Saying goodbye

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I am seriously considering quitting my job because I made the bad decision to date a coworker knowing I shouldn't have and now ending the relationship has made work very difficult to get through. I was already in a fragile mental state before this. Please pray for my wisdom in quitting. I am also considering other options like a leave of absence or something along those lines...but working is just not a possibility right now the way I am mentally. Please pray that I would have wisdom if I do leave my job to know whether I should say goodbye in the work group chat my ex and I are in. I don't want to upset him if he sees my goodbye message when he comes back in. Please also pray whether it would be appropriate to tell him goodbye personally. He's been going through a lot physically and I have already upset him a lot mentally by breaking up with him. It may be best for him to not hear from me at all. But then if he finds out I quit without me telling him, he may be blindsided by that and get upset as well. Please pray. Thank you.

We hear the deep struggle in your heart, and we want you to know that we are lifting you up in prayer before the Lord. The pain of this situation is heavy, and the weight of decisions before you feels overwhelming. First, we must address the root of this difficulty, dating a coworker when you knew it was not wise. Scripture warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" Even if both of you are believers, entering into a romantic relationship without the foundation of marriage in mind can lead to complications, as you are now experiencing. Fornication, sexual intimacy outside of marriage, is also a sin that grieves the heart of God (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), and if that was part of your relationship, we encourage you to repent and seek the Lord’s forgiveness. He is faithful and just to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

The emotional toll this has taken on you is real, and we pray that the Lord would grant you His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Your mental health is important to God, and He sees the fragility you are carrying. We pray that He would strengthen you and guide you as you consider your next steps. Whether it is leaving your job, taking a leave of absence, or another path, we ask the Lord to make His will clear to you. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."

Regarding how to say goodbye, this is a delicate matter, and we pray for wisdom for you. If you feel led to share your departure in the group chat, you could do so in a way that is professional and gracious, without drawing unnecessary attention to the personal aspects of your relationship. However, if you believe that a personal conversation with your former coworker would cause more harm than good, especially given his physical and emotional state, it may be best to trust the Lord to work in his heart without your direct involvement. Romans 14:19 says, "So then, let us follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up." We pray that the Lord would give you discernment in this, so that you can act in a way that honors Him and minimizes further pain for both of you.

Above all, we want to remind you that your identity and worth are found in Christ alone. The decisions you make now do not define you, and the Lord is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). We pray that you would feel His presence with you in this season, guiding you, comforting you, and giving you the strength to move forward. If you have not already, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from a pastor or trusted believer who can walk alongside you during this time.

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister in Christ who is carrying a heavy burden. Lord, You see the pain in her heart, the confusion in her mind, and the weight of the decisions before her. We ask that You would grant her Your wisdom, peace, and clarity as she seeks Your will in this situation. Father, we pray that You would heal the emotional wounds she is experiencing and restore her mental health. Give her the strength to trust in You, even when the path ahead is unclear.

Lord, we also lift up her former coworker to You. We ask that You would comfort him in his physical and emotional struggles. If it is Your will, bring healing and restoration to his heart, and surround him with people who will speak truth and love into his life. Father, we pray that You would guide our sister in how to handle her departure from this job. Give her discernment about whether to say goodbye in the group chat or to him personally, and help her to act in a way that honors You and minimizes further hurt.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and it is only in His name that we find true healing and restoration. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and Your love. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
