I looked up something I had a question about deleting files on my phone after submitting them to my school now my OCD is telling me if I watch my show I enjoy 911 God will punish me or take away provision or blessings

We hear your fear and we want you to know we are standing with you in prayer right now, for we understand how heavy and loud those intrusive thoughts can feel when OCD tells you that something ordinary will cause God to punish you or take away His provision.

What you are describing is not the voice of God but the spirit of fear and false condemnation, and Scripture is very clear about this. 1 John 4:18 tells us there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. And 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. The thought that if you watch a show you enjoy, God will punish you or remove His blessings, is a lie that keeps you in bondage, not the truth of who our Father is. Romans 8:1 reminds us There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, and Psalm 103:10 tells us He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.

God’s provision and blessings are not fragile and they are not given and taken away based on whether you watch an episode of a television show. James 1:17 says Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 6:26 See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they. His care for you is rooted in His faithful love, not in a bargain where one small enjoyment triggers punishment. To look up a practical question about deleting files on your phone after you already submitted them to your school is not a sin, and enjoying a show like 911 in your rest time is not a sin either. We must be careful not to make bargains with God or believe in magical thinking where our actions control His love, for that is not faith but fear.

We also notice you spoke of God but did not mention Jesus, and we want to gently share why His name matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and peace with Him. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we have not put our trust in Jesus, we remain under fear of punishment, but when we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, Romans 10:9 promises we will be saved, and His perfect love then quiets our fear. It is because of Jesus’ sacrifice that God no longer holds our sins against us and does not punish us for every thought or mistake.

So we pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You see the anxiety and the intrusive thoughts that are tormenting them, and You know their heart wants to honor You. We ask You to quiet the spirit of fear and replace it with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding as Philippians 4:6-7 promises, that peace which will guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Lord, help them to cast all their worries on You because You care for them, as 1 Peter 5:7 says, and to know deep in their soul that You are not a punishing God waiting to take away provision, but a loving Father who gives good gifts to Your children. In Jesus’ name we rebuke the lie that watching a show will bring punishment, and we ask You to break the cycle of OCD-driven guilt and fear. Give them a sound mind, assurance of Your grace, and the freedom to rest and enjoy the good things You provide without fear. Heal their anxiety and draw them closer to Jesus, in whom there is no condemnation, and let them feel Your presence saying Isaiah 41:10 Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Amen.

We encourage you to keep bringing these fearful thoughts to God honestly in prayer the moment they come, reminding yourself of what Scripture says is true rather than what fear says might happen. It can also be very helpful to share this struggle with a trusted pastor, a biblical counselor, and if the OCD thoughts are frequent and distressing, a qualified counselor or medical professional who understands scrupulosity and intrusive thoughts, for God often brings healing through the help of others. You are not alone, you are not being punished, and you are dearly loved. We are continuing to pray that you will experience the freedom and rest that comes from knowing His love is steadfast and His provision for you is secure in Christ.

We hear how scary and stuck this feels for you right now. Looking up a simple question about deleting files after you turned in school work, and then having your mind turn it into a threat that God will punish you or pull back His care if you watch the show you enjoy, that is an exhausting place to be.

What you are describing sounds like those intrusive, looping thoughts that feel very urgent and very true in the moment, but they are not the voice of God. God is not waiting to take away provision because you relax and watch 911. When OCD-type thoughts put conditions like that on you, it can help to notice what is happening and name it quietly to yourself, this is an anxious thought trying to make a bargain, not a warning I have to obey.

When that thought comes, you don't have to argue with it or prove it wrong, and you don't have to avoid the show to stay safe. You can pause, let the thought be there without acting on it, and choose what you actually want to do. If these looping thoughts happen often and make daily life hard, it can be a real help to talk with a counselor or pastor you trust, or a mental health professional, alongside prayer.

Father, we lift this dear one to You right now. You see the fear and the pressure they feel. Bring calm to their mind, remind them of Your steady love and care that does not shift with every anxious thought, and give them wisdom and peace as they sort through school and these worries. Help them feel supported and not alone. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your fear has been heard, and I would have you know that the voice which tells you God will punish you or withdraw His provision if you watch a show you enjoy is not the voice of your Father in heaven.

The Lord does not deal with His children upon the ground of bargain or threat. His gifts are freely given, received through grace, and understood by grace. Everything is of divine grace. It is given of grace, and the very hand with which we take the gift is nerved to do so by God's grace. His gifts are not trinkets and counterfeits, but solid gold and lasting treasure, and He does not give and then snatch away because of a small and innocent act. If salvation and provision depended upon our perfect performance, not one of us would stand, for we would have been without God and without Christ had not free grace saved us. But grace reigns, and it reigns unto eternal life, not by our works but by His sovereign love.

To look up a question about deleting files from your phone after submitting them to your school is no sin before God. There is nothing in such an act that calls for punishment. And to rest and watch a lawful entertainment is not a cause for God to take away blessing. The fear that says, if I do this ordinary thing God will harm me, is a cruel bondage, and it dishonors the character of Him who has revealed Himself in shame and death upon the cross that He might show mercy.

Scripture says, Fear not, for I will help thee. We must labor to get rid, as much as possible, of such fear, for fear is weakening and fear dishonors God. Shall we think that the arm which piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth will be turned against a trembling child for watching a show. The fear of God brings blessing, but this tormenting fear brings a snare, and many feet have been tripped by it.

When these thoughts come, do not argue with them as if they were God's warnings. Bring them to Christ. Say, You are my God, and rest there. That is the end of all good things. What more does a man need. Remember that you are His pupil, and He is patient to teach you from your youth until now. He chastens but He never casts out those who trust in Jesus alone for salvation.

If this pattern of fearful thoughts continues and presses heavily upon you, as it often does with what is called OCD, I urge you to speak openly with a faithful pastor and, if needful, a trusted counselor who understands these struggles, that you may be helped to discern the difference between true conviction of sin and the false accusations of an anxious mind. Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together, for much grace is received in the congregation of God's people and in the means of grace.

May the Lord quiet your heart tonight. May He show you that His grace abounds over abounding sin, that He gives grace to those who have nothing but sin about them, and that having loved you freely He will keep you freely. Trust in the Lord and do good, rest on His grace and hope in His mercy, and you shall find that storms are the triumph of His art and grace can steer the ship the better for tempestuous waves.

Let us pray for you, that God of all grace would draw near, still this fear, establish your heart in His free and reigning grace through Jesus Christ, and give you peace to rest and to receive His good gifts with thankfulness. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I hear how frightening this feels and I am grateful you shared it honestly. The kind of thought you describe, where your mind tells you that if you do a normal and innocent thing like watching a show you enjoy, God will punish you or take away His provision, is a very common and distressing pattern with OCD. It is not the voice of God convicting you of sin, but an anxious and scrupulous thought that keeps you in fear.

Looking up how to delete files from your phone after you submitted them to your school is not sinful. It is a practical question and you have not done anything wrong by asking it. In the same way, watching a show like 911 that you enjoy is not something that makes God turn against you. God does not deal with us through bargains or traps where one small enjoyment causes Him to withdraw His care. Scripture shows that God is mild and gracious, and His provision for His children rests on His faithfulness and on the grace given through Jesus Christ, not on whether we perfectly avoid every anxious what if.

There is a healthy fear of God that helps us take His word seriously and want to walk in His ways, but there is also a scrupulosity that goes beyond what God requires and keeps a person constantly afraid that without knowing it they have done something wrong. One of the early preachers warned that we should not be driven to another extreme by fear, exercising a greater carefulness than is necessary, as if God is waiting to catch us. The person who is always making strict inquiries does so from dread, while God calls us to live with a settled trust and a clear conscience before Him.

Because of Jesus, those who trust in Him receive forgiveness and are made heirs of the promise. Where grace is present there is forgiveness, and where forgiveness is present punishment is removed. That does not mean we treat sin lightly, but it does mean God's blessings are not so fragile that they are taken away because you watched an episode of a show. He receives the one who comes to Him through Christ and He continues to care for that person as a Father.

When this fear comes, it can help to name it for what it is. You can say, this is an intrusive anxious thought, not a true word from God. Test it against what you know of Scripture. Is there a clear command of God being broken by resting and enjoying a show that is not itself dishonoring to Him. If not, you are free to receive that rest with thanksgiving. Bring the fear itself to God in prayer honestly, tell Him you feel afraid and ask Him to help you trust His character, and do not make inner bargains with Him like if I do this then you must do that. If these thoughts keep coming and feel overwhelming, please speak with a trusted pastor and consider talking with a Christian counselor who understands OCD, so you are not carrying this alone.

I will pray that God gives you peace, that He quiets this fear, and that you grow in confidence in His kindness and in the finished work of Jesus on your behalf. He sees your desire to honor Him, and He invites you to rest in His care rather than live under constant dread. If you continue to feel scared, keep reaching out for support and keep bringing your worries to Him, trusting that He hears and that He will sustain you.
