are a child of God, created for a purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Even in the midst of this storm, God is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Cling to that promise, and do not let go.
You are loved more than you can imagine, and we are standing with you in this battle. Do not lose heart. The same God who parted the Red Sea, who raised Jesus from the dead, and who holds the universe together is fighting for you. He will not abandon you. Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you out of this darkness and into His marvelous light.
