I am having surgery on my left eye which has a retina detachment. Please guide the surgeons and help me restore mysight in my left eye. In Jesus, and the saints I pray Amen

We come before the throne of grace with your request, lifting up your left eye and the surgery you are about to undergo. First, we must address an important matter in your prayer. While we understand the sentiment behind invoking the saints, Scripture is clear that we are to pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ alone. There is no other mediator between God and man but Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5). It is through His name alone that we have access to the Father, and it is by His name alone that we are saved (Acts 4:12). We encourage you to direct your prayers to God through Jesus Christ, for He is our advocate and the only way to the Father (John 14:6).

Now, let us lift your surgery before the Lord with faith and trust in His healing power. Heavenly Father, we thank You for the skill and wisdom You have given to surgeons and medical professionals. We ask that You guide the hands of those who will be operating on ###'s left eye. Grant them precision, clarity, and steadfast focus as they work to reattach the retina. Lord, we know that You are the Great Physician, and we ask for Your healing touch to restore sight to this eye. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard ###'s heart and mind as they go through this procedure (Philippians 4:7).

We declare Your promises over this situation, Lord. You have said in Your Word that by Your stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we claim that healing for ### today. We trust in Your power to restore what has been broken and to bring light where there has been darkness. Father, we also ask that You comfort ### during this time. Ease any anxiety or fear, and fill them with Your perfect peace. Remind them that You are with them every step of the way, and that You will never leave nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Lord, we also pray for a smooth recovery after the surgery. Protect the eye from infection or complications, and grant ### patience and strength as they heal. May this experience draw them closer to You, deepening their trust in Your goodness and sovereignty. We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer and for Your faithfulness to answer according to Your will. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to hold fast to God’s promises during this time. The Lord is near to those who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18), and He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Trust in Him, lean not on your own understanding, and in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). You are not alone in this journey, God is with you, and we stand with you in prayer.

We’re holding you before the Father as you face this surgery. The thought of something happening to our vision can feel so exposing, so much of how we navigate the world runs through our eyes. It’s completely normal to be unsettled, and we want you to know you don’t carry that weight alone.

A lot of the anxiety around a procedure like this comes from the sheer helplessness we feel once they wheel us in. But we’re reminded that the same God who formed those eyes and knows every fragile part of the retina will be present in that operating room. We’re praying for steady hands and clear minds for your surgical team, and for the kind of peace that doesn’t always make logical sense but settles deep in your spirit.

One simple thing that can help: before you go in, have someone you trust, a family member, a friend from church, a pastor, pray with you out loud, right there in pre-op if they’re allowed. It often turns that nervous energy into a reminder that you’re surrounded by believers who are with you in spirit even if they can’t be in the room. And after surgery, be honest with your care team about any discomfort or unusual symptoms; advocating for your own recovery is part of stewarding the body God gave you.

Lord Jesus, we lift up Your child who is about to undergo retina surgery. Hold them steady. Guide the surgeons with precision and wisdom beyond their training. Calm every anxious thought and bring a deep awareness of Your nearness. We ask for a successful procedure and the best possible healing for that left eye, but more than anything, we trust Your good purposes, whatever the outcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Those who have known the joy of being restored after a fall, whether of soul or of body, have a tender word for others in their hour of need. And so the eye must be set, as a bone that was broken and is now made stronger than before. The heavenly Surgeon’s hand is sure, and He does not fumble with the knife. He who set this world in its orbit and giveth sight to the blind can guide the hands of those who practice the lower surgery. Courage may snap for a season, but when it is set by mercy, it becomes the strongest part of the frame. Your present lot is not a stone, though it seem hard; it is the appointed path from the Lord, and you have asked guidance and shall have it.

And yet the saints? There is only one Prevailing Intercessor before the throne, and it is He whose look melted Peter’s heart and brought him out into the night to weep bitterly. The effectual prayer was His: “I have prayed for thee.” It was not the merit of Peter, nor the entreaties of angels, but the word of the Beloved of the Father that secured his restoration. Blot out, then, any thought of another mediator, even as the blood of that one Savior blots out sin. For it is by His stripes we are healed, whether the wound be in the soul or in the delicate fabric of the eye.

It is well to remember that walking by faith is the ordinary road for all the Lord’s redeemed. You want to see, you are pining for something which is practically the same as sight, but your Lord may not give you what you childishly crave just yet. We must wait for the blessing of sight till the blessed by-and-by, in the land of the hereafter. But just now it will be quite enough to fill us to the very brim with joy if we can take in the full meaning of this: you have asked Providential care and you have obtained it. The sure result of this present guidance is that afterward He will receive you to glory, where eyes shall never dim nor retina detach again.

Meanwhile, do not demand clear arguments to answer every objection of fear. That is no trust at all; it is sight. Bravely trust Him when you see not the outcome, for He well deserves to be believed. Loss of sight, even a temporary threat of it, deserves our sympathy, but what mourning would suffice for those who have eyes that see not the goodness of God in every trial? The sight of this trial has a way of making us wiser, more humble, and more firm in our grip upon Christ. Let the surgeon’s knife be as the Lord’s own look, full of purpose and love. Bow with submission to His will; by that very fact you are furnished with unerring guidance. Haste is the author of much mischief, but quiet resting in the Great Physician’s care is the highway to peace.

Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. You are undergoing surgery to repair the detachment of your left eye, and you ask for guidance for the surgeons and the restoration of your sight. What shall I say, then, but that you should first seek the health of your soul? For if that eye of the body is restored, yet your inward eye remains darkened by sin, what profit will it be? The light of the body is the eye, but the light of the soul is the mind; if that mind is dimmed by covetousness, envy, or any evil, your whole life will be full of darkness.

Therefore, while the physicians tend your bodily eye, tend thou the eye of thy soul. Pluck out every evil thought, cast away every beam of sin that blinds thee, and fix thy gaze upon heavenly things, not upon the smoke and dust of this world. For it is not the eye of flesh that truly sees, but the mind; and if thou lookest with a pure and chaste eye, thy whole body shall be full of light. Do not seek a sign in this surgery, as if God must prove Himself, but rather trust in His mercy.

Remember the paralytic who waited thirty-eight years, yet Christ asked, “Wilt thou be made whole?” He tests thy perseverance likewise. Offer thy prayer to the Lord Jesus alone, for He is the true Physician of both body and soul. And if thy sight be restored, use it not for idle or lustful glances, but to behold the works of God and to do good. Should it please the Lord that thou remain with one eye, let not thy heart be troubled; for it is better to enter the Kingdom with one eye than with two to be cast into darkness.

I will pray that the surgeons’ hands may be guided, but above all, that thy soul may be enlightened by faith and a blameless life, so that when the light of Christ shines within thee, no physical blindness can truly harm thee.
