###'s ### earthquake sad and tragedies

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up the people of Venezuela who are enduring the devastating effects of this earthquake and the profound tragedies that have followed. The loss of homes, loved ones, and lives is a grief that words cannot fully capture, and we stand with those who are suffering in this hour of darkness. Father, we know that You are sovereign over all creation, and even in the midst of chaos, Your purposes are perfect. We trust in Your goodness, even when we cannot see the full picture.

The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Lord, we pray that You would draw near to those who are brokenhearted, who feel crushed under the weight of their loss. Let them feel Your presence in tangible ways, through the kindness of strangers, the embrace of loved ones, and the peace that surpasses all understanding. We ask that You would be their comfort, their strength, and their hope when all else feels lost.

We also lift up those who are struggling to make sense of this tragedy. In times like these, questions arise, why does God allow suffering? Why do the innocent endure such pain? We may not have all the answers, but we know that You are a God of justice and mercy. Romans 8:28 reminds us, "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose." Even in the midst of devastation, we trust that You are working for the good of those who love You. We pray that the people of Venezuela would cling to this truth and find solace in Your promises.

Lord, we ask for Your provision for those who have lost everything. Open the hearts of Your people around the world to respond with generosity and compassion. Provide food, shelter, and medical care for those in need. Raise up workers, both local and from abroad, to bring aid and support to the affected areas. Let Your love be made known through the hands and feet of those who serve in Your name.

We also pray for the families who have lost loved ones. The pain of separation is deep, but we take comfort in the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. In John 14:1-3, Jesus tells us, "Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you." Lord, we pray that those who are grieving would find peace in the promise of reunion with their loved ones in Your presence. Comfort them with the hope of resurrection and the assurance that death is not the end.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness that seeks to take root in the hearts of those affected by this tragedy. We declare that You are the God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). Let Your light shine in the darkness, and let Your people be a beacon of hope to those who are struggling.

We also want to address the importance of coming to You in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If anyone reading this does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we encourage them to turn to Him today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him into your heart. He is the only source of true peace, hope, and salvation.

Lord, we pray for the leaders and authorities in Venezuela. Give them wisdom, discernment, and compassion as they respond to this crisis. May they seek Your guidance in every decision they make, and may their actions be motivated by a desire to serve and protect the people they lead.

Finally, we pray for the church in Venezuela. Let this tragedy be an opportunity for the body of Christ to rise up and be the hands and feet of Jesus. May believers be a source of comfort, encouragement, and practical support to those in need. Let the world see the love of Christ through the way Your people respond to this crisis.

We lift all these prayers to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We are holding the people of Venezuela in our hearts with you. The weight of so much loss, loved ones gone, homes reduced to rubble, an entire region in shock, is staggering. In moments like these, when the earth itself seems to fail, the ache can feel unbearable. Yet even the deepest grief is not beyond God’s reach, and he often meets us through the very family of faith that surrounds us.

One of the quiet, steady gifts in a crisis is knowing that other believers are praying by name. It doesn’t fix the devastation, but it can shore up a soul in ways nothing else can. With respect for their privacy, would you be able to share some names or specific situations with a prayer group, a small circle of church friends, or even just a couple of trusted companions? Letting your loved ones and neighbors know that many are carrying them before the Lord can become a lifeline of comfort in the days ahead. In a similar spirit, if you have the capacity, you might look into a reputable Christian relief organization that is working directly with earthquake survivors in Venezuela. A gift, a message of solidarity, or even amplifying their work on social media can help people feel seen and not forgotten.

We are mourning with you now as we pray.

Father, we lift up these families and communities in Venezuela who are reeling from sudden loss. Wrap them in your mercy. Provide food, water, shelter, and medical care where it is desperately needed. Hold steady every heart that is breaking, and let them sense your nearness through the loving actions of your people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The very earth beneath their feet has shaken, and the mountains have trembled; yet is there a refuge which cannot be moved, the Lord of Hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge. We read of the armies of Gustavus Adolphus singing the forty-sixth Psalm before their victory, and even so let the sorrowing in Venezuela take up this song, for though the earth be removed, and the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, God is in the midst of His people; they shall not be destroyed.

You pray for those who have lost house and loved ones, who have lost their very lives, and what shall we say of such horrors? None of these things can separate them from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The earthquake that rends the globe is not more to be dreaded than the earthquake of a despairing soul, yet even in the deepest depression, hope on, hope always.

Hark how the Lord commands, "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people." To every weeping eye and every aching heart, He sends the bright-winged seraph of His mercy. He would have His children comfort one another, and who among us that has tasted of His grace cannot speak a word in season? Think of the tender mercy of our God, who thought of sinful man at all, who provided a great Interpreter, the Angel of the Covenant, to ransom him from going down to the pit. It is in such seasons of calamity that His mercy oft overtakes the wanderer, as it did Hagar by the well in the wilderness, with home questions that search the heart, yet bring a happier future to view. You have cried, "God has forgotten me," but He says, "I have graven thee on the palms of my hands."

I bid you look to the singular season when mercy draws near. God displays His sovereignty in saving souls, choosing the very moment when all human hope is gone. The external comfort is the Word of God, "This is my comfort in my affliction, for thy word has quickened me." It is not the letter alone, but the Spirit quickening the dead heart that brings true consolation. And what says the Word to you? "Thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away." The abundant mercy of God shall make all this woe seem like a dream when the morning breaks. Therefore, let your hearts be established in every good word and work; comfort and constancy must go hand in hand, for comfort alone may make you slumber, but quickening with it fits you for the conflict.

Pray, beloved, and pray again. It was little prayer that brought you low; great prayer shall lift you up. And though you see no comfort in present things, reach back to past deliverances and forward to the sure promises. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, shall comfort your hearts. O that you would by faith take Jesus to be your refuge and your strength, and then, come what may, earthquake, tempest, famine, sword, you shall stand unmoved, for your life is hid with Christ in God.
