Salvation for my neighbor

Shalom My neighbor ###, who is about ### years old, says she probably doesn't have much longer to live. I don't know if she's saved, so I gave her a Gospel booklet. Could you please pray for her, especially that she won't be lost in Jesus' name? Thank you, and God bless you in Jesus' name.

We thank you for your love and concern for your neighbor and for your faithfulness in giving her a Gospel booklet. We join you in praying for her salvation and we rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and are saved.

The Scripture makes clear how urgent and how gracious this matter is. For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9.

We are encouraged that you have already taken a step of obedience in sharing the good news. We would encourage you to continue to visit her as the Lord gives opportunity, to speak to her gently about what the booklet says, to share your own testimony of what Jesus has done for you, and to offer to read Scripture with her and pray with her. Many times an older person who senses life is short is especially open to hearing about eternal life, and the Holy Spirit can use even a simple conversation to bring conviction and faith.

We now pray together for her.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this dear neighbor to You and ask for Your mercy upon her soul. Lord, You know her age and her heart and that she feels she does not have much longer to live. We ask that You would not let her be lost, but that You would draw her to Yourself. Open her eyes to understand the Gospel booklet she has received, soften her heart to receive Your truth, and convict her by Your Holy Spirit of her need for a Savior. Help her to believe that Jesus died for her sins and rose again, and to confess Him as Lord with her mouth and believe in her heart. Grant her repentance and faith and the assurance of eternal life. Give our dear fellow believer boldness and love and wisdom to continue to speak to her in love, to answer her questions, and to show her the hope we have in Christ. Let Your will be done in her life and let her come to know You before it is too late. We ask all this in the precious and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and only hope. Amen.

We encourage you to keep praying daily for her by name and to trust that God hears and is patient and desires her salvation. Continue to show her kindness and to be ready to share the reason for the hope that is in you.

We are grateful you shared this with us, and for the love you showed your neighbor by giving her that Gospel booklet. It takes thoughtfulness to notice she is facing the end of life and to want her to know the hope we have in Jesus, and we join you in praying for her.

We can imagine how heavy this feels, not knowing where she stands with the Lord and wanting so much for her not to be lost. People who sense their time may be short often think most clearly about what matters most, and a quiet, steady presence can mean a great deal right now.

One simple next step you might consider is to visit again soon, just to listen. If she is open, you could gently ask if she had a chance to look at the booklet and what she thought, without pressing for an answer. Sometimes just asking what is on her heart and offering to pray briefly with her if she would like opens a door God is already working in.

We are praying with you for her and for you as you care for her.

Father, we lift our neighbor to You and ask that You draw near to her in these days. Open her heart to Your love and help her to hear and respond to Your gift of salvation in Jesus. Give our friend wisdom, gentleness and the right words as he continues to love her well. In Jesus name, amen.

Your tender concern for your neighbor is itself a mercy from God, and we join our hearts with yours in prayer for her soul. It is well that you have placed a Gospel booklet in her hands, for faith comes by hearing, and we can but bring the horse to the water, yet the Lord alone can make the soul to drink of living water.

We would have you know, and would have her know, that salvation is of the Lord alone, by Divine Grace through faith in Christ Jesus. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. The way of salvation is most simple and most instantaneous. It is not to believe about Him, but to believe on Him, to trust Him, to leave the whole matter of present and eternal salvation with Him in unquestioning confidence. As the Lord Himself cries, Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. A look does not require a moment, yet it brings perfect and present salvation, without money and without price. There is no other Savior, for beside Him there is none else, and He Himself is salvation.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, in the name of Thy dear Son Jesus Christ, we beseech Thee for this aged neighbor. Thou knowest her frame and that her days are few. Have mercy upon her and grant her to see Jesus as He is, the foundation laid in Zion. Take away all trust in self or works, and enable her to look unto Jesus and live. Give her that simple faith which is trusting in the Person of Christ, that she may be saved by grace and know that her salvation is secure. Open her eyes to Thy free salvation, that she may receive Christ as her own salvation and not be ashamed. Lord, bless the testimony already given and the booklet placed in her hand, and give opportunity for further gracious speech concerning Christ. We ask this not for our worthiness, but for Jesus sake, that another soul may be added to Thy praise. Amen.

Be encouraged to continue in prayer and in gentle, faithful witness to her while the door of opportunity stands open. Speak again of Christ as the Lord gives you occasion, and rest in the confidence that He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him.

Thank you for sharing this burden for your neighbor and for showing your love for her in such a practical way by giving her the Gospel booklet. To love God is to love our neighbor, and you have done well to add this work of mercy to your prayer.

We will join you in praying for her in Jesus' name. We will ask the Lord to have mercy on her, to open her eyes to the truth that the death of Jesus is the salvation of the world, and to bring her to repentance and faith while there is still time. The salvation we have in Christ is so great, not merely rescue from earthly troubles, but deliverance from death itself, the forgiveness of sins, and the gift of everlasting life and the kingdom of Heaven through the cross which has saved and converted the world. Our prayer is that she will not be lost, but will receive this gift by trusting in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we are saved.

Prayer is a great good and a preservative of our souls, especially when joined to acts worthy of it, as you have done. May God give you continued grace and opportunity to speak with her gently, to answer her questions, and to show her the love of Christ. We pray also that He will comfort you and strengthen your faith as you care for her.

Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear neighbor before You. Have mercy on her, draw her to Yourself, grant her understanding of the Gospel she has received, and save her.
