Restore actual time

I wasted a lot of time on the internet. For the past ### years I spent ### years wasting my time consuming content (I calculated it). I was severly addicted to content. (If you have kids, dont give them phones, dont let them watch shortform content. Its like a drug. Most people just haven't realized. Spent time with your family, rather then watching someelse ones on the internet.) I want God to now give me each wasted second back. So that this year is like ### days long for me personally. I dont just want to the outcome I could have accomplished but the actual time given back. I have been crying so much for the past few months, i just cant bear it. I keep scratching myself out of anger. Its just so depressing. Please pray that god gives me my time back, that I will things ### x faster, as if I never wasted any time. I know that god can manipulate time, so please pray that he gives me each wasted second back to my days.

We hear the deep sorrow and regret in your heart and we grieve with you over these years that feel wasted, and we thank you for your honest warning to others about the powerful addiction of short form content and endless internet consumption. It truly can become like a drug that steals time, attention, and purpose, and we commend you for recognizing this and turning to God with such earnestness. We want to pray with you and share what Scripture says about time, restoration, and the pain you are carrying.

First, we gently want to address the way you are hurting yourself when you feel anger and despair. We understand that the regret feels unbearable and has brought you to tears for months, but scratching yourself is not God's will for you. Your body is precious to Him. For you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. The Lord wants to heal your hurt, not to see you wound yourself. He is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. If these feelings of deep depression and self harm continue, we urge you to reach out right away to a trusted pastor, godly counselor, or mature believer in person for help and accountability, and to not walk through this alone.

We also hear your prayer that God would literally give you each wasted second back and make this year feel many times longer, as if time itself would be stretched. We serve a sovereign God who is outside of time and for whom nothing is impossible, yet Scripture teaches us to seek His restoration in a slightly different way than demanding that He manipulate the clock. What God promises is to redeem and restore what was lost. I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, Joel 2:25. And Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil, Ephesians 5:15-16. So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom, Psalm 90:12. God does not necessarily add literal days to the calendar, but He can redeem your time by giving you wisdom, focus, energy, and fruitfulness in the days ahead, so that the purpose you missed can still be fulfilled for His glory. He can make your future years far more effective than you imagine, as we trust His grace rather than trying to earn back every second.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find forgiveness for wasted years and all our sin. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, and you will be forgiven and made new. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. His grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and He can carry the burden of regret you cannot bear alone. Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, Philippians 4:6-7.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, lifting up this dear one who is weeping over wasted time and feeling crushed by regret and addiction. Lord, forgive the years spent in distraction and pour out Your mercy and grace. We ask that You heal the deep sadness and take away the urge to harm the body You created. Replace self anger with Your peace and comfort. Lord, You promise to restore the years the locusts have eaten, so we ask that You redeem this time. Teach this dear one to number their days and to walk wisely, redeeming the time. Grant discipline to turn away from endless content, grant focus, clarity, and strength to work diligently for Your glory, and grant fruitfulness that is far beyond what they could do in their own strength. Help them to not live in the past with shame, but to know they are a new creation in Christ, and that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. Give them a supportive community, accountability, and joy in spending time with family and in Your presence rather than on the internet. Let them feel Your nearness and know that You hear their cries. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps as God answers this prayer. Bring your internet use into the light with fasting, setting strict boundaries, removing apps that trap you, placing your devices in open areas, and seeking daily fellowship and accountability with other believers. Fill that redeemed time with prayer, Scripture, work done heartily as for the Lord, Colossians 3:23, and serving others. Trust that God is not counting your wasted seconds against you when you are in Christ, but is inviting you into a purposeful future. He can make what remains far more meaningful than what was lost.

We are so glad you wrote to us, and we hear how heavy this feels. To look back and calculate years lost to endless scrolling, to carry so much regret and tears for months, and to be scratching yourself out of anger, that is a lot to bear alone. Thank you for letting us pray with you in it.

What you describe about short form content makes sense. Like other addictions it can offer quick escape and pleasure in the moment, then take more control than we intended and leave us feeling empty and stuck. Wanting God to literally stretch this year to give every second back shows how deeply you wish you could undo what was lost. God does not promise to lengthen our days that way, but He is able to redeem what remains and to give new purpose and wisdom for the days ahead, and He often does that work through other people walking with us.

For the distress and the scratching you mentioned, please consider talking soon with a doctor, counselor or trusted pastor alongside prayer, not instead of it. You do not have to sort this out by yourself.

One gentle next step could be to tell one trusted person this week honestly what you shared here, how the internet use has taken hold and how low you have been feeling, and ask them to stay connected with you as you seek support.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. You see every tear and every moment of regret. Bring comfort, safety, and steady help around them. Give wisdom to those who support them, loosen the grip of this addiction, and lead them day by day into healing, hope and a renewed use of the time You give. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is a great heaviness in your confession, and it is good that you have brought it into the light before the Lord. The sorrow you feel over wasted years is not unknown to the saints of old. Job looked back and mourned the days when the candle of the Lord shone upon his head, and many a soul since has cried, Oh that it were with me as in months past. Such regret, when it leads us to self examination and to Christ, is not without profit, for it teaches us our need of grace and makes us watchful for the time to come.

You have seen rightly that time given to endless content is time lost, and that the soul is ensnared when it gives itself to that which does not feed it. Much time is wasted in this age upon that which amounts to nothing, and the habit fastens like a chain. Grace, when it comes, makes a man to hate his chains and to long for liberty, and Christ has come to bring freedom to the captive. He does not leave His lost sheep in the jaws of the lion, but breaks the teeth of the oppressor and brings them home.

Yet concerning time itself, the Scripture does not teach us to ask that God would lengthen our days by adding literal seconds or make a year to contain more days than He has ordained. Our Lord teaches us that He does not reward according to time spent or surface covered, for some who come late may yet bring great honor to their Master, and the last may be first. What the Lord does promise is more precious still, that He will redeem the time and restore the years which the locust has eaten, not by turning back the clock, but by making what remains fruitful, by pardoning what is past through the blood of Christ, and by teaching us to walk wisely and to redeem the time in the days He yet gives us. If a man has neglected his business and lost his trade, it profits him nothing to abide in regret alone. He must, by grace, become diligent in the present.

Your grief has brought you to tears and to harming yourself out of anger, and this must be met with tenderness and care. You are not beyond hope, nor are you locked in an iron cage of despair where Christ cannot find you. He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, He was despised and rejected that He might save the lost, and the time of faith is the time of comfort. Do not strike your own flesh, which is the workmanship of God. If these thoughts press heavily upon you, I entreat you to open your heart at once to a faithful pastor, to a godly friend or family member near you, and to seek help from those who can walk with you daily. To bring trouble to Gods feet in prayer each day is the way of peace, and to walk in the light with other believers is a safeguard for the soul.

Therefore seek the Lord not for a miracle of added hours, but for a renewed heart. Ask Him to forgive the waste that is past, for in Christ there is full pardon where sin is sought for and there shall be none. Ask Him to set Caution and Self examination at the helm of your life, to help you put away the snare that has entangled you, to keep your body in good repair, and to give you grace to spend your strength upon what endures. Put far from you the instruments of this addiction as much as you are able, give yourself to prayer, to the Word, to useful labor, and to time spent with your family in the fear of the Lord, for there is more joy in one hour of fellowship with Christ and with those He has given you than in years of vanity.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord our God, who dwells among Thy people and art their God, have mercy upon this sorrowing soul. Thou hast seen the tears and heard the cry of a heart that mourns wasted time. Forgive, for Christs sake, all that is past, and let the debt be remembered no more, since Christ has paid it. Break the power of this bondage and bring this captive out of prison. Give a hatred for the chains and a love for liberty. Heal the wounded spirit, take away the impulse to harm the body, and grant quietness and a sound mind. Teach this soul to redeem the time, to walk circumspectly, to number his days and apply his heart unto wisdom, and to find in Thee the fountain of life and peace. Restore not by adding days to the calendar, but by making the days to come full of fruit unto Thy glory, that what remains may be spent for Christ. Keep this soul abiding under the shadow of the Almighty, and let Thy truth be his shield and buckler. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior we ask it. Amen.

Your honesty about wasted time and the pain it has caused is heard, and I thank you for bringing this burden into the light. The grief and tears you describe, and the anger that leads you to scratch yourself, show how deeply you feel this loss. It is understandable to mourn years spent bound to endless content, and God sees that sorrow.

Scripture speaks of two kinds of sorrow. One kind harms us, it turns inward, condemns us without hope, and drives us to hurt ourselves. The other is godly sorrow, which looks honestly at what has happened and turns toward God for mercy and for a new way forward. That godly sorrow does not end in endless regret, but works repentance that leads to life and peace. Your groaning that you have not lived as you wished can become, by God's grace, not a weight that crushes you but a turning point that draws you to Him. He does not want you to punish your own body in anger. Your body is made by Him and you are called to treat it with care, and that anger itself, like a fierce master, can quickly do great harm if left unchecked. Learning self control with God's help, and seeking help from others when anger rises, is part of healing.

You asked that God would make time itself longer for you, giving back each second literally and making this year many times longer. God is the Maker of time and He is able to do all things, but He has not promised to stretch our days on the clock or to undo the calendar. What He has promised is to redeem time. The Bible says to redeem the time because the days are difficult, and it speaks of God restoring the years that have been eaten away, not by adding hours to a day, but by giving new fruitfulness, wisdom and purpose to the days ahead. He cannot give you back the past as if it never happened, but He can make your future time meaningful, useful and full of His grace, so that what was lost is not wasted forever.

That redemption happens not all at once, but little by little, like building a house. If a builder tries to lay all the stones at once before the mortar sets, the wall will be weak. If he builds carefully, layer by layer, the house becomes strong. In the same way, recovery from a long habit of consuming content comes through steady, small steps that your mind and heart can hold. Do not expect to fix everything in a day. Begin with simple, faithful practices. Dwell in the Scriptures regularly and carefully, not carelessly. Come to them with reverence, read a portion, think on it, and let it shape your thoughts. Sit under faithful teaching in church, pray honestly, and let that steady hearing slowly form a new way of living. Over time, even when you feel hard or dull, that patient hearing bears fruit.

For the practical struggle with the internet, consider concrete steps going forward rather than trying to reclaim the past. Put clear boundaries in place, keep devices out of reach at certain hours, invite a trusted pastor, family member or friend to hold you accountable, spend time with people face to face instead of watching others online, and fill your time with work that serves God and neighbor. When you feel the urge to scroll or the anger that makes you want to harm yourself, pause, pray, step away, breathe, and reach out to someone nearby.

Please do not carry this alone. The scratching and deep sadness you describe are signs that you need personal support. Talk soon with a pastor or a mature Christian you trust, and consider speaking with a counselor or medical professional who can walk with you. If you ever feel you might harm yourself more seriously, reach out immediately to someone near you or to a trusted help service in your area.

I will pray for you, not that God would lengthen the clock, but that He would do what He has promised to do. I pray that He would have mercy on you through Jesus Christ, forgive what is past, comfort your tears, heal you from the grip of this habit, give you strength to be gentle with yourself and self controlled in anger, and teach you to number your days so that you may gain a heart of wisdom. May He redeem your time going forward, make your days fruitful for His glory, and give you peace that you are loved and not abandoned, and may He surround you with people who will help you walk this new path day by day.
