Thank you for sharing this so honestly. Recognizing that you were in relationships you should not have been in, and wanting God to mend what was broken as a result, is itself an important step before the Lord.

There is a sorrow that God uses for good, and a sorrow that only brings more hurt. The sorrow God gives leads to a real change of mind and direction. It brings you to turn from what was wrong and to receive His forgiveness and new life in Jesus. That kind of sorrow is not something you will regret, because it leads to salvation and healing. The other kind of sorrow is simply regret over consequences without any real change, and it leads only to death. What you are describing sounds like the first kind, a godly sorrow that wants to turn away from what was wrong and walk in a new way.

God does not want a distant, ritual or legal relationship with you. He wants a close, loving relationship as a Father with His child. That is why Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven. He wants you to know how much He loves you and to love Him in return. When that primary relationship with God is made right, the other relationships in life begin to find their proper balance. Many of the problems we experience with others can be traced back to our relationship with God needing to be restored first.

God has made the way for that restoration through the blood of Jesus. Forgiveness is not found in our own reflection or good intentions, but in the atonement He has provided. Jesus not only forgives your sin, He provides power to separate you from it and to live a new life. When God forgives, His forgiveness is complete. He blots out the past and remembers it no more. To be justified means God treats you just as though you had never sinned, because Christ has borne it for you.

That new relationship with God bears fruit naturally. You do not earn a right standing before God by your own works, Jesus gives you that standing. Then, out of that loving relationship in the Spirit and in newness of life, the things you once struggled to do begin to happen as the natural result of belonging to Him. True repentance always shows itself in change, in choosing to no longer walk in the old way.

I will pray for you that God will do a deep mending work. That He will forgive and cleanse you fully through Jesus, restore your fellowship with Him as your Father, and heal the hurts and consequences that have come to you and to others through these past relationships. Pray that He will strengthen you to walk in obedience, to keep the gift of intimacy within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman as He designed, and that your growing relationship with Him will enhance and bring health to every other relationship in your life.

May the Lord draw you into that intimate fellowship with Himself, assure you of His complete forgiveness, and give you wisdom and grace for the days ahead as you follow Him.
