Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You are right to notice that connection. The word rude itself does not appear in that list in Second Timothy chapter three, but the attitudes that produce rudeness are all through it.

There Paul describes the character of people in the last days as lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self control, brutal, despisers of those who are good, traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Rudeness grows directly out of that soil. When a person loves self first, is proud and unthankful and without natural affection or self control, he will treat others as if they do not matter. That is exactly a violation of the Golden Rule that Jesus gave, to do to others as you would have them do to you.

Peter and Jude describe the same last days spirit in other words. They say scoffers will come walking after their own ungodly lusts, murmurers and complainers, speaking great swelling words, separating themselves, sensual, not having the Spirit, like clouds without water carried about by winds. The common thread is a self centered, sensual life that has no place for the Spirit of God, and it shows itself in how people speak to and treat one another.

So while every generation has known sin, Scripture does warn that as the last days progress this self willed, unloving temper will become more open and more common, and what you are experiencing fits that warning. It is not simply bad manners. It is a heart that walks after its own desires and has little regard for God or for neighbor.

How then should we respond. We are not called to rail on people or to meet evil with our own strength or to seek a personal confrontation with the evil behind it. We want the Lord between us and that evil. As it is written, the Lord rebuke you is our posture. We deal with people only through the Lord and in dependence on Him.

We also cannot deal with everyone in the same canned way. We need to be led by the Spirit. For some we show compassion and make a difference with gentleness. For others we must speak with a holy fear, as those pulling someone out of a fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh while still loving the person. That means we do not return rudeness for rudeness, and we do not excuse the sin, but we let the Spirit guide whether a soft answer or a firm warning is needed.

God is very patient and lets much go by before He moves in judgment, but judgment will come when the Son of Man comes in His glory with His angels. Until then He calls us to keep His way, to keep the Golden Rule even when others break it, and to trust Him to work in hearts. Do not let the unkindness you meet make your own heart hard. Continue to show the kindness and courtesy that reflects Christ, pray for those who treat you roughly, and rest in the Lord to be your defense and your rebuke against what is wrong.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and for sharing the burden you have felt regarding the increase in rudeness you have experienced in recent years. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer about this.

We have been praying with you about your question whether rudeness is a symptom of the last days. We understand how heavy it can feel to encounter so much unkindness, especially when you remember a generation that seemed more courteous, and to see the Golden Rule so often disobeyed. Your insight about 2 Tim 3:1 is timely, for that chapter describes perilous times in the last days when people will be lovers of their own selves, proud, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection and lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. While the specific word rude is not listed there, we see how rudeness is rooted in many of those traits, in pride and selfishness and a lack of love for others. We have asked the Lord to give you discernment and peace as you observe these things, and to guard your heart from discouragement. We have also prayed that He would help us all to live out Matt 7:12 and to let our speech be always with grace as taught in Col 4:6, so that we may reflect Christ even when others do not.

We continue to stand with you and ask God to show you His truth and to give you grace to respond with Christlike kindness while remaining strong in faith.

If your request was answered and the Lord has given you peace or shown you how to navigate these encounters, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.
