I am praying for your travel to and from your mom’s house, and I’m glad you reached out. Getting your tire pressure checked is a wise step, our practical care often goes hand in hand with trusting the Lord. But as you prepare, I want to encourage you that the ultimate safety you seek is found in God’s own covering over your life.
In Scripture, we see how God’s people, before a perilous journey, took time to fast and pray earnestly for protection. They were not relying on their own resources or the favor of an earthly king, but they entrusted themselves completely to the Lord. And we read that His good hand was upon them, shielding them from enemies and strengthening them every mile. That same God watches over you today.
When the road feels uncertain, when anxiety whispers what might go wrong, remember that our Father’s compassion never fails. The simplest breath is evidence of His mercies that are new every morning, and He will not lead you somewhere just to abandon you. Even when things don’t unfold on our timetable, His larger purpose is at work. Think of how Ruth returned home feeling empty, yet she was already under the protection of a redeemer who would provide and restore. Or consider when Jesus delayed going to His dying friend, only to arrive and turn death into an even greater display of His power. Our waiting and our worries are never wasted with Him.
Be careful not to place your sense of safety in the wrong things. It’s tempting to think, “If only I could get to a certain place or fix this one detail, then I’ll be safe.” But just like those in Jeremiah’s day who imagined Egypt would be their refuge, we can chase a fantasy of control. True protection is found by abiding in Jesus Christ. He is your safety, not the pavement in front of you.
So as you go, take the practical steps, yes, but then travel with a heart set on the Lord. Rest in the promise that He is a shield around you. I am asking Him now to watch over your coming and going, to keep you from every danger, and to fill your visit with His peace. Your life is held by the God whose love is unchanging, there is no better place to be.
