Past relationships

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have had many relationships I shouldn't have been in in my life. Please pray that God would heal wounds, pain and heartbreak from those relationships for me and those involved. Thank you.

We join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord and we thank you for your honesty in confessing that you have had many relationships you should not have been in. It takes humility to acknowledge this, and God honors a contrite heart. We want to lovingly and biblically address what you have shared so that true healing can come.

The Bible teaches that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual activity outside of that covenant is fornication and sin before God. We say this not to condemn you, but because God calls us to confess and turn from sin so that we may be forgiven and restored. As it is written, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. God also calls us to purity as we look toward marriage, for this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. Going forward we encourage you to see any future courtship not as simply having a boyfriend or girlfriend, but as a purposeful season of seeking a godly spouse, another Christian Believer, with marriage as the goal that honors the Lord.

The good news is that there is complete forgiveness and healing in Jesus Christ. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and receive forgiveness and healing. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. To be saved we must believe in our hearts that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. It is by His shed blood that our past sins are washed away and we are made whole.

We pray together for you and for all those involved in those past relationships.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your mercy and grace upon this dear one. We confess on their behalf the sins of relationships outside of Your perfect will, including any fornication, and we ask You to forgive and cleanse according to Your promise in 1 John 1:9. Lord, we ask You to heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. Heal the deep wounds, pain and heartbreak that remain, and heal also those others who were involved, wherever they are, that they too may find forgiveness and peace in Christ. Create in this dear one a clean heart and renew a right spirit within them, and help them to walk in purity and wholeness from this day forward. Lead them, if it is Your will, to a godly marriage that honors You, a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that reflects Christ and the church, and give them wisdom and strength to pursue courtship that is holy and centered on You. Restore what has been broken and use their testimony for Your glory. We ask all of this in Jesus' name, amen.

We encourage you to continue to walk closely with the Lord, to immerse yourself in His Word, to seek fellowship with strong believers who will hold you accountable, and to trust that God can redeem your past and make your future beautiful in Him.

We thank you for trusting us with this. It takes real honesty to look back and name relationships that caused hurt and to want healing not just for yourself but for the others involved too.

We hear how heavy that collection of memories can feel, and we want you to know God sees both the pain you carry and your desire to make things right before Him. Healing from this kind of history rarely happens all at once. Often there is a quiet decision to release what happened and to wish good rather than harm for the other person, and then a slower softening of the emotions underneath, which can rise and fall for a while even after the decision is made. It also helps to remember forgiveness does not have to mean going back or rebuilding a relationship.

One small step that has helped others is to take unhurried time with the Lord and bring one relationship or memory at a time to Him, honestly naming the hurt and asking Him to keep working on the resentment, bitterness or sadness that lingers, and to show you what wholeness looks like going forward. If painful memories keep surfacing, walking with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor can give you steady support as you process them.

Father, we bring them before You and ask for Your healing over every wound and heartbreak named and unnamed, for them and for those who were part of these relationships. Lead them into deeper peace and wholeness in Christ, and guide their steps forward in wisdom and grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and that is the word we bring to you in answer to your honest confession.

You have spoken plainly about past relationships which you know were not according to the Lord's holy way, and you ask for healing for yourself and for those who were involved. We do not affirm or ask God to bless what His Word calls sin, for He has shown us that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone and that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with intimacy belonging only within it. Yet where sin has abounded, grace does much more abound, and therefore we point you to the cross where forgiveness and healing meet.

Hear the blessed whisper of Scripture, There is forgiveness with God. Not forgiveness for this sin or for that only, but forgiveness without limit, without qualification, for whatever your sins may have been. As soon as a penitent heart trusts in the crucified Saviour, all sins are forgiven, whether past, present, or to come. The tally is destroyed, the record of debt is nailed to the Cross, and the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men. If you have been the chief of sinners, you may have the chief of sinners forgiveness, and God can bestow it now. Believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, as a man believes the Creed, and take it as your own.

With this forgiveness there comes healing. The Scripture says the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but even His leaves have virtue to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. The prophet also joins them in happy conjunction, the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, for the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity. Healing and pardon come together from the same pardoning hand.

We will pray for you, and for those others whose hearts have been wounded through these relationships, that the Lord would grant you all true repentance and faith in Christ, and with it that complete and eternal forgiveness which He gives freely through His Son. We pray that He would heal the wounds and pain and heartbreak that sin always leaves behind, that He would cleanse the conscience, quiet the memory, and make you whole in Him. We pray that He would keep you henceforth by His grace, walking in purity and newness of life according to His design, and that those who were involved would themselves seek and find the same mercy where it is to be found, with God, through Jesus Christ.

Turn to Him now, just as you are, and trust Him. There is forgiveness now, at this moment, and there is healing in His leaves for every sick soul that comes.
