Removed my nephew from my house

I allowed my nephew to stay in my house while he was recovering from a drug addiction but now he's being aggressive and disobedient with me whenever I ask him to behave like a Christian man. He's just giving me problems. I want him to return to Mexico. Please my Lord Jesus remove my nephew from my house. I want my peace back.

We hear your cry for peace and restoration in your home, and we stand with you in seeking God’s will in this difficult situation. Your desire to see your nephew walk in holiness and obedience to Christ is commendable, and your frustration is understandable when he resists godly correction. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:15, "Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline drives it far from him." While your nephew is not a child, the principle remains, discipline and boundaries are necessary for those who refuse to walk in wisdom.

We must also address the weight of your decision to remove him from your home. Scripture calls us to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), but it also warns against enabling sin. If your nephew is unrepentant in his rebellion, whether through aggression, disobedience, or a refusal to honor God, then setting firm boundaries may be the loving yet necessary step. In 1 Corinthians 5:11, Paul writes, "But as it is, I wrote to you not to associate with anyone who is called a brother who is a sexual sinner, or covetous, or an idolater, or a slanderer, or a drunkard, or an extortionist. Don’t even eat with such a person." While this passage speaks to the church, the principle applies: we cannot condone or enable unrepentant sin, even in family.

Yet we must also examine our hearts. Are we acting out of love, or has frustration turned to bitterness? Ephesians 4:26-27 warns, "‘Be angry, and don’t sin.’ Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil." If your nephew’s presence has stirred up anger or resentment in you, we must repent and ask God to soften our hearts even as we stand firm in truth.

We also lift up your nephew before the Lord. Addiction is a fierce battle, and only Christ can break its chains. Pray that the Holy Spirit would convict him of his sin and draw him to repentance. In John 8:36, Jesus declares, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." True freedom from addiction, and from the rebellion that fuels it, comes only through surrender to Christ.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, seeking Your wisdom and mercy. Lord, we lift up this sister/brother who has shown love and patience to her/his nephew, only to face aggression and disobedience. We ask that You would grant her/him discernment to know how to respond in a way that honors You, whether through firm boundaries, loving correction, or both. Father, we pray for her/his nephew, that Your Holy Spirit would break the chains of addiction and rebellion in his life. Convict him of his sin, Lord, and draw him to repentance. If it is Your will for him to return to ###, we ask that You would make a way and soften his heart to go. Restore peace to this home, Lord, and let Your presence fill every corner. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to You. Amen.

We encourage you to continue praying for your nephew, even as you set boundaries. Pray for his salvation, for his deliverance from addiction, and for God to place godly influences in his life. If he is unwilling to submit to Christ, then your home may no longer be the place for him, but that does not mean you stop loving him or praying for him. Trust that God is working, even when you cannot see it. In all things, seek His will above your own, and He will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).

We know how heavy it can feel when the home you opened in good faith becomes a place of conflict and unease. You offered your nephew shelter during his recovery, that was an act of real love, and when his behavior turned aggressive and disobedient, you made the hard call to protect the atmosphere of your own household. There’s no guilt in setting that boundary; Scripture’s wisdom about guarding your heart extends to guarding the space where you live and rest. Peace is not a luxury, and you’re not wrong to want it back.

One concrete thing that sometimes helps in the aftermath is letting your church leadership or a trusted few friends know, not to broadcast the story, but so a couple of steady people can simply check in on you in the coming days. The weight of this kind of situation can linger, and having even one or two others aware can make the load more bearable. If your nephew remains in the area and his volatility worries you, having those connections already in place gives you backup if you ever feel isolated or unsafe.

We’re praying with you now.

Lord Jesus, you see the turmoil this household has absorbed. Thank you for giving this woman the courage to reclaim her home as a place of peace. Guard her heart from guilt over a decision that was both wise and necessary. Grant her days of quiet restoration, and bring steady, trustworthy people around her so she’s not carrying any remaining weight alone. For her nephew, we ask that you break the patterns that have gripped him and lead him toward lasting recovery, far from the chaos he was bringing. Surround her with your presence, and let her feel your nearness as she rests in you tonight. In your name, Amen.

You did what you could. You opened your door when he was in the worst of it, and that was no small thing. It is the way of grace to take in the shipwrecked and give them shelter. And now he has repaid your kindness with anger and defiance, and your home, which ought to be your quiet harbor, has become a place of strife. That kind of trouble wears a soul down until you feel you have nothing left.

But hear me on this. The peace you long for is not a peace that depends on your nephew’s behavior, nor on whether he stays or goes, nor on the swiftness of an answer to your prayer. Our Lord Jesus does not give the world’s kind of peace, the peace that waits for everything outside to line up just so. He gives His peace. And His peace can sit down in the middle of a storm, right in the same room with trouble, and not be moved. It is not a peace that comes when the house is finally quiet; it is a peace He breathes into your spirit while the turmoil is still raging. He says, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you.” And what is His peace? It is the peace He had when the crowds pressed Him and His own received Him not, the peace that could sleep in a boat while the waves were breaking over the bow.

You have asked the Lord Jesus to remove your nephew, and you may pray that with a clear heart. It is not wrong to desire the restoration of order and the safety of your own dwelling. But while you wait for Him to work, whether He moves the young man to go, or whether He sovereignly changes the whole atmosphere of your home, do not let your soul be held hostage to his conduct. The Prince of Peace can garrison your heart right now, tonight, even while the trouble still sits across the table from you. His peace is a present possession.

Remember this too: your Savior wore a thorn-crowned head. Shall the members of His body expect to go through this world on flowery beds of ease? You have been pressed beyond measure, I do not doubt it, and your spirit is bruised. But this hard road you are walking is not a sign that God has forgotten you. It is the very path His own Son trod before you. He was misunderstood. He was met with aggression. He extended kindness and received contempt. And in all of it He kept saying, quietly, steadily, deep in His soul, “Not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” That prayer is not resignation to defeat; it is the door into perfect peace. When you come to the place where you can say, “Lord, I want my peace back, I want this young man gone, yet not my will but Thine be done,” then something in you lets go, and the peace that passes understanding settles in.

And let me say this gently. You told him to behave like a Christian man, and he would not hear it. That wounds deep, for you wanted more for him. But you cannot do the Holy Spirit’s work. You cannot melt a heart that is frozen against God. What you can do is what you have done: you have laid your sorrow before the Lord, and you keep leaving your nephew in the hands of the One whose “shall” is mightier than any man’s “I will not.” The grace of God knows how to work quietly, yet potently, so that the most unwilling heart feels itself sweetly constrained. So fling yourself upon that divine strength now. You are worn thin; let Him carry both you and this whole burden.

Father, into Thy hands I commend this dear, weary soul. Thou seest the trouble that has invaded her home and stolen her quiet. Come now, Lord Jesus, and speak peace within her, not a peace that depends on circumstances, but the deep, unshakable peace that is Thy own legacy to Thy people. If it please Thee, open a door for this young man to go, and restore safety to this dwelling. But more than that, calm the storm within, and let Thy servant feel the stillness of Thy presence, even while she waits. Let her know that Thou art near, that Thou hast not abandoned her, and that her life is hid with Christ in God. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this difficult time. It takes great love and courage to open your home to someone in need, and we admire your heart for wanting to see your nephew walk in the truth and healing of Christ. We have lifted him up before the Lord, asking for His mercy, transformation, and deliverance from the strongholds that have taken hold of his life. We’ve also prayed for wisdom and strength for you, that God would grant you peace, discernment, and the grace to respond in a way that honors Him—even in the midst of frustration and weariness.

As you seek the Lord’s will in this situation, we encourage you to keep surrendering your home, your heart, and your nephew into His hands. If the Lord has answered this prayer in any way—whether through a change in circumstances, a shift in your nephew’s attitude, or even a newfound sense of peace in your own spirit—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the situation remains unresolved or feels heavier, please know that we are still here to stand with you. You are not alone, and we would be honored to continue lifting this burden before the throne of grace.

May the Father surround you with His comfort and assurance as you wait on Him. May He remind you of His faithfulness, even when the path ahead is unclear. And may He work all things together for good, drawing your nephew closer to His heart and restoring the peace of your home. We continue to pray in the powerful and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
