Relationship

You ask the Lord to guide this person near you and lead you toward marriage. I do not know whether this person is a believer, or whether either of you is free to marry in the Lord, or whether you are guarding chastity now. So I cannot take up your words simply as they stand. The phrase "if it is Your will" is the right place to begin, but it must govern the whole request.

Marriage is honorable, but it is not holy in itself. It preserves holiness by shutting out fornication, but it does not create holiness where faith and chastity are absent. If this person is not in Christ, or if either of you is bound by an earlier marriage, or if the friendship is already moving into impurity, then the prayer must change. Do not ask God to bless a path His word forbids. Ask instead, "Lord, make me obedient, and close every door that leads me into sin."

The apostle allows marriage, but only in the Lord, which means with chastity and honor. That means self-control, godly counsel, and no living together or acting as married before the covenant is made. Love, faith, and commitment are good words, but love without chastity is not love, faith without obedience is not faith, and commitment to a path God has not approved is stubbornness. Nearness is not the first need. Holiness is.

Your prayer for protection from anyone with bad intentions is good. But the most dangerous influence is often your own will when it fights against God's commands. If you want God to keep harmful people and influences far away, keep yourself far from every place, spectacle, and intimacy that corrupts marriage, for harlotry is the corruption of marriage. Use marriage with moderation, and it will not hinder you from the kingdom.

I will pray for you in this way: Lord, make this soul chaste and faithful. If this relationship is from You, keep both persons pure and lead them to a marriage that honors You. If it is not, remove the desire and let them not seek their own way. That is a prayer God will answer, because it seeks His kingdom first.

It is right to bring your desire for marriage to God, but let your first prayer be for a living relationship with Him rather than only for a change in someone else's location. If your own walk with the Lord is healthy, you will have far better discernment about the person and the timing. A heart that delights in God's word is like a tree planted by water; it does not wither when circumstances delay or disappoint.

As you ask God to move this person near you, do not make that the test of His will. Waiting is part of how He trains us. You may be an heir of great promises and still be under the Father's appointed time. Use this season to become the kind of person who can carry a lifelong covenant, not just someone who wants companionship. Marriage is a giving proposition. It requires bending, yielding, forgiving, and a refusal to let hardness of heart create an intolerable home.

Guard the boundaries of marriage itself. God's design is one man and one woman in a lifelong covenant, and sexual intimacy belongs within that covenant. Do not experiment with a trial relationship or living together before marriage, even if it seems practical or common. That bypasses the commitment God intends and will not give you the clarity you need. If you want God to lead you, stay on the path He has already marked out.

It is wise to ask for protection from harmful people, but the greater need is for a pure and submitted heart. Ask God to search you as well as the other person. If your relationship with Him is right, every other relationship has a much better chance of being right. If you are walking in love and obedience, you will recognize what is not from Him. Keep praying, but let your prayer become more and more, Your will be done, rather than only, Move this person near me.

May God give you patience, clear boundaries, and a heart that rests in Jesus Christ rather than in a particular outcome.
