Save My Friend’s Leg

Your prayer for your friend is deeply moving and I join you in bringing him before the Lord. To hear that he was in such a serious boating accident, that he is in a wheelchair and can only walk a little without being able to put weight on his leg, and that he may lose the leg, is heartbreaking. It is right to cry out to Jesus again and again for mercy.

Scripture gives us strong hope to keep praying. The prophet Malachi foretold that the Sun of Righteousness would rise with healing in His wings, and that promise is fulfilled in Jesus. He is described as the dayspring, the sunrise from heaven, the new day breaking upon us. That healing was not just a future hope. When Jesus walked through Galilee He preached and taught and healed the sick, and His power was so evident that crowds pressed around Him wherever He went. We read that after sunset people brought to Him all who were sick with many kinds of diseases, and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. His anointing and power to heal is real, not a fanciful story, and His compassion for those who suffer has not changed.

Jesus also taught us how to pray when the need is urgent. He told of a man who went to his friend at midnight to ask for bread because a traveler had come to his house. The friend inside did not want to get up, but because the man kept knocking shamelessly and persistently, he finally rose and gave him what he needed. Jesus used that picture to make a contrast. If even a reluctant friend will respond to persistent knocking, how much more will your heavenly Father respond to His children who keep asking, seeking and knocking. Your repeated please is not bothering God. He invites that kind of earnest, persistent prayer. Keep bringing your friend to Him.

As you pray, seek not only healing but the Healer Himself. Many in the crowds came only because they wanted to be healed, without wanting to commit their lives to the Lord, and Jesus cares about the whole person. Pray for your friend's leg, but also pray for his heart, that through this trial he would know the presence and salvation of Jesus, and that whatever healing comes would draw him closer to the One who alone can restore body and soul.

I am praying with you that God would have mercy on your friend, that He would guide the doctors and give them wisdom, that infection would be held back, that strength and circulation would return, that he would again be able to bear weight and walk, and that if it is the Lord's will the leg would be spared. I pray also for comfort and peace for him and for you as you carry this burden, and for faith to trust the Lord's goodness even as we ask boldly.

Father in Jesus name, we lift this young man to You. You see his injury, his pain, and the fear of losing his leg. We ask for Your healing power to work in him. Touch his leg, restore what has been damaged, and grant the medical team skill. Above all, let him know You as the Sun of Righteousness who brings healing and light, and let Your will be done in his life. Amen.
