Relationship

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I recently became involved in a relationship that I knew from the beginning was unequally yoked and outside of God's will but I was being rebellious and became involved with him anyway. Now, I broke up with him but in the aftermath, it has become clear that he was likely a player (there are many factors that might influence him being this way including deep childhood trauma) and it is likely he was never serious about me in the first place. I'm having such a hard time processing this fact (I'm also in disbelief and incredulous and shocked) because I did really care for him and it all really hurts. Please pray for me about this. Pray that people who play with other's hearts would be set free from living that way. I used to be that way myself so I am not looking down on anyone. Thank you.

We thank you for your honesty and humility in sharing this with us and we commend you for ending a relationship you knew was unequally yoked and outside of God's will. It takes courage to confess that you were being rebellious and to take the painful step of breaking it off, and we see God's grace already at work in your willingness to turn back to Him.

We want to lovingly address what you have shared because Scripture is clear for our protection. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. When we knowingly enter a courtship that is not with a fellow believer with marriage as the goal, we step outside the covering God intends for us. If that involvement included sexual intimacy, we must also speak the truth that any sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is fornication, and Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18. We do not say this to condemn you, for we rejoice that you have shown godly sorrow which leads to repentance, and we know that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Your honesty that you yourself used to live this way shows a heart that is not looking down on him but understands the need for mercy.

We understand why you are feeling shock, disbelief and deep hurt. To care for someone and then realize he may have been a player and never serious about you is a wound to the heart. Please know God sees this pain and is close to you. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. Even this painful experience He can redeem for your good as you trust Him. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. We encourage you to lean fully on Him in this processing and not on your own understanding. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find salvation and healing. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to bring this hurt and this repentance directly to God in the name of Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and that through faith in Him you are forgiven, cleansed and made new.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You on behalf of our sister. We thank You for her repentant heart and for the courage to end what was not Your will. We ask You to forgive her for her rebellion as she has confessed it, to cleanse her and to restore her fully. Lord, heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds. Comfort her in this shock and disbelief, give her Your peace that surpasses understanding, and help her to process this hurt in Your truth and not in bitterness. Guard her heart from returning to what You have called her out of and give her strength to walk in purity and obedience. We also lift up this young man to You. You know the childhood trauma and the brokenness that has shaped him. We ask that You would set him free from playing with the hearts of others, convict him of sin, heal his wounds and bring him to repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ. Help our sister to forgive as You have forgiven her and to release this pain to You. Prepare her, in Your timing, for a godly marriage to a faithful believing husband if it is Your will, a relationship that honors You and is centered on Christ. Lead her steps and make her path straight. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to remain in close fellowship with God through His Word and prayer and with mature believers who can support you. Guard your heart, seek accountability, and in any future courtship look intentionally for a spouse who is a committed follower of Christ, with marriage as the clear goal that honors God. God is able to restore the years and to make you whole again as you walk faithfully with Him.

Thank you for trusting us with this. We hear how heavy and confusing this feels, caring deeply for someone and then seeing in hindsight that he may not have cared in the same way. That kind of shock and disbelief hurts deeply, and it makes sense you are still processing it.

One thing that has helped others in this kind of hurt is recognizing that choosing to release resentment is not the same as feeling settled right away. You can decide you do not want bitterness to take root and still need time for the ache, anger and sadness to ease. Healing often comes gradually, especially when you have acted with compassion toward him even while you are hurting, as you are doing.

It can help to not walk through these weeks alone. Consider asking one steady, mature believer you trust to check in with you weekly, someone who will listen without pushing you to rush past the grief and who can help you keep healthy boundaries around contact and social media while you heal.

Father, we lift our sister to You. Thank You for her honest heart and her willingness to step away from what she knew was not Your best. Comfort her in this grief, steady her when thoughts spin, and give her wisdom for each next step. Heal the tender places and restore her sense of dignity and worth in You. We also pray for this young man, that You would bring healing where there has been wounding and set him free from using others. Lead both of them closer to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your open and honest confession is itself a mercy from God, for it shows that the Spirit has been at work to bring you out from a path you knew to be rebellious and outside His will. To have entered a relationship unequally yoked, and then to feel the sharp pain of discovering that the affection you gave was not returned in truth, is a double wound, and it is no wonder that your heart is sore, incredulous and shocked. Yet even in this sorrow there is cause to give thanks that the yoke has been broken, for you thought the yoke of Christ was hard when it said, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, but you have found how much harder is the yoke of our own choosing.

Hear then the whisper that must drive away despair. There is forgiveness. There is forgiveness with God, and that not as a doubtful hope but as a matter of certainty. It is a divine forgiveness, for He Himself says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. Were all men to hiss at you, their forgiveness would not be needed to enter heaven, for the forgiveness that matters is His. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that God speaks as if surprised that such sins should be remitted, and a complete forgiveness, as when a creditor destroys the tally and nails the record of debt to the Cross. This sentence contains no conditions for the repenting and believing sinner who looks to Christ. Do as Luther did when his brother monk said to him, Believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself. The gifts and calling of God are without repentance, He never plays fast and loose with men. What He forgives, He forgives absolutely, irreversibly, eternally, and He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is continuous through Jesus Christ His Son.

And with this forgiveness comes healing, for healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee, and pardon and healing were one. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, not only in His fruit but in the very leaves of the tree, for the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing, to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. You need not say, I am sick, when the Lord comes to dwell with you, for the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings.

I will pray for you, and with you.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, we thank Thee that this soul has turned from rebellion to confess her sin. Grant her now to know present forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ, who died the Just for the unjust to bring us to God. Let her hear Thy absolute promise of oblivion to all her debt, and let that assurance heal her wounded heart. Lift from her the grim weight of shock and grief, and apply Thy healing leaves to every sore place, that she may walk in newness of life and in joyful obedience to Thy yoke, which is easy and light.

We pray also for the man who has played with hearts, as we all have done in our own way and time. We do not ask Thee to bless the way of sin, but to set free those who are held in it. Bring him, and all who live so, to see their need of Christ, to repent and to be made whole. Where childhood trauma and sin have twisted the heart, show Thy power to forgive and to heal, that he may no longer trifle with the affections of others but be found in Christ, forgiven and made new. Save him, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved.

May the Lord keep you close to His Word, guard your heart in purity, and teach you to find all your comfort in Him who will never deceive nor forsake you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We thank you for sharing this so honestly before the Lord and before his people. To see that a relationship was outside of God's will, to name the rebellion that led into it, and then to step away from it is painful but it is also obedience, and God honors a heart that turns back to him. Scripture calls us not to be unequally yoked and to keep the gift of intimacy within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, not because God withholds good but because he protects us, and your decision to end this relationship aligns with that wisdom.

It is understandable that you feel shock, disbelief and deep hurt. To care for someone sincerely and then to realize he may not have been sincere in return is a wound like betrayal. Jesus himself knew that sting. He was betrayed by one close to him, with a kiss, and he did not look away from the pain of it. He sees your sorrow and he is near to the brokenhearted. He is not distant from this hurt and he is able to heal it.

You also show grace in how you speak about this man, recognizing that trauma may have shaped him while not excusing sin. That humility is Christlike. People who play with the hearts of others do need to be set free, but that freedom does not come from excusing the pattern. It comes through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone, who forgives and makes new. The same is true for each of us. As you said, you have also needed that mercy, and God gives it freely when we confess our sins to him.

We will pray for you, and we pray with you now.

Father, we thank you for your mercy through Jesus Christ, who alone saves. Thank you that when we confess our sin you are faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us. We thank you for this sister who has turned from what she knew was not your will. Heal her heart where it has been wounded and where trust has been broken. Comfort her in the shock and grief she feels, and replace confusion with your peace and clarity. Guard her heart and mind in Christ, give her wise counsel and community around her as she processes this, and help her to walk in purity and hope for the future you have for her. Draw her deeper into your love, which is patient and kind and never fails.

We also pray for this man. Have mercy on him. Where there is trauma and brokenness, bring true healing that only you can give. Where there is sin in playing with the hearts of others, bring conviction and repentance and set him free from that way of living through new life in Jesus. We do not ask you to bless what is outside your will, but we ask you to save, to transform, and to make each heart whole and holy before you.

Teach us all to learn from what has happened, to be on guard and to love well, and to trust that your ways are good. Restore what has been broken and make us faithful to you. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Thank you for sharing so honestly and with such humility. It takes courage to admit that you knew a relationship was outside God's will and entered it anyway, and even more courage to step away from it in obedience. That decision to break it off, painful as it is, was the right one and God honors a heart that turns back to Him.

Scripture warns us not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers, asking what fellowship righteousness can have with unrighteousness and what communion light can have with darkness. That warning is not limited to marriage. Any close yoke where you are bound together with someone who does not share your faith puts you in an unequal position. You will not be pulling in the same direction or living by the same standard. What grieves your conscience may not grieve theirs at all. Lying, bending the truth, or being unfaithful may not trouble someone who does not walk with the Lord, but it will trouble you, and that difference creates constant strain. Many people think their situation is the exception, that their love is strong enough to overcome that deep difference, but righteousness and unrighteousness are like oil and water. They do not truly mix.

You are experiencing that reality now. The shock and disbelief and hurt you feel at discovering he was not serious and may have been playing with your heart is understandable. When you care deeply for someone, it is painful to realize the care was not returned in the same way. It is also right to recognize that patterns like that often have deep roots, including childhood wounds, and to pray for deliverance rather than looking down on the person. Your compassion in that, especially as someone who acknowledges your own past in this area, reflects the grace God has shown you.

God invites those who have been in that unequal place to come out and be separate, and He promises to receive us and to be a Father to us. Your step of separation opens the way for that closer fellowship with Him again.

Healing from a hurt like this is also part of His work. The Bible shows that Jesus healed in different ways. Sometimes healing was immediate, sometimes it was gradual, sometimes with a touch and sometimes with a word. That is true not only for the body but for the heart and mind. God has built healing processes into us, and every true healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or unfolds over time. He can heal the wounds and scars left in your emotions and thoughts, and He is faithful to do that as you walk with Him, bring your pain honestly to Him in prayer, stay in His Word, and stay close to other believers who will support you.

I will pray for you, that God will comfort you in this hurt, quiet the shock and confusion, and bring deep and lasting healing to your heart. I pray He will renew your mind, restore your peace, and strengthen you to walk in obedience going forward, guarding your heart and waiting for His best. I also join you in praying for this young man and for others who treat hearts carelessly, that God would set them free from that way of living, bring them to see their need for Jesus, and transform them by His grace. And I pray that He would continue His gracious work in you, reminding you daily how fully you are loved and received as His daughter.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer.

We have been praying for you as you process the hurt and shock from this relationship. We thank you for your honesty in sharing that you knew this relationship was unequally yoked and outside of Gods will and that you chose to enter it in rebellion, and we praise God for your willingness to step away from it. We have been lifting you up for healing from the pain of caring deeply for someone who was not serious about you and who may have been playing with your heart. We understand how difficult it must be to work through the disbelief and heartbreak you described.

We have also been praying as you requested for those who play with others hearts, including this young man, that they would be set free from that way of living, and we were moved by your compassion and humility in acknowledging the influences of deep childhood trauma on his behavior and in remembering that you once lived that way yourself and do not look down on anyone. We find comfort in Psalm 147:3 that He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds and in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us.

If your request has been answered and the Lord has brought you peace, comfort, and healing as you seek Him, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still struggling to process this hurt and need continued healing and grace, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

We pray that the Lord will guard your heart, renew your mind, and draw you closer to Himself in this season, and that He will bring complete freedom and restoration to all who struggle with using others. We pray in Jesus Name.
