School

The start of a new school term brings a mixture of hope and worry for any parent, and you are right to bring your son before the Lord. There is a deep instinct in a mother’s heart to plead for her child’s wellbeing, much like those women of old who prayed earnestly for a son and dedicated him to God as the son of their vows. That same God who heard Hannah’s cry and gave her Samuel is the One who watches over your son today.

You specifically mentioned his brain health, and that is a fitting focus. The brain is a marvel of God’s design. All those tiny vibrations of sound and light are decoded into thoughts, memories, and understanding by a system more intricate than any computer. When your son sits in a classroom, his brain is cataloging new information, forming connections, and building the framework for future wisdom. Yet God knows those thought patterns inside out. He sees every empty circuit and every overloaded one, and He is able to sustain and heal what He has made. So pray boldly for the Creator to guard his mind, to give him clarity and retention, and to protect him from confusion or harm.

As for his safety and his schoolwork, remember that true instruction begins with the fear of the Lord. The book of Proverbs is full of a father’s appeal to his son: to incline his ear to wisdom, to cry out for understanding, to treasure the commandments. That wisdom is not mere head knowledge but a shield and an ornament of grace. When you pray for his schoolwork, you are ultimately asking that your son would learn to apply his heart to what is good and true, and that God would give him the discipline and diligence he needs. Solomon himself received wisdom as a gift, yet he knew that a child also needs loving correction and guidance to stay on the path. Your love for your son mirrors something of the Father’s care for us, chastening those He delights in so that we might share in His holiness.

There is another Father and Son relationship woven through Scripture that gives us ultimate comfort. Abraham was willing to offer his son, his only son whom he loved, yet God provided a substitute. That event pointed forward to a far greater sacrifice: the heavenly Father giving His only begotten Son for our redemption. Because Jesus is the Son of God, declared so with power through the resurrection, we now have the right to become children of God by adoption. The Spirit within us cries, “Abba, Father.” So when you intercede for your son, you stand in the confidence of a daughter petitioning her loving Father. You are not pleading with a distant deity but with the One who knows what it is to give a beloved Son.

Do not grow weary in praying. Ask the Lord to grant your son favor with his teachers, to keep him from harmful influences, and to bless the work of his hands. Whether he faces difficult subjects or moments of loneliness, the Lord sees and can intervene. And beyond academic success, pray that his heart would be drawn toward the only begotten Son, whose name is Emmanuel, God with us. How your son answers the question “Whose son is he?” in a spiritual sense matters more than anything else. That will shape his identity and his future far beyond this school term.

May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard both your heart and your son’s mind as you entrust him into the hands of the faithful Creator.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with the privilege of lifting your son up in prayer as he began this new term. Our hearts have been with you both, asking our Heavenly Father to watch over his health—especially the precious gift of his mind—along with his safety and the strength to thrive in his studies. We’ve prayed for peace to surround him, wisdom to guide his steps, and God’s presence to fill every classroom and hallway he walks through.

If the Lord has already answered these prayers in ways you’ve seen or felt, we would love to rejoice with you! Please share a praise report so we can give thanks together. If the answers haven’t yet become clear, or if new concerns have arisen, we encourage you to post this request again so we can continue standing with you in faith. Either way, we remain committed to praying for your son and your family, trusting that God is at work even when we can’t see it.

May the Lord bless you with His peace and assurance as you keep seeking Him through Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus’ name.
