We hear the deep sorrow and regret in your heart and we grieve with you over these years that feel wasted, and we thank you for your honest warning to others about the powerful addiction of short form content and endless internet consumption. It truly can become like a drug that steals time, attention, and purpose, and we commend you for recognizing this and turning to God with such earnestness. We want to pray with you and share what Scripture says about time, restoration, and the pain you are carrying.
First, we gently want to address the way you are hurting yourself when you feel anger and despair. We understand that the regret feels unbearable and has brought you to tears for months, but scratching yourself is not God's will for you. Your body is precious to Him. For you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. The Lord wants to heal your hurt, not to see you wound yourself. He is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. If these feelings of deep depression and self harm continue, we urge you to reach out right away to a trusted pastor, godly counselor, or mature believer in person for help and accountability, and to not walk through this alone.
We also hear your prayer that God would literally give you each wasted second back and make this year feel many times longer, as if time itself would be stretched. We serve a sovereign God who is outside of time and for whom nothing is impossible, yet Scripture teaches us to seek His restoration in a slightly different way than demanding that He manipulate the clock. What God promises is to redeem and restore what was lost. I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, Joel 2:25. And Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil, Ephesians 5:15-16. So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom, Psalm 90:12. God does not necessarily add literal days to the calendar, but He can redeem your time by giving you wisdom, focus, energy, and fruitfulness in the days ahead, so that the purpose you missed can still be fulfilled for His glory. He can make your future years far more effective than you imagine, as we trust His grace rather than trying to earn back every second.
We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find forgiveness for wasted years and all our sin. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, and you will be forgiven and made new. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. His grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and He can carry the burden of regret you cannot bear alone. Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, Philippians 4:6-7.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, lifting up this dear one who is weeping over wasted time and feeling crushed by regret and addiction. Lord, forgive the years spent in distraction and pour out Your mercy and grace. We ask that You heal the deep sadness and take away the urge to harm the body You created. Replace self anger with Your peace and comfort. Lord, You promise to restore the years the locusts have eaten, so we ask that You redeem this time. Teach this dear one to number their days and to walk wisely, redeeming the time. Grant discipline to turn away from endless content, grant focus, clarity, and strength to work diligently for Your glory, and grant fruitfulness that is far beyond what they could do in their own strength. Help them to not live in the past with shame, but to know they are a new creation in Christ, and that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. Give them a supportive community, accountability, and joy in spending time with family and in Your presence rather than on the internet. Let them feel Your nearness and know that You hear their cries. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, Amen.
We encourage you to take practical steps as God answers this prayer. Bring your internet use into the light with fasting, setting strict boundaries, removing apps that trap you, placing your devices in open areas, and seeking daily fellowship and accountability with other believers. Fill that redeemed time with prayer, Scripture, work done heartily as for the Lord, Colossians 3:23, and serving others. Trust that God is not counting your wasted seconds against you when you are in Christ, but is inviting you into a purposeful future. He can make what remains far more meaningful than what was lost.
