Restore Our 1st Love Rev 2:4, Mk 12:30-31, 1 Cor 14:1, Extra Grace to Pray, Study, Worship, Put away Distractions, "Choose the Better Part" as Mary, Luke 10:41-42, Naturally Edifying the Church, Sharing The Gospel, Make Disciples, "Do The Things We Did at First" Rev 2:5... Father, thank You for Your great love, for "We love because You first loved us," 1 Jn 4:19. We ask for a restoration of our first love, Rev 2:4. Help us "repent and do the things we did at first," Rev 2:5, i.e., when we were first saved [1]. Extra grace to pray (in The Holy Spirit) & study the Bible so we can learn His Word and extra grace to pray so we can share the Truth filled with "Power from on high," Acts 1:8, The Holy Spirit, His fruit, Gal 5:22-23, and gifts, 1 Cor 14:1-2, and holiness. Help us "Make Disciples, baptize (live) and teach obedience to all Christ taught, Matt 28:19-20. Protect us from distractions, sin and the evil one, Matt 6:13. Give extra grace and discipline to dig in deeply over this summer and throughout all our Lives. Let us "choose the best part "as Mary, who "listened to Jesus' Teaching in a posture of humility," Luke 10:40-41, which The Lord promised would not be taken away, Luke 10:42. Thank You so much for Your love, Holy is Your Name, in Jesus' Name.

We join you in this beautiful cry to the Lord to restore our first love, and we say amen to your prayer for extra grace to pray, to study, to worship, and to put away distractions and choose the better part as Mary did.

We are encouraged by your heart after God, for this is the very thing He desires from us. The Lord said in Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you left your first love. And then He graciously shows the way back in Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works. We hear in your request that repentance and a return to doing the things we did at first when we were first saved, and we agree that this is the path to restoration. It is not striving in our own strength, but returning to Him who first loved us, for as you prayed, 1 Jn 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

We love how you have anchored this in the greatest commandment, Mark 12:30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. Mark 12:31 The second is like this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. When our love for Him is restored, love for others and zeal for His work flows naturally. And we agree with you for that greater grace to seek Him. The Lord Jesus Himself affirmed Mary's choice in Luke 10:41 Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, Luke 10:42 but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her. In a world full of distractions and many things that pull at our attention, we too need grace to lay aside every weight and choose to sit at His feet, to listen to His teaching in humility, to pray in the Holy Spirit, and to dig deeply into His Word.

We also hear your heart to be filled with power from on high to naturally edify the church and share the gospel and make disciples. We pray with you for this, for Acts 1:8 says But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me, and 1 Cor 14:1 says Follow after love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts. We want love to be our motive and to bear the fruit of the Spirit described in Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:23 gentleness, and self-control, and to walk in holiness as we obey the great commission in Matt 28:19 Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Let us pray together.

Father, we thank You for Your great love for us and that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. We thank You that You first loved us and drew us to Yourself. Lord, we confess that we have often allowed distractions, busyness, sin, and the cares of this life to dull our love for You, and we repent and turn back to You. Restore to us the joy of our salvation and light again the fire that once burned bright and clear. Give us, we pray, extra grace and holy discipline to pray, to study Your Word, to worship You in spirit and in truth, and to put away everything that hinders us. Teach us to choose the good part that will not be taken away, to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His voice. Fill us anew with Your Holy Spirit, with power from on high, with Your fruit and Your gifts and with holiness, so that we may naturally edify the body of Christ, share the truth of the gospel with boldness and love, and make disciples who obey all that You have taught. Protect us, Father, and bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, Matt 6:13. Give us grace to dig in deeply over this summer and throughout all our lives, to love You with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to do the first works again for Your glory. We ask this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our first love, amen.

We hear the hunger in your prayer to return to your first love for Jesus. That desire itself is a gift, and we want to stand with you in it this summer and beyond.

We have found that love for God grows not by trying harder to feel something, but by giving Him our attention again. Worship is one way that happens. When we turn to praise Him for who He is, we are reminded what we truly love and what has been crowding that love out. It lifts our eyes off ourselves and our distractions and puts God back on the throne in our daily perspective, which then shapes how we see our circumstances and our call to share His goodness with others.

A simple next step that has helped many is to protect one unhurried space each day to be with the Lord before other demands intrude, choosing that better part as Mary did, even if it is just twenty minutes with the Word and prayer, phones put aside, and then to keep showing up for weekly worship with God's people even when feelings are flat. Consistency in those small choices often rekindles affection more than waiting for affection to return.

Father, thank You for first loving us so fully. Rekindle in our brother or sister that bright early love for You, give grace for prayer and for hearing Your Word, guard against distraction and the evil one, and make their life a quiet witness that naturally builds up others and draws them to Jesus. The cry you have lifted for the restoration of your first love is one which the Lord delights to hear, for He Himself says, I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals. He does not forget your first prayers, your first praises, your first tears over sin, and He takes infinite delight in them, like as a father pities his children.

To decline from that first love is a sorrowful thing, and it comes most often, as we have often seen, by neglecting communion with Christ. When we were in our first love what would we do for Christ, and now how little will we do. Then love being fervent we had sweet liberty at the throne of grace, we were compelled to have time for prayer, and the Word was our delight. When that communion is neglected, the lamp burns low.

Yet the remedy is gracious and plain, and you have named it rightly from Revelation. Remember, repent, and do the things thou didst at first. Go back continually to first principles, and to the great foundation stone, the cross of Christ, and you shall be led back to your first love. Christ first, me last, nothing between but love. Who loved me and gave Himself for me. Let that blessed fact be remembered and rejoiced in anew, for it is a divine love, an ancient love, an eternal love, and when the soul sees again that He loved me and gave Himself for me, love is rekindled.

You ask for extra grace to pray in the Holy Spirit and to study the Word, to worship and to put away distractions, to choose the better part as Mary did. This is the very way of return. Mary sat at Jesus feet and heard His word in a posture of humility, and that part shall not be taken away. Martha was cumbered with much serving, but one thing is needful. To sit at His feet, to listen, to pray, to learn His Word, this is to have love nourished. For love to God is nourished as we see how He has heard our voice and our supplication from the first prayer we ever prayed for mercy to this day. Stand upon the hill top of present experience and look back, and you will find motives enough to love Him, for we love Him because He first loved us.

So we will pray with you and for you.

Father, we thank Thee for Thy great love wherewith Thou hast loved us in Christ Jesus Thy Son. We confess that we have left our first love, and we ask Thee to restore it. Give us grace to repent and to do the first works. Pour upon us extra grace and holy discipline to pray and to study the Scriptures, to worship Thee in spirit and in truth, and to put away every distraction and every sin which would draw us away. Keep us from the evil one and lead us not into temptation. Teach us to choose the better part, to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His teaching, and to be filled with power from on high by Thy Holy Spirit, that we may bear His fruit in holiness and walk in love, and be made useful to edify Thy church, to share the gospel, and to make disciples, baptizing and teaching obedience to all that Christ has commanded. Light again the fire that once burned bright and clear, and let the lamp of our first love burn with holy fear and joyful love, for Thine is the kingdom and the glory.
