Restoration of my marriage

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please pray for the restoration of my marriage. My hubby and I are not living under the same roof since 3 years. Followed by false accusations from my in laws, he had preferred to look for aa house and let me leave there all alone. I only see him on Saturdays. I forgive him and all his family for the hurt they have caused me. I first and very concern is about seeing him save by grace of God and he is delivered from idolatry. I fully submit this situation in God's hand and by the blood of Jesus I declare my marriage is saved and my hubby has received salvation. I pray he will not talk about divorce anymore. Onl God will have the final words. Amen

We hear the pain and the faith in your request and we stand with you together before the throne of grace in Jesus' name to seek God's will for your marriage.

We commend you for your heart of forgiveness toward your husband and his family, for that reflects the heart of Christ in us. As it is written, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 and bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13 Your willingness to forgive after false accusations and three years of living apart is obedience to the Lord and it keeps your own heart free from bitterness.

We also rejoice that your first concern is not only for your home to be restored but for your husband's soul, that he would be saved by grace and delivered from idolatry. That is the right priority, for what shall it profit a man to gain all else and lose his soul. We agree with you that idolatry must be forsaken, for Scripture says Little children, keep yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21 and Flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:14 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 We pray that he will hear the gospel, repent, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 and that God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4

We want to gently encourage you about your marriage covenant. God ordained marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and He intends husband and wife to dwell together as one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Mark 10:9 and For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. Malachi 2:16 To live apart for three years and to see each other only on Saturdays is not God's design for marriage, and we understand your grief over this separation. We also hear that divorce has been spoken of, and we agree with you that God should have the final word, not man and not painful circumstances. The Lord commands, But to the married I command, not I, but the Lord, that the wife not leave her husband but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband, and that the husband not leave his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 We endorse and pray for reconciliation, not divorce, and we encourage you to remain faithful to your covenant, to keep yourself pure and not to pursue any other relationship, for marriage is honorable and the bed undefiled.

We also want to lovingly caution you about declaring your marriage saved as if by the power of our own words. Our hope is not in a formula or declaration but in humble submission to the sovereign will of our Father. We do plead the blood of Jesus with thanksgiving, for by His blood we have redemption and access to God, but we trust His timing and His perfect will rather than demanding an immediate outcome. Continue to submit this situation into God's hands daily as you are doing, and walk in quiet faithfulness and prayer. In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word. 1 Peter 3:1 Your godly conduct, your prayers, and your forgiveness are a powerful testimony.

We pray together now for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for Your mercy and grace. We lift up this dear sister and her husband to You. Lord, You see the three years of separation, the hurt from false accusations, the loneliness of living alone, and the pain of hearing talk of divorce. We ask You to heal the wounds in both hearts and to bring conviction where there has been wrongdoing. Lord, we pray for this husband's salvation, that You would open his eyes to the truth of the gospel, draw him by Your Holy Spirit, deliver him completely from every idol and false worship, and make him a new creation in Christ. We pray for this marriage covenant, that what You have joined together no man would separate, that You would soften his heart toward his wife, remove the desire for divorce, and restore them to dwell together again in love, unity, and faithfulness as one flesh. We pray for the in-laws as well, that You would bring forgiveness and peace where there has been accusation, and if it is possible, as much as it is up to us, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18 Give this sister strength to continue in forgiveness, patience, and hope, guard her from discouragement, and surround her with godly counsel and support from mature believers and pastors. Let Your will be done in this home, and let Your name be glorified through restoration and through salvation. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our mediator and our hope. Amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, to continue in the Word daily, to seek wise and biblical counsel from a trusted pastor, and to keep showing the love of Christ without nagging or strife, trusting that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. We are praying with you that God will have the final word and that His restoration will come in His perfect time.

We were so touched by your honesty and the tenderness of your heart toward your husband. Living apart for three years, carrying the pain of false accusations and seeing him only on Saturdays, is a heavy and lonely road. We admire that you have chosen to forgive him and his family, and that your deepest desire is not just to be together again but to see him know God's grace and be free from idolatry.

That kind of forgiveness is a real decision, and we have found it often takes time for our emotions to catch up with the decision we have made. It is understandable if hurt still rises up even as you have released them in your heart. Be gentle with yourself as God continues to heal you.

Reconciliation, when God brings it, takes willingness on both sides, so you cannot carry this alone. A practical help can be to have one or two mature believers who know your story walk with you consistently, to pray with you, to give you wise perspective for those Saturday visits, and to help you discern next steps without pressure. Keep entrusting your marriage to the Lord as you are doing, loving your husband faithfully in the ways that are appropriate while you live apart.

Father, we lift this sister and her husband to You in Jesus' name. We ask You to draw him to Yourself, to open his eyes to Your grace and deliver him as only You can. Bring healing, wisdom and peace to both of them, guard their hearts and guide their decisions according to Your will. Sustain our sister with Your presence each day. Amen.

Your prayer has come before us with its weight of sorrow and its breath of faith, and we have carried it to the throne of grace on your behalf. To be separated these three years, to bear false accusations, to dwell alone and see your husband but one day in the week, is a deep trial, and the grace you show in forgiving him and his family for the hurt they have caused is itself a testimony that the Lord has been at work in your own heart.

Your first and chief concern is a right and holy one, that your husband may be saved by the grace of God and delivered from idolatry. This we make our earnest prayer with you. Salvation is of the Lord alone, and beside Him there is none else. It is not by works, nor by merit, nor by the ordinances of man, but by looking unto Jesus. As the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. To believe on Him is to trust in Him, to leave the whole matter of your present and eternal salvation with Him in unquestioning confidence. We pray that your husband may be brought to look unto Christ and be saved, for there is no other way of salvation for any soul. He Himself is salvation, and in none other is it to be found. May the Lord show him that idols cannot save, and that Christ alone, who was laid in Zion for a foundation, is the only refuge for sinners. We pray that he may hear the plain gospel of salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus and be willing and obedient to receive it.

We join you also in praying for the restoration of your marriage. The Lord is a God of perfect restoration, who says to His wandering ones, Come back, and they shall be as though I had not cast them aside. He can restore unto His people the joy of His salvation and cause the bones which He has broken to rejoice. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, ordained of God and not to be put asunder lightly. What God has joined together, let not man put asunder. We pray that the Lord in His mercy would turn your husband's heart from speaking of divorce, that He would heal the breach made by accusation and separation, and that if it be His holy will, He would bring you again to dwell together in peace and in holiness under one roof. Only God will have the final word, and we submit this with you into His sovereign hands, trusting not in our own declarations but in His power and His promise.

Let us pray together. O God of all grace, look in mercy upon this daughter of sorrow and upon her husband. Save him, we beseech Thee, by Thy free grace. Deliver him from all idolatry and bring him to trust wholly in the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ, for without faith there is no salvation. Forgive his sins and hers, and uphold them both with Thy free Spirit. Where there has been wounding and accusation, bring healing and truth. Where there has been talk of divorce, put in the heart a love for Thy covenant and a fear of breaking it. Restore, O Lord, what has been broken, as Thou alone canst restore, and let this household be ordered in Thy fear. We leave this marriage and these two souls in Thy hands, asking not our will but Thine be done, and that Thy name may have the glory. Hear us for Jesus sake. Amen.

Continue to wait upon the Lord with that forgiving spirit and quiet submission you have shown. Cast your burden upon Him, and keep looking unto Jesus, for He is faithful. Leave the whole matter of salvation and of restoration with Him in unquestioning confidence, and may He keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him.
