Beloved of All
Please give me guidance to seek the Lord's will with this almost 4 mos relationship. I have a lot of confusion and lack of clarity. He has inner words that he will not share with me. He gets upset if I mention his ex-wife or children. Yet at times, he will seek my advice. We are both older and have a lot of life experience. I have found myself backtracking into some old habits (horoscopes, etc.) to get clarity. I have also done other things that I am not proud of for the sake of the union. I need to know if God wants me to continue with this union and grow and learn together. I like and am physically attracted to this man, but will follow God's plan for this relationship.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, seeking the Lord’s wisdom and clarity for this season of your life. The confusion and lack of direction you feel are not from God, for He is not the author of disorder but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33). Let us first address the areas where the enemy has sought to cloud your judgment and lead you away from the firm foundation of Christ.

You mentioned turning to horoscopes and other old habits for clarity. Scripture is clear that these practices are detestable to the Lord (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). The enemy uses such things to draw us away from trusting in God’s sovereignty and perfect will. We must rebuke this deception in the name of Jesus and declare that your trust is in the Lord alone. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6). Confess this sin before the Lord, repent, and ask Him to cleanse your heart and renew your mind. He is faithful and just to forgive and restore you (1 John 1:9).

You also shared that you have done things you are not proud of for the sake of this union. If these actions involve compromise in areas of purity or integrity, we must address them with godly sorrow. The Bible warns us to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18) and to keep our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). If there has been any form of fornication or emotional intimacy that dishonors God, we urge you to repent and seek the Lord’s forgiveness. He is gracious and will lead you into righteousness if you surrender these areas to Him. "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Now, let us turn to the relationship itself. The fact that this man is unwilling to share his inner thoughts with you, becomes upset when you mention his ex-wife or children, and yet seeks your advice at times, reveals a lack of transparency and emotional maturity. A godly marriage is built on open communication, trust, and mutual respect (Ephesians 4:25-29). The Bible tells us, "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17), but this can only happen when both parties are willing to be vulnerable and honest with one another. His unwillingness to discuss his past or his children may indicate unresolved issues or a heart that is not fully surrendered to the Lord. We must pray for his healing and for the Lord to soften his heart to godly counsel.

You also mentioned that you are both older with much life experience. While this can be a blessing, it can also mean that patterns of behavior are deeply ingrained. The Lord may be calling you to seek His will above your own desires, even if it means walking away from this relationship. "Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). If this man is not the one God has for you, the Lord will provide clarity and peace as you surrender this relationship to Him.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, seeking Your wisdom and guidance for our sister. Lord, You see her heart and her desire to follow Your will. We ask that You would remove every veil of confusion and deception that the enemy has placed over her mind. Cleanse her heart from any ungodly habits or compromises, and restore her to a place of purity and trust in You alone.

Father, we lift up this relationship to You. We ask that You would reveal Your will with clarity. If this man is not the one You have for her, give her the strength to walk away and the peace that surpasses all understanding. If he is the one, soften his heart, Lord, and bring healing to any areas of brokenness. Help him to be transparent, to seek godly counsel, and to honor You in this relationship.

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, confusion, or compromise in this situation. We declare that Your perfect peace will guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Give her the courage to stand on Your Word and to trust in Your timing. May she find her delight in You alone, knowing that You will fulfill the desires of her heart as she seeks You first.

We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can come to You. Thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for hearing our prayer. Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to spend time in the Lord’s presence, seeking His face and His will. Fast from distractions, including social media, horoscopes, or anything that does not align with God’s Word. Ask the Lord to speak to you clearly through His Word and through godly counsel. "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable.

Remember, the Lord is your Good Shepherd, and He will lead you beside still waters (Psalm 23:2). Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps. If this relationship is not of Him, He has someone far better in store for you—a man after God’s own heart who will love you as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He will never lead you astray.

We're here with you, sister, as you navigate this relationship. We understand the confusion and uncertainty you're feeling, and we want you to know that God sees your heart and desires for clarity just as much as you do.

First, let's address the areas where you've been seeking clarity outside of God's will. We know it's easy to turn to things like horoscopes when we're unsure, but remember, God's Word tells us in Jeremiah 10:2, "This is what the Lord says: 'Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the sky, although they are terrified by them.'" Trust that God has a perfect plan for your life, and He wants you to seek Him first in all things.

As for the things you've done that you're not proud of, we encourage you to confess these to God and ask for His forgiveness. He is faithful to forgive and cleanse you, as it says in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Also, be open with this man about your desire to follow God's ways and ask for his understanding and support in this area.

Now, let's talk about the relationship itself. It's important to have open and honest communication in any relationship, especially one that you're considering for the long term. If this man is unwilling to share his inner thoughts or discuss his past, it might indicate that there are some unresolved issues he needs to work through. Pray for him, that God would soften his heart and help him to be more transparent and vulnerable with you.

Remember, God has a plan for your life, and He wants the best for you. As it says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Trust that He will guide you, even if it means walking away from this relationship.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, asking for clarity and wisdom for our sister. Lord, You see her heart and her desire to follow Your will. We ask that You would remove any confusion or deception and help her to trust in You alone. We lift up this relationship to You, Lord. If this man is not the one You have for her, give her the strength to walk away and the peace that surpasses all understanding. If he is the one, soften his heart, Lord, and bring healing to any areas of brokenness. Help him to be transparent, to seek godly counsel, and to honor You in this relationship. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Sister, keep seeking God's face and His will. Spend time in His presence, and ask Him to speak to you clearly through His Word and godly counsel. Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. Trust that the Lord is your Good Shepherd, and He will lead you beside still waters. If this relationship is not of Him, He has someone far better in store for you - a man after God's own heart who will love you as Christ loves the church. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith. He will never lead you astray.
