My mother abused me in everyway possible until I was ###. I need to keep distance from her so that I don't get hurt again.

We weep with you over the deep pain you have carried and we thank you for sharing this with us so honestly. What was done to you was evil and was never God's will for you as a child. Scripture is clear that children are to be nurtured and protected, not harmed. Ephesians 6:4 says Fathers, don't provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, and Matthew 18:6 warns that whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him that a huge millstone should be hung around his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depths of the sea. We rebuke every form of abuse that was committed against you, for God Himself rebukes it and sees all that you suffered.

We want you to know that your desire to keep distance in order to stay safe is wise and not unbiblical. While God does command us in Exodus 20:12 to Honor your father and your mother, that command does not require you to remain in harm's way or to allow ongoing abuse. To honor can mean to speak truthfully, to pray for her, and to live a life that pleases God, while still setting needed boundaries. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, and sometimes being at peace means creating distance when the other person remains unsafe. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life, and Proverbs 22:3 says the prudent sees danger and hides himself. Guarding your heart and your safety after such trauma is an act of stewardship, not dishonor, and we affirm your discernment in this.

We also know that wounds from a mother cut especially deep, and healing takes time. The Lord draws especially near to you in this brokenness. Psalm 34:18 promises Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, and Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. God desires to be the perfect Father to you where your earthly mother failed, for Psalm 68:5 describes Him as a father of the fatherless and Isaiah 41:10 reminds us Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Forgiveness as taught in Ephesians 4:32 is part of healing, but forgiveness does not mean you must trust again immediately or place yourself back in danger without true repentance and change. We encourage you to continue to seek wise, biblically grounded counsel and a safe community of believers who can walk with you in this healing journey.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently want to share why His name is so essential. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true healing and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet placed your trust in Him, we urge you to believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. He is the one who can carry your pain and make you whole.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this precious one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You have seen every tear and every wound from childhood until now, and You have not looked away. We ask You to wrap Your arms of comfort around this hurting heart, to heal the memories and the trauma, and to bind up every wound. Grant wisdom to maintain healthy boundaries without guilt, and give peace in keeping distance for safety. Help to release bitterness while holding onto wisdom, and teach what godly forgiveness looks like apart from unsafe reconciliation. Bring trustworthy, godly people into life to provide support, counsel and protection, and bring conviction and repentance to the mother where there is still sin. Above all, draw this dear one into a deeper relationship with Jesus, that in Him there would be found identity, worth, and complete restoration. We ask that You would restore what was broken and lead into wholeness and hope. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We are so glad you shared this with us, even though it is painful to carry. Enduring abuse from your mother through childhood is a deep wound, and choosing distance to protect yourself is an understandable and wise desire.

If you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services right now. For free, confidential support, you can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. You are not alone, trained people are ready to help right now.

What happened to you was not your fault. Abuse in any form can affect the whole person and leave you feeling powerless or on guard long after it has stopped, and it makes sense that you would need space and clear boundaries now. You deserve safety, dignity and steady care as you heal.

When you are able, it can help to have one or two safe people walking with you. That might be a trusted counselor, a pastor or a support advocate who understands abuse and can help you think through what healthy distance looks like practically, how to handle any necessary contact, and how to care for yourself when painful memories surface. If you notice ongoing distress, trouble sleeping or other health concerns, please consider reaching out to a medical or counseling professional alongside prayer.

Father, we lift them to You in Jesus name. You see all they have endured and You know their need for safety and peace. Surround them with protection, give them wisdom for boundaries, and bring gentle, trustworthy people and help around them. Lead them step by step toward healing and wholeness in Christ. Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect, heal and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Your sorrow has been heard and brought before the Lord with great tenderness, and we grieve with you over the deep wounds you have borne from your mother. To suffer abuse in every way from one who should have been a shelter is a heavy affliction, and it is right that you should seek safety and distance so that you are not hurt again. The Lord who sees all that is done in secret is your refuge, and He does not despise the cry of the wounded heart.

We do not take lightly what you have endured. Unhappily, it is not so with all, that they learn what is good from their parents, and some bear an evil example in their childhood. To honor your mother as Scripture commands does not require you to place yourself again under harm. Wisdom may bind upon the heart what is good and true, while also setting a boundary against what would destroy. To keep distance for protection is not hardness of heart, but a sober care for the life God has given you, that you may be preserved and healed.

Scripture speaks a most cheering announcement to every sin burdened soul, "There is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared." Psalm 130:4. There is forgiveness with God, and it is to be obtained from God through Jesus Christ His Son. He was sent by the Father on purpose to forgive sin, and He has been exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins. If you have sought Him with your whole heart, know that this forgiveness is present, complete, and eternal, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He does not play fast and loose with men, but absolves perfectly through the blood of Jesus Christ which cleanses from all unrighteousness.

That forgiveness which God gives for Christ's sake is first received from His hand by confession and faith. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." This is the way to plead with God. And when He forgives, He also begins to heal. As with the man brought before Jesus, first came forgiveness, then followed healing. The Lord who forgives also restores the broken heart in His own time and way.

Forgiveness before God, dear soul, does not mean that trust is instantly restored where it has been shattered, nor does it require you to return to a place of danger. Forgiveness releases the heart from bitterness into the hands of God who judges righteously, while wisdom guards the life He is healing. You may forgive as God has forgiven you, and still walk in the light with boundaries that keep you safe.

We will pray for you.

Our Father in heaven, You see this wounded one whom You have made and whom You love. We ask You to cover this life with Your mercy through Jesus Christ, to grant full assurance of forgiveness and cleansing through His blood, and to give a sense of that complete forgiveness clear and unquestioned. Grant protection in this distance that has been taken for safety, bring healing to memory and body and soul, and surround this dear one with faithful, godly counsel and the care of Your church. Teach the heart to fear You, to love You, and to rest in You, and preserve from all evil. Lead in wisdom for every step concerning this earthly relationship, that truth and holiness and peace may prevail. In the name of Jesus our Saviour we ask it, Amen.

We encourage you to remain under the care of a faithful local church and, where possible, to seek wise and godly counsel for walking through this healing. Continue to bring every care to the Lord in prayer, and to hear His Word with heed, for with what measure you seek His solid truth, it shall be measured to you again. He who has promised forgiveness will also be your strength.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
