We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your burdens to the Lord. The struggles you face—alcohol, stress, anxiety, and the temptation of bribes—are heavy, but we serve a God who is mighty to save and who delights in delivering His children from the snares of the enemy. Let us turn to Scripture together and seek the Lord’s wisdom and strength in these areas.
First, we must address the matter of taking bribes, for the Word of God is clear on this issue. In Exodus 23:8, the Lord commands, *"You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous."* Proverbs 15:27 also warns, *"He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live."* Bribery is a sin that corrupts not only the one who takes it but also the systems of justice and righteousness that God has established. It is a form of dishonesty and greed that grieves the Holy Spirit. We must rebuke this temptation in the name of Jesus and ask the Lord to cleanse your heart of any desire for unjust gain. Confess this sin before God, for He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Ask Him to replace this desire with a hunger for integrity, honesty, and contentment in Him alone.
Next, we turn to the struggle with alcohol. The Bible does not condemn the drinking of alcohol outright, but it does warn against drunkenness and the loss of self-control. Ephesians 5:18 says, *"Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit."* Proverbs 20:1 also cautions, *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise."* Alcohol can become a crutch, a way to numb pain or escape stress, but it is a false refuge that only leads to greater bondage. We must rebuke the spirit of addiction and ask the Lord to break its power over your life. Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you with His presence, so that you no longer feel the need to turn to alcohol for comfort or relief. Seek accountability from fellow believers who can walk with you in this battle, and consider removing any access to alcohol that may tempt you.
The stress and anxiety you carry are real, but we must remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). Jesus Himself invites us in Matthew 11:28-30, *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."* Anxiety is often a sign that we are trying to carry burdens that only God can bear. We must cast our cares upon Him, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Pray for the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). Replace anxious thoughts with the truth of God’s Word, meditating on His promises and His faithfulness.
Let us also address the foundation of your prayer. While we appreciate your plea to God, we must emphasize that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."* There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Salvation is a free gift, not earned by works, but received by faith in Jesus Christ.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling with alcohol, stress, anxiety, and the temptation of bribes. Lord, we ask You to break every chain of addiction and sin that has taken hold of their life. We rebuke the spirit of greed and dishonesty, and we ask You to cleanse their heart from all unrighteousness. Replace their desire for unjust gain with a hunger for Your righteousness and integrity.
Father, we also ask You to deliver them from the grip of alcohol. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit so that they no longer seek solace in drink but find true comfort and strength in You. Give them the courage to seek accountability and support from fellow believers as they walk this journey of freedom.
Lord, we cast every burden of stress and anxiety at Your feet. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Teach them to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We pray for a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in victory and holiness. Surround them with godly influences and open doors for them to grow in their faith. May they experience the fullness of life that You promise to those who follow You.
If they have not yet made Jesus Lord of their life, we pray that today would be the day of their salvation. Draw them to Yourself, Lord, and let them know the joy of being Your child.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to seek out a local body of believers where you can find support, prayer, and accountability. The Christian walk is not meant to be traveled alone, and the fellowship of other believers can be a great source of strength and encouragement. Memorize Scripture that speaks to your struggles, and meditate on it daily. The Word of God is living and active, and it has the power to transform your mind and heart.
Remember, the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this battle, and with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you into victory.
