Relief from depression

Disciple of Prayer
Been battling depression for more than ### years. Nothing brings relief, much less, any healing. There is only one cure. I've been praying for years for God to have mercy and let me finally succumb to my untreatable OSA...the sooner, the better.

We hear the depth of your pain, and our hearts ache with you in this heavy burden you’ve carried for so long. Depression is a relentless storm, and we recognize how exhausting it is to walk through each day feeling as though there is no relief in sight. You are not alone in this battle, though it may feel that way. We stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your cry to the One who sees, knows, and cares deeply for you.

First, we must address the weight of your words about succumbing to your condition. The desire for an end to suffering is understandable, but we must rebuke the lie that death is the only cure. Scripture tells us, *"The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly"* (John 10:10). Jesus does not promise a life free from pain, but He does promise His presence in the midst of it. The enemy would have you believe that your struggle is hopeless, but God’s Word declares that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We must stand firm against the deception that your life has no purpose or that God has abandoned you. He has not.

Your mention of prayer is a powerful acknowledgment of your dependence on God, but we must also remind you—and ourselves—that prayer is not a transaction where we demand our desired outcome. It is a surrender to His will, even when His will is mysterious or painful. *"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," says Yahweh. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts"* (Isaiah 55:8-9). We do not always understand His timing or His methods, but we trust that He is working all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Depression often distorts our perception of God’s character. It can make Him seem distant, indifferent, or even cruel. But Scripture paints a different picture: *"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit"* (Psalm 34:18). He collects every tear in His bottle (Psalm 56:8) and knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30). You are seen, known, and deeply loved by the Creator of the universe. We must fight the lie that your suffering is meaningless or that God is unmoved by it.

We also want to gently encourage you to seek practical help alongside your prayers. Depression is not just a spiritual battle; it is often a physical and emotional one as well. The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to care for them. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a serious medical condition that can exacerbate depression, and we urge you to seek treatment from a healthcare professional if you haven’t already. God often works through doctors, therapists, and medications to bring healing and relief. *"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord"* (James 5:14). This verse reminds us that God uses both spiritual and practical means to bring healing.

We also want to address the isolation that often accompanies depression. You may feel as though no one understands or that your pain is too heavy to share, but the body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). We encourage you to reach out to a trusted friend, pastor, or counselor who can walk with you through this valley. You do not have to carry this alone.

Now, let us come before the Lord together in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is battling the darkness of depression. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who heals. We ask that You would draw near to them in this moment, wrapping them in Your love and reminding them that they are not alone. Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell them their suffering is meaningless or that death is the only escape. We declare that You are the God of hope, and we ask that You would fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, we pray for physical healing from the effects of OSA and any other ailments that are contributing to their struggle. We ask that You would guide them to the right doctors, treatments, and support systems that can bring relief. Give them the strength to seek help and the courage to persevere even when it feels impossible.

Father, we also pray for their spirit. Depression can make You seem distant, but we know that You are close to the brokenhearted. Remind them of Your love, Your faithfulness, and Your promises. Help them to cling to Your Word even when their feelings tell them otherwise. Surround them with people who will speak truth into their life and walk with them in love.

Lord, we ask that You would give them a renewed sense of purpose. Show them how their life matters to You and to those around them. Help them to see glimpses of Your light even in the darkness. And Father, if there are areas of their life where sin or unforgiveness is contributing to their struggle, we ask that You would reveal it to them and give them the grace to repent and seek Your forgiveness.

We trust You, Lord, to work in this situation according to Your perfect will. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who conquered sin and death so that we might have life abundantly. Amen.

We want to leave you with this encouragement from Lamentations 3:22-23: *"It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."* Even on the days when you cannot feel it, God’s compassion is renewed for you every morning. His faithfulness is not dependent on your circumstances or your emotions. He is steadfast, and He will not let you go.

Please know that we are continuing to pray for you, and we urge you to keep fighting—one day, one hour, one moment at a time. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are deeply loved.

We're here with you, friend, in this heavy battle against depression. We understand that it feels relentless, exhausting, and sometimes, it seems like there's no relief in sight. But remember, you're not alone. We're standing right here with you, lifting your cry up to the One who sees, knows, and cares deeply for you.

We want to echo what was said earlier about the lie that death is the only cure. It's important to refute that deception and trust in God's promise that He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He has not abandoned you, and your life has purpose.

We also want to encourage you to keep seeking professional help alongside your prayers. It's crucial to care for your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). If you haven't already, please consider seeking treatment for your Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) from a healthcare professional. God often works through doctors, therapists, and medications to bring healing and relief.

Let's also remind ourselves that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). We may not understand His timing or methods, but we trust that He is working all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

We want to leave you with this verse from Lamentations 3:22-23: "It is because of the Lord’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." Even on the days when you can't feel it, God's compassion is renewed for you every morning. His faithfulness is not dependent on your circumstances or emotions. He is steadfast, and He will not let you go.

Please keep fighting, one day, one hour, one moment at a time. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are deeply loved. We're continuing to pray for you, and we urge you to reach out to a trusted friend, pastor, or counselor who can walk with you through this valley. You don't have to carry this alone.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for the trust you placed in us by sharing your heavy burden and allowing us to stand with you in prayer. It has been on our hearts to continue lifting you up before the Lord, asking Him to draw near to you in your struggle with depression. We know this battle has been long and wearying, and we pray that even now, you would feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit surrounding you like a gentle embrace.

If the Lord has brought any measure of relief, peace, or hope since you posted, we would be so encouraged to hear how He is working in your life. Your praise report could be a light to others walking a similar path. If, however, the weight still feels unbearable and the night still seems endless, please do not hesitate to post again. We will continue to intercede for you, asking God to strengthen your faith, renew your mind, and reveal His love in ways you may not yet see.

We pray that in the midst of this trial, you would sense His presence more deeply and that He would grant you moments of rest, clarity, and even joy. May He remind you that you are not forgotten, that your life has purpose, and that His grace is sufficient—even when the road ahead feels impossible. We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
