Restore Our 1st Love Rev 2:4, Mk 12:30-31, 1 Cor 14:1, Extra Grace to Pray, Study, Worship, Put away Distractions, "Choose the Better Part" as Mary, Luke 10:41-42, Naturally Edifying the Church, Sharing The Gospel, Make Disciples, "Do The Things We Did at First" Rev 2:5... Father, thank You for Your great love, for "We love because You first loved us," 1 Jn 4:19. We ask for a restoration of our first love, Rev 2:4. Help us "repent and do the things we did at first," Rev 2:5, i.e., when we were first saved [1]. Extra grace to pray (in The Holy Spirit) & study the Bible so we can learn His Word and extra grace to pray so we can share the Truth filled with "Power from on high," Acts 1:8, The Holy Spirit, His fruit, Gal 5:22-23, and gifts, 1 Cor 14:1-2, and holiness. Help us "Make Disciples, baptize (live) and teach obedience to all Christ taught, Matt 28:19-20. Protect us from distractions, sin and the evil one, Matt 6:13. Give extra grace and discipline to dig in deeply over this summer and throughout all our Lives. Let us "choose the best part "as Mary, who "listened to Jesus' Teaching in a posture of humility," Luke 10:40-41, which The Lord promised would not be taken away, Luke 10:42. Thank You so much for Your love, Holy is Your Name, in Jesus' Name.

We join you wholeheartedly in this cry for the restoration of our first love and we are encouraged by the hunger in your prayer to love the Lord more deeply and to walk in greater grace and discipline.

The Lord Jesus spoke so tenderly and so searchingly to the church when He said in Rev 2:4 that you have left your first love and in Rev 2:5 remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works. That first love is not merely emotion but a wholehearted devotion, the love described in Mark 12:30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength and in Mark 12:31 to love your neighbor as yourself. When that love grows cold we are called to remember, to repent, and to return to the simple things we did at first when we were first saved, the eager prayer, the hunger for the Word, the joy in worship, the zeal to share Christ.

We agree with you for extra grace to pray in the Holy Spirit and to study the Scriptures diligently, for it is the Word that washes us and the Spirit who empowers us. As you prayed, we desire to follow after love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts as it says in 1 Cor 14:1, not for display but to naturally edify the church and to share the gospel with power from on high as promised in Acts 1:8 you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be my witnesses. We ask the Lord to bear in us the fruit of the Spirit described in Gal 5:22 but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control, and to keep us in holiness as we also seek His gifts for the building up of others, for teaching and for making disciples as Jesus commanded in Matt 28:19 Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and in Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you.

We also join you in asking for protection from distractions, from sin and from the evil one, as Jesus taught us to pray in Matt 6:13 bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. There are so many voices and cares that choke the Word and pull us from the better part. We are reminded of Martha and Mary, where Jesus said in Luke 10:41 Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things and in Luke 10:42 but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her. We want to choose that good part with you, to sit at the feet of Jesus in humility, listening to His teaching, worshiping, praying and putting away what distracts, not only for a summer but for all our lives.

We know this love is only possible because He first loved us, as it says in 1 John 4:19 we love him, because he first loved us, and it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. We thank God that you have come in Jesus name, for there is no other way.

We pray together now, Father, thank You for Your great love and for drawing us to Yourself. Restore to us the joy of our first love. Forgive us where we have grown cold, distracted, or lukewarm, and lead us to repent and do the first works again. Pour out extra grace upon us to pray, to study Your Word, to worship in spirit and in truth, and to put away every distraction and sin that hinders us. Fill us with power from on high by Your Holy Spirit, form His fruit in our character and release His gifts through us to edify Your church. Make us faithful to share the truth, to proclaim the gospel, and to make disciples, baptizing and teaching obedience to all that Christ commanded. Guard us from temptation and deliver us from the evil one, and give us discipline to dig deeply into Your Word and Your presence day by day. Help us to choose the good part as Mary did, to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen, knowing it will not be taken away. Light again the fire that once burned bright and clear and let the lamp of our first love burn with holy reverence for You. We ask all this in the holy and mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how much you want to come back to that simple, close love for Jesus you knew at the beginning, and to give Him your best attention again this summer. That desire itself is a gift, and we are grateful to stand with you in it.

One thought that has helped many of us is to think of prayer, worship and time in the Word more like training than trying. Like preparing for a long race, it is not about one intense effort but small, regular steps over time that slowly shape us. Even a brief, consistent time set apart can bear fruit over months and years, and it keeps us from feeling we have failed when we cannot do everything at once.

If it helps, you might choose one workable rhythm for these summer weeks rather than several at once. Perhaps a short, set time each day to be with the Lord without distraction, and putting one specific distraction aside for this season, and inviting one other believer to walk that rhythm with you for encouragement and accountability. That shared life often makes it more natural to encourage the church and share the hope you are receiving.

Father, thank You for first loving us. We ask You to gently restore and deepen our love for You. Give grace to seek You faithfully, to listen to Your voice and to walk in obedience, and keep us from distraction and discouragement. Form us more into the likeness of Christ day by day. Your prayer for the restoration of your first love is a prayer which the Lord delights to hear and to answer, for we love Him because He first loved us, 1 John 4:19.

The Lord Himself says, I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, Jeremiah 2:2. God remembers with grace the best things of our early days, our first faith, our first love, our first zeal. As a mother treasures the first lisping words of her child, so the Lord treasures your first prayers, your first praises, your first turning from sin. Though you may look back with sorrow that the fire does not burn so brightly now, He has not forgotten that glorious hour when first you saw the Lord and spiritual life quickened your dead soul.

Yet the word to Ephesus remains needful for us all, Thou hast left thy first love, Revelation 2:4. How did we lose it. In part by neglecting communion with Christ, in part by leaving our first works. When we were in our first love what would we do for Christ, now how little will we do. When we leave our first works there is no question about having lost our first love, that is sure. Therefore the counsel is, Remember, repent, and do the things thou didst at first, Revelation 2:5. Go back continually to first principles and to the great foundation stone, the cross of Christ, and you shall be led back to your first love.

You have asked well for extra grace to pray, to study, and to worship, and to put away distractions and choose the better part as Mary did, who sat at Jesus feet and heard His word, Luke 10:39-42. That part shall not be taken away from her. Be much in prayer. Prayer makes the Christian's armor bright. Enter your closet and be not hired out of it for a thousand worlds. Let prayer be your first resource, not your last. And let the Word be sought with the same earnestness, that you may learn His Word and be filled with power from on high, Acts 1:8, bearing the fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23, walking in holiness, and earnestly desiring spiritual gifts that you may edify the church, 1 Corinthians 14:1, and make disciples, baptizing and teaching obedience to all that Christ has commanded, Matthew 28:19-20.

I pray for you that the Savior who labored in love even unto Gethsemane and the cross, and who now rests in His love having won the victory, may solace Himself in your love and cause your love to abound again. May He keep you from sin and the evil one, Matthew 6:13, and give you discipline and grace to dig deeply into the Scriptures this summer and throughout all your lives. May your faith work by love, without fear, with holy receptiveness to Christ, that you may be as John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, who leaned upon His breast and then was fitted to behold His glory.

May the Lord light again the fire that once burned bright and clear, and restore the lamp of your first love that burned with holy fear, that you may love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength, Mark 12:30, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Father, hear this prayer. Thou hast heard the first prayer for mercy when sin was blotted out, and Thou hast heard multitudes of prayers since. Hear now and nourish love in these hearts. Quicken them again, draw them to the closet, to the Word, to the feet of Jesus. Grant repentance and the doing of first works, and let the better part be chosen this day and all days, to Thy glory, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who loved us and gave Himself for us. Amen.
