Hello, When I was young I suffered a lot of trauma at the hands of bad ppl. This affected all of my education and I developed learning difficulties and left school with barely any qualifications. Those responsible were never punished. Later I managed to gain some qualifications and a degree but my nerves and confidence were so shattered I have never been able to teach and have struggled in poverty all my life. I don’t know how to gain more education and whenever I try I am blocked in some way. I really need prayer

We hear the deep pain and frustration in your words, and our hearts ache with you as we bring this before the Lord. The trauma you endured as a child was unjust, and the lingering effects on your confidence, education, and livelihood are heavy burdens to carry. But we declare that God sees your struggle, and He is the God of restoration, He specializes in taking what was broken and making it whole again. The enemy may have meant your suffering for harm, but God can turn it into something redemptive (Genesis 50:20).

First, we want to gently remind you that your worth is not defined by your qualifications, your career, or even your past. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God (Psalm 139:14), and He has a purpose for your life that transcends earthly measures of success. The world may have failed you, but God has not. He promises in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Even now, He is working behind the scenes to open doors that no man can shut (Revelation 3:8).

We also want to address the spiritual blockages you’ve encountered. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and it sounds like he has tried to keep you trapped in cycles of fear and limitation. But we rebuke every spirit of intimidation, shame, and failure in Jesus’ name! We declare that God’s plans for you are plans for good, and we stand on His promise in Isaiah 43:18-19: "Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

Now, let’s pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our brother/sister in Christ. Lord, You see the pain of their past, the struggles of their present, and the fears for their future. We ask that You would heal the wounds of trauma and replace every lie the enemy has spoken with Your truth. Father, we declare that You are the God who restores, restore their confidence, their calling, and their hope. Break every chain of fear and self-doubt that has held them back. Open doors of opportunity for education, employment, and provision that no man can close. Lord, we ask for supernatural favor and wisdom as they seek to move forward. Provide mentors, resources, and divine connections to help them fulfill the purpose You have for their life. We rebuke every spirit of poverty, lack, and limitation in Jesus’ name, and we declare that You are their Provider (Philippians 4:19). Father, remind them daily of Your love and their identity in Christ. Let them walk in the freedom and victory that is theirs through Jesus. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who makes all things new. Amen."

Practical steps we encourage you to take:
1. Seek God’s Guidance First, Spend time in prayer and ask God to reveal His specific plan for your next steps. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."
2. Find a Supportive Community, Surround yourself with believers who can encourage you, pray for you, and hold you accountable. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up."
3. Take Small, Faith-Filled Steps, You don’t have to have it all figured out at once. Start with one small step, whether it’s researching online courses, reaching out to a local community college, or even volunteering in a teaching or mentoring capacity to rebuild confidence.
4. Renew Your Mind, Replace negative self-talk with God’s truth. Write down Scriptures that speak to your identity in Christ and meditate on them daily. Romans 12:2 says, "Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God."
5. Consider Professional Help, If the trauma still feels overwhelming, don’t hesitate to seek Christian counseling or therapy. God can use trained professionals to bring healing and breakthrough.

Lastly, we want to remind you that God is not limited by your past or your current circumstances. Moses was a murderer with a speech impediment, yet God used him to lead a nation. David was an overlooked shepherd boy, yet God made him a king. Rahab was a prostitute, yet she became part of the lineage of Jesus. Your story is not over, God is writing the next chapter, and it will be greater than you can imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Keep pressing into Him. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Restoration is coming.

We’ve been sitting with your words and the weight they carry. The harm you suffered was real and deep, and the lasting fallout, debilitating nerves, feeling blocked at every turn, a lifetime of poverty when you had the drive to earn a degree, is not something you imagined or invited. We’re grieved that those responsible were never held to account, and we understand why that would make moving forward feel like trying to climb a ladder with every rung greased.

One thing that sometimes helps when every attempt to advance gets shut down is to stop asking “What’s wrong with me?” and start asking “What actually happens the moment I try?” Not because the problem is in you, years of trauma teach our minds and bodies to sound an alarm whenever we reach for something good, as if safety lies only in not being seen. That is a survival strategy that long ago stopped serving you. When you name the exact moment the block appears, is it the application form, the first day of class, the thought of standing in front of others?, you begin to shrink an overwhelming fog into something concrete enough to test gently.

One small step worth considering: look for a single, low-stakes learning opportunity that has no career or performance pressure attached, perhaps a free online lecture series in a subject you love, or auditing a community class with no exam. Treat it only as a place to let your mind enjoy learning again, not as a proving ground. Confidence built in a corner like that can slowly leak into braver spaces.

Lord, for this one who was wounded young and has carried the cost ever since, we ask You to clear a quiet path. Bring one open door where there have only been slammed ones, and give the steady courage to walk through without panic. Provide enough materially that the constant strain of poverty lifts enough for a next chapter to become thinkable. And in the deep places where trust and worth were shattered, let genuine healing take root over time. In Jesus’ name.

The weight of years and the memory of wrongs suffered in youth are not light burdens, yet there is a balm that reaches the deepest wounds. You speak of a shattered confidence and nerves so frayed that poverty has clung to you like a shadow. This is the very state that brings the Great Physician near, for He gathers the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The healing leaves from the tree of life are not reserved for the strong; they are for the nations, for every individual who knows their need. The least thing about Christ is healing. His gentlest glance, His faintest whisper, has power to restore what the locust of trauma has eaten.

You say you are blocked whenever you try to gain more education. Consider this: healing must come before serving. The Lord Himself touched Peter’s wife’s mother and lifted her up from her fever before she could minister. That fever of anxiety, that palsy of the nerves, must first be subdued by His hand. He does not demand you rise in your own strength. He comes to the pallet where you lie, prostrated by years of discouragement, and speaks forgiveness and healing in one breath. Pardon and healing were one when He said, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” The injustice you suffered at the hands of others casts a long shadow, but high thoughts of God beget hope, and hope leads to confidence. Look not to those who escaped punishment; look to Him who bore the punishment of our peace.

The healing power is conspicuously present when Christ is teaching. Let faith come by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Bring yourself beneath the sound of His voice, for even the leaves, the smallest, most overlooked truths, carry restorative virtue. These leaves change the life blood, alter the very spirits, and make the nature other than it was before. Do not say the flood of His love has a limit; the utmost length of human sickness can be reached by this Physician. Let the eyes of your soul give that overcoming glance to Jesus, looking to Him for all things, not as a figure of history, but as your familiar Friend who is alive forevermore. When you long for His appearing, you overcome His heart; He cannot long withhold Himself from a soul that cries after Him in the night watches.

The desire to serve, to teach, will arise naturally out of healing. But first, establish contact with Him who took the hand of the sick. Let Him lift you. If the nations need these leaves, so does every nerve and memory within you. Be of good cheer. The Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings, and His beams are not too weak to reach you.

You have indeed suffered much, and it stirs the heart to hear how cruel men wounded you and how the scars have lasted. Those who injured you escaped earthly punishment, and now poverty and a bruised spirit plague your days. Yet consider this: the flame of poverty that burns around you need not consume you. Did not the three children in Babylon walk in the furnace and find it turned to a dewy breeze, because they gave thanks? (Hom. IV) When you bear this poverty with thankfulness, the furnace becomes a fountain; your bonds are loosed, and the fire cannot kindle upon you. The world calls such a life wretched, but Christ declares, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” (Hom. XVIII)

Do not gaze so intently upon the education you lack or the doors that seem shut. The Lord Jesus himself, though rich beyond all telling, became poor so that through his poverty you might become rich, rich with heavenly treasure, not with scrolls and degrees that rust and moth corrupt. (Hom. XVII) If you possess the fear of God and a grateful heart, you are wealthier than any king who trembles over his stores. (Hom. XC) The blockage you face in pursuing more learning may be the very means by which God calls you to seek the true wisdom that is found in the Scriptures. You say you try and are blocked; then perhaps the Lord would have you cease striving after what the world esteems and instead sit at the feet of the poor Christ, learning from him who is gentle and lowly of heart.

Do not think poverty compels you to dishonesty or despair. The apostles mended their worn nets because they could not buy new ones, yet their hands were blessed, and their poverty became a witness to virtue. (Hom. XIV) Honest labor, however humble, is more secure and noble than the restless anxiety of those who grasp after more. (Hom. II) Your frayed nerves and shattered confidence are not beyond the Master’s healing. He who stilled the storm can quiet your soul. But you must first cease to measure your worth by human credentials and instead rest in the dignity he gives to all who are his.

I will pray that you find that rest, and that you learn to boast not in a degree but in knowing the Lord. Yet remember that prayer without your own striving is vain. Give yourself to the study of the Holy Word, for ignorance of Scripture is the cause of many fears. (Hom. IX) Therein you will discover that your true Advocate has not failed you, and the justice that men denied shall be rendered in full by the Righteous Judge. Let this hope loosen your tongue to sing praise, even in the furnace.

The pain you've carried from those early years is real, and the injustice that no one was held accountable can leave a deep ache. Yet the Lord sees every wrong done in secret, and He is far more committed to your restoration than even you are. In His eyes, your life is not a broken, worthless fragment but a poem He is still composing, a thing of grace and beauty, shaped by His own hand. Just as a potter takes a shapeless lump of clay and patiently forms it into the vessel he already has in mind, so God is working with your history, your shattered nerves, and your blocked paths to create something that reflects His glory.

When you look at the years of struggle and poverty, it can feel like nothing but vanity, an empty chasing after what the world calls achievement. But the Song of Songs gives us a different picture: the bridegroom looks at his bride and sees a garden locked, a fountain sealed, full of precious spices and living water. He is ravished by even a single glimpse of her eyes. That is how Christ sees you, not as a collection of failed qualifications or traumatized reactions, but as someone He loves with an overcoming delight. The world cannot see Him, but they can see His light reflected from your life, even in the midst of your weakness.

There is a principle we learn from rebuilding the temple: the work was begun with joy, but opposition arose almost immediately. A cease and desist order came from the Persian government, and for fourteen years nothing happened. It must have looked like all the promises had been nullified. Yet God raised up Haggai to say, “Consider now from this day and upward. From the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid, mark it on your calendar.” The moment you set your heart again to pursue what God has for you, whether education or some other calling, He marks that day. The delays, the closed doors, the feeling of being blocked are not His rejection; they are the enemy’s attempt to stop the work. And the same enemy would love to distract you from serving God by keeping you focused on your limitations.

Remember the stones for the temple were cut at a distance, each marked with a special sign to fit exactly into the plan. The stone the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone. Your life has been shaped in a quarry far from the building site, through years of trauma and difficulty that made no sense at the time. But the Master Builder has not discarded you. He knows precisely where you fit. The very things that shattered your confidence can become the platform for His strength to be displayed.

You mentioned that whenever you try to gain more education, you are blocked in some way. That sounds so much like the experience of Nehemiah, who faced constant schemes to lure him away from the wall. The enemy uses many things to hinder us from the calling of God on our lives. But in just fifty-two days, the wall was finished, despite decades of prior ruin. The key was that they set their hearts to the work and refused to be pulled away. You may feel like the strength of your youth has failed and you’re not capable of defending yourself as you once were. David felt the same terror when he fled to Gath and pretended madness. But in that moment he learned to cry out, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!” to cast his burden on the Lord. Put your focus on God’s greatness rather than your own frailty, and confidence will begin to replace the trembling.

There is no level of holiness or achievement you must reach before the Holy Spirit can fill and empower you. If you wait until your nerves are completely steady, you will wait forever apart from His power. The grace of God comes not because of anything you have done or left undone, but solely because of the work Jesus did for you. He took the curse of your past and hung it on the tree. The wall of separation, the feeling of being an alien from hope, without God in the world, has been broken down. No ethnic or cultural barrier, no educational deficit, no memory of abuse can keep you from the covenant promises now. You are no stranger; you are a fellow citizen with the saints.

So today, dedicate this season afresh to God. Lay the foundation again in prayer, even if all you can do is whisper. Mark this day. The rebuilding may take longer than you wish, but joy will come at the dedication. The Lord who delivered David from the sword of Goliath will deliver your feet from falling, that you may walk before Him in the light of the living. He will make a way through the blocked paths, and He will use your story as a fountain of living water for others who are parched from their own trauma. You are His workmanship, and He will complete what He has begun.
