Beloved Servant
Please pray for God to mend problems I caused for myself and others by recently being in a relationship I should never have been in. Pray that God would also mend problems caused by other previous relationships I never should have been in. Thank you.

We hear your honest and humble confession and we join you in bringing it before the Lord, for it takes courage to admit that we have walked in ways we never should have walked and caused hurt to ourselves and to others. We thank God that you have a desire for Him to mend what has been broken, and we know that He is merciful to forgive and mighty to restore when we turn to Him in repentance.

The Lord calls us to pursue relationships that honor Him, and His word is clear that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity, or what fellowship has light with darkness, 2 Corinthians 6:14. We are also called to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. If these previous relationships involved intimacy outside of marriage, which God ordains as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, or if they were with those who do not share faith in Christ, or were pursued without the goal of godly marriage, then they were outside His perfect will. We say this not to condemn you but to lovingly rebuke and correct, because God desires purity and holiness for His children, and any sexual activity before or outside marriage is fornication or adultery that grieves Him and wounds our own souls and the souls of others. We encourage you to see dating as courtship with the purpose of finding a godly spouse who is a fellow believer in Christ, rather than simply a partner or companion.

We also noticed your request mentions God but does not mention Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. This forgiveness is made possible only by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross for us, and when we believe in Him and receive Him as Lord and Savior we can come boldly to God for healing and restoration.

We are encouraged that God is a restorer. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. He promises I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, Joel 2:25. And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose, Romans 8:28. Even when consequences remain, God can redeem what was broken and use your testimony for His glory.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, and we lift up this dear one who has confessed having been in relationships that were not of You. Lord, we ask for Your complete forgiveness and cleansing, create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us, Psalm 51:10. Wash away all guilt and shame by the blood of Jesus and help us to walk in repentance, turning fully away from any pattern of fornication, adultery, or being unequally yoked, and turning toward Your holiness. Lord, we ask You to mend the problems caused for this dear one and for every other person who was hurt through these relationships. Heal broken hearts, bring reconciliation where it is Your will, grant peace where there has been turmoil, and restore what the enemy has tried to steal. Protect this dear one from returning to old patterns and give wisdom and discernment for the future, that any future courtship would be with a faithful Christian believer with marriage as the godly goal that honors You. Give strength to live in purity and in obedience to Your word, and let Your grace be sufficient each day. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

We appreciate your honesty in bringing this before the Lord. It takes humility to name that these relationships were not where you should have been and to care about the hurt left behind for yourself and others.

We hear that you want God to mend what has been broken. Part of that mending often happens on two levels. There is a clear decision to turn away and to live differently going forward, and then there is the slower work of the heart catching up, sorting through regret, guilt and concern for those affected. Those two do not always move at the same speed, and it is normal for the emotions to need more time even after the decision is made. Forgiveness also does not automatically mean rebuilding every relationship as it was before, sometimes wisdom means healthy distance while still seeking peace where possible.

A steady next step we have seen help is to walk this out with one trusted pastor or counselor who knows you, not carrying it alone. You could share honestly what happened, what patterns you see across these relationships, and ask for help thinking through what, if anything, would be a wise and humble way to make amends without reopening harm, and what boundaries will protect you going forward.

We are praying for you.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. You see this regret and desire to make things right. Grant wisdom for each relationship affected, courage to take responsibility where You lead, and grace for healing in Your timing. Lead forward in purity and peace and help our friend walk in Your will day by day. Amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your prayer shows a heart that is turning toward Him with sorrow for sin. That is a hopeful sign, for there are many kinds of sorrow, and not all is the repentance unto life. A carnal repentance frets only at the consequences, but true repentance, which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit, gives God glory. It stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven through Jesus Christ alone, and then it grieves all the more that it should have laid such grief upon so good a Savior.

You have done well to confess that these relationships were such as you never should have been in. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that intimacy belongs within it. To step outside that holy boundary brings wounds to your own soul and to others, and no prayer can ask God to bless what He calls sin. But we can with confidence ask Him to forgive what He has promised to forgive, and to heal what sin has broken.

Hear the sure word, There is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, and it is surprising and complete. If you are the chief of sinners you may have the chief of sinners forgiveness, and that not by any merit of your own, but through the blood of Jesus Christ who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. He not only forgave at the first, but continues daily to forgive, and that forgiveness is eternal for all who trust in Him.

What then shall we pray for you. We will pray that the Lord will grant you that repentance which needs not to be repented of, a repentance which purges the soul from dead works and fills it with living works, which makes you weep and abhor your past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and which makes you avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for you. Try your repentance by these scales. Does it lead you to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only. Is it practical, yielding works meet for repentance, and does it last beyond a moment of regret. Repentance lives as long as faith, and sweet sister Repentance will be your companion all the way to glory, not as a bitter burden, but as a rainbow made of tears of grief and glances of hope at the finished work of Christ.

We will pray also that the Lord in His mercy would mend, so far as it is possible, the problems you have caused for yourself and for others. Some consequences remain and must be borne with patience, but God is able to bring healing where you have brought hurt, to restore what can be restored, to guard those you have wounded, and to keep you henceforth in holiness and wisdom. May He bring down your heart with a holy labor that you may fall upon Christ and find there is none to help but He, and may He keep you from returning to those paths.

Take this assurance and come to Him now. There is forgiveness now, at this moment, for whatever your sins may have been. Confess them plainly before Him, trust wholly in the Lord Jesus Christ for pardon, and ask for grace to walk in newness of life. The Lord who has begun this good work will perfect it, and you shall find that where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
