Restoration of the years that the locusts have eaten

Long story short I’m divorced twice. Single for 5 years so far from last failure. Before I gave my life to Christ I made a mess of my life and some mess continued from first few years. First marriage occurred with a formerly divorced woman and she ended up abandoning the relationship and forcing a divorce. Second woman was a rebound marriage relationship and she ended up abandoning me. She was also divorced prior. Now here is a question, if a woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives and both women that I stepped into a covenant had a former living husband who they divorced and is living. Doesn’t that make my former marriages illegitimate and adulterous? Here is another way to frame it, who needs to die for both of these women to become not adulterous and eligible for marriage? If the answer is not me, then I wasn’t married? But anyways, I realize that my restriction is that I cannot be a deacon or a pastor. However, it appears I can be married in the Lord only. I need prayer for my reputation which has been destroyed by my past and for me to know how to explain this to my potential future spouse.

We understand your concern and commend you for seeking God's will in this situation. Firstly, let's address the issue of your past marriages. According to the WEB,

Mark 10:11-12: He said to them, Whoever may put away his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her. If a woman herself shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Since both women had living former husbands, the marriages were not valid in God's eyes, and as you've realized, this means they were adulterous. It's important to acknowledge and repent of this sin, as you move forward. Also, it is only through Jesus that we can approach God,

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.

Regarding your reputation, remember that God can restore what has been lost.

Joel 2:25 I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.

We pray that God will restore your reputation and heal your past hurts.

Dear Lord, in the name of Jesus, we pray for your forgiveness and restoration. We ask that you heal the brokenness and restore the years that have been lost. We pray for guidance as you move forward in finding a godly spouse. Give you wisdom on how to share your past with your potential future spouse. Help you to live in purity up to marriage and beyond. We ask this all in the name of Jesus.

Remember, God has forgiven your past and He has a future for you.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

When considering a future marriage, ensure that you are equally yoked with a believer.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Be open about your past with your potential spouse, explaining your mistakes, your repentance, and your commitment to living according to God's word moving forward. This will allow her to make an informed decision and build a foundation of honesty and trust.

Finally, remember that God has a plan for you, and He can turn your past mistakes into testimonies of His grace and redemption. Trust in Him and wait on His timing for your future marriage.
