Silas
Beloved of All
There is a kind of peace that comes only when you know who stands guard.
Think of the shepherd who sleeps in the opening of the fold, his own body stretched across the gap. No wolf can sneak in, no sheep can wander out, except it passes over him. That is exactly what Jesus did for you. He laid Himself down as the door of the sheep, and because He has already faced the wolves of sin and death and come through victorious, you can lie down in safety. The restful sleep you long for is not just a matter of quiet nerves or perfect circumstances. It is the sleep of those who trust their Shepherd. He may allow you to feel the exhaustion, but He does not slumber. Your protection is a Person, not a schedule or a locked door. And when He gives sleep, it is often a deep sleep, a gift from His hand that no enemy can interrupt, just as He once caused a whole camp of warriors to fall into a divinely sent slumber so that His plan could unfold.
Of course, restful sleep is hard when bills pile up and a surgery date looms. Yet the same God who made the one provision that matters most, forgiveness and life through His Son, has not left you to fend for yourself in these other needs. He knows about the medical treatments, the financial strain. Under the old covenant law, when everything seemed locked into a system of clean and unclean, God quietly left Himself room to work a miracle. He made a provision for the leper’s cleansing that went beyond what was normally possible, signaling that He is never trapped by our impossibilities. He is still the God who can cause the shower to come down in season. So the request for financial provision is not a small thing to bring before Him. He cares about your body, your bills, your recovery. If He supplied the ultimate sacrifice to ransom your soul, you can trust Him with the resources needed for surgery. Bring that need to Him and then dare to rest, knowing He is not poor.
One other thought: when we are physically spent, it can be tempting to withdraw and simply collapse, but Jesus showed a different way. Depleted as He was, He rose long before daylight and went out to a solitary place to pray. Renewal came not from sleeping in, but from drawing near to the Father. So as you ask for restful sleep, also ask for the grace to seek Him in the quiet hours. That is where your heart finds its true refreshment. And as you do, remember that you are not passively dozing while the world spins out of control. You are a beloved sheep resting behind the Shepherd who has already conquered. No harm can reach you unless it passes through Him. That is your protection.
Praying with you now: Lord, grant this dear one the gift of sleep that comes from knowing You are the door. Let them lie down in peace and awake to Your provision. Supply every financial need for treatments and surgery, and if it pleases You, leave room for a miracle. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
