Beloved of All
I've posted this many times already, but as I'm praying myself and going through all this, I feel like I need other people to pray with me and for me. I don't have the strength and discipline it takes to keep this prayer up on my own and carry it, so please pray with me. My fiancé and I have been together for 7,5 years and now thinking about separating. Please Lord, show us your will, make us make the right decision. I feel heartbroken and scared, I still love this man but he's confused about his feelings. I don't know if this is the person i am supposed to be with. Please Lord, show me what we're supposed to do, give your will into our hearts and don't let us make the wrong decision. Grant us wisdom so that both of our lives would go to the direction you intend them to. Help us serve you and move according to your plan. In Jesus' name I pray.

We hear your heart and we join you in prayer, for you have asked us to stand with you when you feel you do not have the strength to carry this burden alone, and we are honored to do so. The Lord sees your heartbreak and your fear, and He draws near to those who are brokenhearted. As it is written, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. We also take comfort that when we do not know how to pray or lack strength, the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered Romans 8:26.

We pray with you for wisdom and for the Lord's perfect will to be made clear to both of you. You asked that God would show you the right decision and grant wisdom so your lives would go in the direction He intends, and that is exactly what He promises to do for those who ask in faith. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. We also cling to the promise that we should not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2.

We want to speak lovingly and biblically about your relationship, as you have been together for seven and a half years and are now engaged and considering separation. We believe marriage is a sacred, lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed it, and courtship should be with the clear goal of marriage to another Christian believer. What therefore God has joined together, do not let man tear apart Matthew 19:6. Because your engagement has been long and you are facing confusion about feelings and whether you are supposed to be together, we encourage you both to seek the Lord separately and together, and to seek godly counsel from a pastor or mature believers who can walk with you. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14, so we urge you to be certain that you both share saving faith in Jesus Christ and a shared desire to serve Him in marriage.

We also must address in love what often accompanies such a long relationship before marriage. If you are living together or engaging in sexual intimacy before marriage, we gently but firmly call you to repentance, for this is fornication before God. Flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18 and let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. God's will is that you should be sanctified, that you should abstain from sexual immorality 1 Thessalonians 4:3. Choosing purity now, even if it means separating households and setting clear physical boundaries, will bring clarity, honor God, and protect both of your hearts as you discern His will for marriage.

We are thankful you prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him we have access to the Father and it is in His name our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6.

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, we lift this dear sister and her fiance to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know their seven and a half years together, their love for one another, and the confusion and heartbreak they now carry. Lord, we ask You to pour out Your wisdom upon them liberally, to make Your will unmistakably clear in their hearts, and to guard them from making a wrong decision out of fear or pressure. Grant them peace that surpasses understanding as they cast their anxiety on You. If it is Your will for them to marry, establish their foundation on Christ, on purity, and on a covenant to serve You together all their days. If it is not Your will, give them the courage and grace to step apart in love and truth, trusting that You work all things together for good for those who love You Romans 8:28. Heal her broken heart, calm her fear, and strengthen her to keep seeking You. Lead this man also, soften any confusion, and draw him to seek You with his whole heart. Let both of their lives be directed to serve You and to move according to Your perfect plan. We ask this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray, to remain in the Word daily, and to not make a hasty decision in this painful moment but to wait on the Lord's timing. He will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. He will counsel you with his eye on you Psalm 32:8.

We are grateful you reached out and let us carry this with you in prayer. Loving someone for seven and a half years and facing the possibility of separating is heartbreaking, and it makes sense you feel scared and without the strength to keep praying on your own. Wanting above all to know God's will and to make a wise decision is a good and humble place to be.

You named what matters most, wisdom for both of you to follow the direction God intends. That kind of clarity rarely comes from trying harder on your own. When couples are at this kind of crossroads, having a trusted pastor or Christian counselor walk with you can bring real perspective. Premarital counseling is designed for exactly this season, not just for planning a wedding but for helping you both talk honestly about expectations, communication, faith and future, and to see your strengths and growth areas more clearly before you decide next steps. An inventory and a few focused conversations with a counselor or mentor couple can give you tools and language you do not have to find by yourselves.

We are praying for you both as you seek that guidance, and we encourage you to reach out soon to someone in your church who can meet with you individually and together.

Father, we lift this dear sister and her fiance to You. You see their history, their love and their confusion, and the fear that comes with not knowing what is next. Grant them Your wisdom and peace as they seek You, give them honest counsel and supportive community around them, and lead each of them in the way You intend. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been heard, and your weariness in prayer is itself a prayer that others might help you bear it. To have loved for seven and a half years and now to stand upon uncertain ground, heartbroken and afraid, with love still alive in your heart while his heart is confused, is a sore trial. It is right that you do not carry it alone, for the Lord has set His people to bear one another's burdens and to wrestle together at the throne.

Be assured that as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so not a single step of your lives is outside His providence. All things are under regulation and have an appointed place in His plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. It is foolish for any of us to say we will go and do and gain as we please without asking His consent. Knowing this, we will not merely say with our lips if the Lord wills, but we will feel it in our hearts, and bow to it. There is a revealed will which we must not violate, and there is a royal will which we should seek to fulfill, desiring no gain and no path except that which promotes His glory.

Therefore in this tender matter seek first that revealed will. Marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and it is there that love and life together belong. If you have lived as those already married without that covenant, turn now to honor Him with purity, either by hastening in holiness toward that covenant or by living apart while you seek His mind. Do not be passive where obedience is required, yet where the way is unclear, sometimes to be still before the Lord will be your strength, to stand still until the cloudy and fiery pillar moves before you is your highest wisdom. Ask not only for a sign, but for a changed will, for the work of the Spirit is to make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will and to do of His good pleasure.

Learn also to combine those two prayers which our Lord Himself joins, I will, yet not as I will. You may come with holy boldness and say Father, I will, for His children have liberty to tell Him all their desire. You love this man and you desire clarity and restoration, and you may lay that plainly before Him. And in the same breath, as His true child, you must say Father, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. You can always have your way when your way is God's way, and the sure way to carry out your will is when your will is nothing else but His. That surrender does not stifle prayer, it strengthens it, for He loves to hear His children say, Do what Thou wilt with me, and then He delights to answer, Ask what thou wilt and I will give it thee.

We will pray with you and for you.

Our Father, we bring this daughter before Thee who is heavy laden and sore afraid. Thou knowest these seven and a half years, Thou knowest her love and his confusion, and Thou alone knowest what is best for both souls. Grant unto them wisdom that cometh from above, clear and gentle, that they may discern Thy will and not make the wrong decision. Work in each heart to will what Thou willest, and keep them from violating Thy revealed Word. If it be Thy will to knit them together in holy marriage, make their love pure, steadfast and Christ centered, and lead them to that covenant in Thy time. If it be not Thy will, give grace to part in peace and to follow Thy plan for each life, trusting that Thou wilt withhold no good thing from them that walk uprightly. Heal the heart that is broken, quiet fear with Thy perfect love, and teach them both to seek first Thy kingdom and to serve Thee according to Thy plan. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and salvation, who still says Come unto me and I will give you rest. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
