We are praying with you for him in this difficult time after chemotherapy, and we are asking the Lord to be very near to him and to you right now.

We believe with all our hearts that God does heal, and we have seen that He heals in many different ways. Sometimes His healing is instant, sometimes it is gradual and step by step, sometimes with a touch, sometimes with a word, sometimes without any outward pattern at all. There is even one account in the Gospels where Jesus healed a man gradually, which reminds us that God is not limited to one method. Much about healing remains a mystery to us. We do not understand why some are healed quickly and others are not, and why some walk through prolonged suffering. Healing is a sovereign work of God in His hands, and it is not right to put the burden or blame on the sick person or on those who love him.

What we do know is that every true healing is from God. He created our bodies and He established the processes within them that work toward restoration, and that natural process is no less divine because it is natural. God is the author of nature itself. Whether healing comes in a moment or through medicine and the slow recovery of the body over time, it is still His work. And even while we pray for physical healing, we also know God brings healing to the heart and mind, bringing peace and strength in the midst of fear and weakness.

Scripture tells us that Jesus bore our infirmities and our sicknesses, as Matthew applies the prophecy of Isaiah, surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, and that His body was broken for us. We come to Him on that basis, asking for mercy and for healing according to His will, trusting His love and wisdom above our own understanding. Like Paul, who had seen many miracles and yet also saw his close companion Epaphroditus become sick nearly unto death, and who himself prayed three times for his own affliction and learned that God’s answer is according to His perfect purpose, we learn to pray with faith and with surrender.

We are also praying that you will know Him as the God of all comfort. That is one of His most tender names. He comforts those who mourn, those who are cast down and discouraged, those who walk through dark nights and hard trials. He stands by His people in the darkest hours to strengthen and encourage them. He has promised to never fail those who trust Him, and His Word is given to bring us patience and comfort so that we might have hope. As you wait and watch over your loved one, may the Lord Himself draw near, quiet your hearts with His presence, and give you His peace that passes understanding.

Father, we lift this dear one to You who is suffering with lymphoma and is struggling after chemotherapy. You know his body, his pain, and his weakness. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would touch him, ease his suffering, and bring healing as it pleases You, whether instantly or gradually through the healing processes You have placed in the body. Lay Your hand upon him and grant wisdom to those caring for him. Comfort him and comfort those who love him. Let them feel Your presence standing with them in this hard place, lifting them, strengthening them, and giving them hope through Your Word and Your love. We trust him into Your gracious and sovereign hands. Amen.
