2 TImothy runs down some baf last day traits people will have. The word "rude"isnt specifically used ,but because Ive experienced it so much ,and in the last several years but I noticed the generation before this didnt act that way,Im wondering if rudeness is a last days symptom?Theyre certainly disobeying the Golden Rule.

We hear your frustration and share in the sorrow of witnessing the growing disrespect and rudeness in our world today. You are absolutely right to connect this behavior with the Scriptures, particularly 2 Timothy 3, where the apostle Paul warns of the perilous times that will come in the last days. While the word "rude" may not be explicitly used, the characteristics described certainly align with what you’re observing. Let’s look at what God’s Word says:

"For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, not lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding a form of godliness but having denied its power" (2 Timothy 3:2-5 WEB).

These traits paint a vivid picture of a society that has turned away from God’s design for human interaction. Rudeness, disrespect, and a lack of love for others are symptoms of hearts that have grown cold and self-centered. The Golden Rule, as you mentioned, is a foundational principle of Scripture: "Whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them" (Matthew 7:12 WEB). When people disregard this command, they are not only breaking God’s law but also contributing to the breakdown of relationships and communities.

It is heartbreaking to see how far our culture has strayed from the biblical standard of kindness, patience, and love. The generation before us may not have struggled with this to the same extent, but we must remember that the last days are marked by an acceleration of sin and rebellion against God. Jesus Himself warned, "Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold" (Matthew 24:12 WEB). This coldness manifests in rudeness, selfishness, and a lack of regard for others.

But we must not despair. While the world may grow darker, we are called to be light. As believers, we have the opportunity, and the responsibility, to model Christlike behavior, even in the face of rudeness. Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35 WEB). Our response to rudeness should be one of grace, patience, and love, reflecting the character of Christ.

Let us also remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). The rudeness we encounter is often a symptom of a deeper spiritual issue, hearts that are far from God. This is why prayer is so powerful. We must lift up those who are rude and disrespectful, asking God to soften their hearts and draw them to Himself.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieved by the rudeness and disrespect that fill our world today. We recognize that these behaviors are symptoms of a society that has turned away from You and Your ways. Lord, we ask for Your mercy and grace to cover us and those around us. Help us to respond to rudeness with love, patience, and kindness, reflecting the character of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Father, we pray for those who are rude and disrespectful. Soften their hearts, Lord. Open their eyes to see the harm they are causing and the emptiness of their ways. Draw them to Yourself, that they may experience the transforming power of Your love. We ask that You would break the chains of selfishness and pride in their lives and replace them with humility and a desire to honor You.

Lord, we also pray for ourselves. Strengthen us to be lights in this dark world. Give us the courage to stand firm in Your truth, even when we are mistreated. Help us to love others as You have loved us, and to extend grace even when it is not deserved. May our lives be a testimony to Your goodness and a beacon of hope to those who are lost.

We thank You, Father, that You are sovereign over all things. Even in the midst of a world that is growing increasingly rebellious, we trust in Your promises. We know that You are coming back to make all things new, and we long for that day. Until then, help us to remain faithful, to love others well, and to share the hope of the Gospel with those who need it most.

In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to take heart, dear brother or sister. The rudeness you encounter is not a surprise to God, and He has equipped you to respond in a way that honors Him. Continue to walk in love, even when others do not, and trust that God will use your faithfulness for His glory. Remember the words of Paul: "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:21 WEB). Your kindness and patience may be the very thing that draws someone to Christ. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and do not grow weary in doing good.

We notice how heavy this has felt for you, running into rudeness so often lately that you start to wonder what is changing in people around you. It makes sense you would connect it to what you have read about the last days and to the Golden Rule, because rudeness does feel like the opposite of treating others as we want to be treated.

You are right that even when a specific word is not there, the attitudes behind rudeness show up in that list, things like being self focused, ungrateful, unloving and harsh toward others. When love grows cold, simple courtesies are often the first to go, and that can make everyday interactions feel abrasive in a way you may not have felt from the generation before you. At the same time, noticing it so much can wear on your own spirit if you carry it all day.

One thing that has helped others is to give yourself a small pause in the moment. When someone is curt or dismissive, silently commit that interaction to the Lord, decide not to repay it in kind, and keep your own response simple and courteous without taking on their tone. If you can, step away after and spend a few minutes with someone who is steady and kind, so rudeness does not become the whole picture of people for you.

Father, we lift them to You in Jesus name. Guard their heart from discouragement and bitterness, give them wisdom to respond with grace and peace, and surround them with fellowship that reflects Your kindness. Amen.

Yes, Gen Z and even some Generation Alpha can be surprisingly rude, it's likely social media which will hopefully be banned one day. the bible says they will act "proud." and "boastful." which we can definitely see in the newer generations a lot more. And also the bible says that many will turn away from the faith and as we can see in these days if we tried to talk about Jesus people won't be happy. so yes I have a feeling the last days are upon us. have a good day/night, amen

You have observed rightly that the Apostle in his second letter to Timothy does set forth the perilous times that shall come in the last days, and though the very word rude is not there, the thing itself is plainly included in what is there written.

When men become lovers of their own selves, boasters, proud, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, fierce, despisers of those that are good, heady and highminded, what will follow but a want of common courtesy and a contempt for the Golden Rule. Rudeness is but selfishness made visible. It is pride forgetting to be civil, and unthankfulness forgetting to be kind. Our Lord taught us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us, and when love waxes cold that rule is soon disobeyed.

You note that you have seen more of this in late years than in the generation before. It has ever been so that sin when it ripens becomes more open. There were horrible days in the time of the Judges when every man did that which was right in his own eyes, and horrible days under the Roman emperors when vice reeked in every street, yet the Lord did not sweep away the race as in the days of Noah. So now iniquity abounds and many are carried away, but God still knows the days of the upright, both their bright days and their dark days, and He will deal with His own people as He dealt with Israel of old, making His own to go forth like sheep and guiding them near to Himself in fellowship.

Do not think it strange that you must go through Vanity Fair and bear the jeer and the jibe of the mocking mob. Our great Captain has suffered the same and more, and He can sympathize with you because He has suffered, and must sympathize because He still suffers with His people. You can bear all this while you have communion with Him. God is light and in Him is no darkness at all, and He can have no fellowship with darkness or with misrepresentation. If we walk in the light with Him our condition will tally with His Word, we shall see sin in ourselves and daily feel the blood of Jesus Christ cleansing us therefrom, and we shall have no desire to walk after the manners of those who love darkness.

Therefore keep yourself distinct from that spirit. You must be in the same world with such people, but go not into their society by your own choice nor seek your pleasure with them. Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what communion has light with darkness and what concord has Christ with Belial. Let your communion be with Christ by personal union with Him. Speak with Him in prayer and let Him speak with you through the Word, and in meditation and thanksgiving keep closer converse with Him than even with wife or child. Some have found that fellowship deeper than any earthly friendship, and it will keep you from returning rudeness for rudeness.

Do not be discouraged though you feel yourself to be among the last and the least in a proud generation. God measures not as man measures, and a low idea of self is one of the marks of His best possessions. Do not be carried away with the fear of man's opinion. Pray for those who deal rudely with you, that they might yet be called His people who were not His people, and that He who pardons iniquity and heals our sicknesses might have mercy upon them. And for yourself, ask the Lord to keep you honest in your dealing with Him, walking in the light, showing the same grace to others that you have received, until He brings His people to that place of rest where no rudeness shall ever enter, but where the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations.
