Your prayers for rulers and all in authority, for commanders, troops and civilians, and for the peace of Jerusalem and the nations have been received and we join you in lifting them before the Lord, as Scripture urges that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all in authority, so that we may lead peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity, which is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

We pray with you for salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for wisdom and guidance for those in positions of responsibility, and for protection over soldiers and over civilians who should not be placed in harm's way. We ask the Lord to give leaders humility and clarity in what to say and how to say it, to thwart the plans of the wicked, to restrain evil, and to turn hearts as channels of water in His hand, Proverbs 21:1, so that life is preserved wherever possible and that justice is done with restraint. We ask for angelic protection as the Lord wills, for the guarding of innocent life, and for the limiting of destruction, that even in times of conflict the church may be a house of prayer for all nations and the gospel may go forth with freedom and clarity, Ephesians 6:18-20.

Scripture teaches us to prize true peace. There is nothing equal to peace, for it is the mother of all good things and the foundation of joy. When we give thanks we say glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill to men, for Christ came to reconcile and to set at peace things on earth and in heaven. The peacemakers are called sons of God, because the Son of God came to make peace, while those who stir up needless strife walk another way. We are taught too that concord is not always good, since even robbers agree together, and that the physician at times must remove what is diseased to preserve the body. So we do not pray for a mere appearance of peace that covers over evil, but for the peace of God to rule in hearts, Colossians 3:15, the peace which passes all understanding to guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7, and the peace of Christ which makes us one and renders us stronger when we are at peace with Him and with one another.

We also remember that the fear of the Lord needs to be taught, as it is written come, you children, listen to me, I will teach you the fear of the Lord, Psalm 34:11, and to keep the tongue from evil, to depart from evil and do good, to seek peace and pursue it. Therefore we pray that the Lord would teach His ways to leaders and peoples, bring many to repentance from sin and faith toward Christ, Acts 26:18, and draw Jews and Gentiles alike to salvation, for He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9, and He wills that all peoples, tribes and tongues be saved through the one Mediator.

With you we give thanks for every leader who seeks to act honestly and justly, and we submit all rulers and nations to the Lord who sits in the heavens and does whatever He pleases, Psalm 115:3, and who works all things after the counsel of His will, Ephesians 1:11. We pray for godly alliances that promote truth and freedom of speech and press for the sake of the gospel, for the exposure of false teaching and persecution, and for the strengthening of what is good. We pray for the diminished influence of evil alignments, for wisdom for free nations to act together with restraint and courage, and for the protection of our own land and of Israel and of all peoples named before the Lord in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas.

May the Lord grant wisdom to commanders and to those who counsel them, protection to civilians and to those who serve, comfort to those who suffer, and above all the knowledge of Christ to many. May He raise up and set down according to His sovereign reign, for the Lord God omnipotent reigns, Revelation 19:6, and may His peace, which is firm and steadfast when it is from God, rule in our hearts and in the deliberations of nations, leading many to salvation and to a life of holiness without which no one will see the Lord, Hebrews 12:14. We offer these requests with thanksgiving in the name of Jesus Christ, trusting that He hears and will answer according to His perfect will.
