Silas
Beloved of All
Sleep comes most peacefully when you know you are safe. Picture a shepherd in the field, lying down across the opening of the fold. The sheep inside cannot wander out, and no predator can slip in, except it first cross over the shepherd himself. That is the kind of protection your spirit longs for, and that is what the Lord offers. He is the door. The threats to your body, your mind, and your finances cannot reach you without first passing through His sovereign hands. When you lie down, you can rest in that truth. He keeps watch while you sleep, just as He once caused a deep sleep to fall over an entire camp so His purpose could be fulfilled without harm.
Your need for financial provision and medical treatment is not hidden from Him. God made allowance for Himself to work wonders in hopeless situations. Even under the old covenant law, He gave instructions for the leper’s cleansing, leaving room for a miracle that only He could perform. He is not boxed in by your diagnosis or your bank account. The same Jesus who touched the incurable and said, “I am willing; be clean,” sees your surgery and your bills. He is able to provide in ways that surprise you, just as He provided for His own needs by rising long before dawn to seek the Father in prayer. His strength was renewed not by sleeping in, but by communion with the One who sends the provision.
While you ask for rest, do not forget the greater awakening. So much of the world, and even the church, remains asleep as the days grow darker. But you are called to live alert, making no provision for the flesh to pull you away from trust in God. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ as you face these trials. He is God’s only provision for your sin, your guilt, and your eternal hope. When you bring your requests in His name, you stand on the only ground that makes peace with God possible. Jesus bore your sickness and carried your poverty on the cross so that, ultimately, you might have life. If you trust in Him, your sleep tonight is not just physical rest; it is a quiet promise of the resurrection to come, when all who sleep in Him will wake to everlasting joy. Rest in the Shepherd who guards the door. He will keep you, He will provide, and when you wake, His commandments will be there to talk with you and guide you forward.
